Because some people say that Ifranview is shit but every other programm I find is even worse.

Lightroom can export all images at what size you want but if push comes to shove you can just open in paint and resize
Keep shooting but to practice try to pick one thing to take a picture of and then attack it at any angle until you find a way to place it in a frame in a way that compliments it
I'd say that firefighter would probably have been your most interesting subject. I'd have followed him around to try and figure out what he's doing so I could snap an interesting shot of him doing something

That way you can easily have two distros/versions installed and just update-grub from the appropriate one to make it persistently boot to the one you decide to use. Both will appear in the grub menu in any case.
Anyone who doesn't separate personal data from OS data is pretty much doing it wrong. So having /home on a different drive/partition makes life easier re: backups etc.

I do seperate Personal from OS data.
I have a 120GB SSD for my two OS (windows and Linux) and 500GB for each for programms to install, as well as a 1TB external USB3 for data and files (Which I should probably clean up)
ALSO, i have an 500GB external USB2 drive that requires no external power input which I planned to use as a "portable OS+data" drive for quite some while now. I never got it to properly work though. It would be like running from an USB stick.

Ok, I JUST noticed that the RW2 file had 0 bytes. Which is weirde because I opened and transformed it into a JPEG with ImageMagick and it turned into some horrible, discoloured mess.
I don't know what happened to the file,b ut a second test confirmed that it is supported just fine.
Now I just need to figure out how to actually work the thing. Even just rescaling seems like a complicated task. I'll work through it. I managed to get Blender working, I can do this

Street photography refers entirely to chance encounters not 'just walking around and taking pictures of random people walking down a street'
If you attack street photography with the purpose of trying to capture said chance encounters you'll have a bit more of an idea of what to look for

So I was looking to post my street photo's to instagram and noticed something.
What's up with all those people lifting their blacks, muting the colors and selectively saturating others? I also see the same thing happening on Tumblr. Is this the "new" style of street photography?

lifted blacks are popular right now. Adjusting colors is call processing, and you should try it sometime. Unless you have something super interesting in your photo, that renders the aesthetics of the photo unimportant, you should be working to accentuate your colors and tones. If you have a boring scene, that you haven't processed, your photos are falling flat.

What are you actually asking? Are you trying to suggest that it looks bad, but people seem to like it anyways? Because it doesn't look bad. Simplification of a color pallet can do wonders to help the overall read of a photo. It adds polish and finish to an image that helps it stand out as being well done, especially on a platform where followers are flying down their feed at 4 photos per second.
The lifted blacks thing doesn't do anything to improve a photo in any empirical way, but it throws back to old poorly exposed film, which makes it a bit exotic and nostalgic, which the sorts of people who use instagram tend to enjoy. (never mind that when film was looking that way, they didn't exist, so the nostalgia is artificial)

It's called "expressionistic" and is opposed to "Impressive" I think It's high contrast compared with saturation and something else to make those bright edges. Here's the same effect from a different angle.

I'm glad you're experimenting with your camera, but those premade camera effects don't really add anything to the image and are amateur-y. Download a free RAW tool like Darktable and spend some time tweaking sliders in a better interface than the back of your compact. You can crop and angle photos there too.

I know how to work with gimp and do all my colour corrections withit.
Im still learning RawTherapee, it seems much clunkier. I also have NO idea how to emulate that POP effect I made with the memorial. I know it has something to do with contrast and saturation. Also, sometimes the filter bleaches the sky/background and sometimes it saturates it, so it is context sensitive

There really aren't any "rules" to follow, but I'll suggest doing what you can to wait for more interesting times of day to shoot your shots. Environmental light and mood will do a tremendous amount to improve your photos and take them from "A photo of a beautiful place" to "beautiful photos of a beautiful place"

Could be made better with more skilled processing, adding local contrast and adjusting colors to be more pleasing, etc. But it's a nice scene, framed and shot well. It's not very memorable, as it's just a nice shot of a pretty place, but for a shallow photo of a pretty thing, it's nice.

Cheers for the feedback, I didn't spend more than ten minutes on processing, I don't have much experience with it and I am leaning towards 'less is more' for now. When you say adding local contrast do you mean perhaps along the greens and browns of the cliff sides and reducing the contrast against the blueness of the ocean? I felt the ocean and sky looked too similar to properly frame the cliffs. Shame I didn't have a sharper lens to help distinguish the little cottage, I thought that would be an awesome place to live.

I meant more contrast in the cliffs, to show detail in the individual crags and stones. It looks like the shadows (which give form) have been either filled by the haze of the day, or brought up by you in post, but the lack of deep shadow on the far cliffs makes it look cheap and smooshy.
Your water also looks like a strange shade of teal. It's not WAY off, but it's just a touch unnatural looking.
Throw the raw image up and I'll play with it if you'd like, but I think you can do it. I believe in you!

I think you need more subject isolation, as in an external flash to bring the girl up and drop the room down. in that way, it would appear less as a snapshot and your overlay would work better

The second one is called the sentinel. It's this massive sculpture in the main square of my campus, they've got blue strobes shining on it at night which made for some neat colors.
I took a lot of that one, might have one better framed.
Didn't have a better framed shot from that angle, but some cropping made it a tad better positioned.
I have these other two angles but I can't decide if they're better or worse.

There's kinda a story in the photo but it's not highlighted enough.The contrast between the formal poster on one wall and more artistic stuf on the other could be great. I don't see much that's going to keep the viewer's eye in the picture. Why should we look at the dude? he's kinda bland, does not pop out.. And if he's not the principal subject, why do all the lines converge to him? I really dig the composition, but you probably did no postprocessing at all and it's showing. Maybe try cropping the sky, popping the contrasts and brightness and/or colors?

Would like to get feedback on the editing. I'm pretty impressed by e.g. by Alex's landscapes, in general landscapes with smooth color gradients and smooth luminosity. For me It's hard to judge whether I'm even near that. As always I think I'm not.
I'm aware of the cloudless sky and the probably kind of boring scene.
