Your city seems interesting enough. I'd wager you aren't looking hard enough. Also maybe try during day time, most of these shots are devoid of a subject. Just looking at that photo of the guys sitting inside (which is my favorite by the way) I can see your city has a bit of character. Something like deadpan portraits could be cool, do a series

My city has some nice spots and some nice opportunities for photos - but the light is normally terrible, all diffused greys from the complete cloud cover.

Most of your photos are decent. You just need to work on locations. Taking pictres at night is not really an easy ting to do if your new at street photography. I would sugest going into your cities downtown core and practice.

try your hardest to think like someone that's never been where you are and imagine what they'd find interesting or worth looking at. could also break things down to just shapes and colours and focus on that for photos rather than how interesting something is as a defined thing. immediately the things that come to mind are getting in the middle of the street like a lunatic and getting the two blue light lampposts lined up so it looks like one lamppost with two lights coming from it and get it centred and framed well. there's also those highway exit signs or whatever on the right, maybe that'll look cool with a long exposure with all the lights of passing cars lighting it up with the frame real tight on them.
i'm not in a city, i have to find some shit in nature with sparse homes and farms.

i think that the overcast weather is half of what makes japan easymode, everything is softly lit and well illuminated.
also it's foreign so you get nostalgia from past trips, longing to explore, and different cultural stuff.
maybe if you added japanese tags to your photos they would feel the same about your city.

My city is much the same but is filled with tight streets and tall buildings.
When it's even slightly overcast, you're shooting in the shade all the time, and once the sun goes down you may as well be shooting with no light.

Yeah I know, but this being said grass is always greener on the other side.
The city is not the problem, YOU are the problem. Being used to a place leads to some fucking problems, your eye don't see anything anymore, or you end off being prejudiced against unhabitants or about parts of town.
Get on a bus or a train, and go somewhere else, not necessarily far, it could be a little town near your own, and make your eyes and of course your camera used to see something else.
I think this is useless to force yourself if your city doesn't inspire you anymore, the goal here is not to fucking discust you about photography or street photography or whatever you want ... do something else somewhere else and go back shooting your street to see if you are more inspired than before.
