Sup /p/ give me some protips on photographing the rain/in the rain. Things to look for, sights to capture, helpful tips, gear etc.
>>2786734
To catch falling rain, small aperture, fast shutter, compensate by bumping ISO up. If you're lucky you'll get some sunlight on it too.
>>2786734
shoot rain with a flash.
>>2786741
If you do that you get this shitty confetti looking shit.
If you do use a flash, set it to rear sync, and try to get some constant light on there too.

Aperture has nothing to do with whether or not you capture rain.
>>2787427
It helps catch more rain.
>>2787414
>shitty confetti think
I think that looks pretty sweet desu, but I get it if it's not what you're looking for
>>2787414
M4/3 sensor at ISO 1600 will give you this look easy. No rain or snow required.
>>2787444
Sorry, I know I'm a photography fag, but what's M4/3 in simple words?
>>2787441
It's a good shot, and it's a wedding shot so confetti isn't a bad thing to go for, but it's not what I want from a rain shot. It's not how people expect rain to be, even though rain drops are almost perfectly round.
I've thought about this a lot. Are people's pre-conceptions of rain based on how it appears to them or how it appears in films?

smaller than a 1.5 or 1.6 (ASP-C) sensor, bigger than a phone sensor. Usually around a 2.0 crop factor.
>>2787458
A type of small crop sensor.

More depth of field

>implying drops of rain are that sparse
Do you even live on this planet?
>>2787613
1/1000 if you want a tiny floating crystal balls
1/125 to 1/250 if you want it to look like rain.
I've been searching for good example pics and it's shocking how many people aren't setting their flash to rear-sync.
Are these raindrops going up? Get the fuck out of my face with this shit.
>>2787618
Bro, don't trigger my autism.
You have no idea how hard it was not to use Sonic as the subject on that diagram.
>>2787618
Are you stupid or just retarded?
>>2787458
you have two serious answers about what M4/3 is, but in reality, it was a dumb joke about the high ISO performance about M4/3 sensors, because the stuff in that photo looks like noise.
>>2787621
>it's shocking how many people aren't setting their flash to rear-sync.
I never understood why that wasn't the default sync...well, once it became easy to swap which curtain was synced anyway.
I mean, the vast majority of the time, which curtain doesn't matter, but the vast majority of the time the curtain does matter, it needs to be 2nd curtain.
>>2787626
Neither, I've actually shot in the rain, on multiple occasions.
Have you?
>>2787633
Actually, you're kind of an idiot because you're sitting here pretending that it always rains at the same rate.
>>2787634
Sorry, m8 we talking about rain or drizzle here?
OP said rain. There are various classifications of rain. I assumed rain.
Sorry this topic flared your autism to this degree.
>>2787636
I'm the autist, I don't know if the other poster is having his autism flared.
You can't say the amount of rain is off without knowing the scale and the focal length.
17 in-focus raindrops is a perfectly plausible amount for some situations.
>>2787636
>There are various classifications of rain. I assumed rain.
Do you realize how stupid you are?
>your autism
I'm not the one that's sperging and pretending that rain refers to a certain level of rain that's rigidly defined
What settings should I use if it is literally pissing down as opposed to spitting?
I get the difference between snow and sleet but I am kinda stumped.
I suppose lashing down is a whole different kettle of fish.
>>2787706
How stupid I am for assuming rain = rain?
Bro you need to get outside more and speak to people in real life, it sounds like your social skills have been solely developed by 4chan.
Rain is fucking rain, moron.

HAHAHA...you don't even realize you're arguing against what you said.
>>2787728
What? I refuse to believe people on /p/ are this stupid. Stop trying to troll so hard and making shit up.
Rain, as in steady amounts of falling precipitation.

Never change, /p/

lol, do you even temperate climate?
>>2787746
>I thought you said you were getting a dog?
>I did, that's my dog.
>that's not a dog, that's a dalmatian, when you said dog I assumed it would be a beagle.
>Uh, a dalmatian is a dog.
>No a beagle is a dog.

note the big depth of field and 1/125ish shutter speed.
>>2786734
I find shooting street just as a shower comes on is great. If people aren't expecting rain everyone's facial expression intensifies, people start using whatever they are carrying as makeshift umbrellas etc.
>>2787628
He probably would have got that once he knew it was a small sensor.
>>2787630
I don't get it either. I would be rear-sync all the time if my cheap ttl strobe didn't spaz out.
Just go full Todd Hido be it a rain or a snow.
