This is really exciting. Cinestill has struck a deal with Kodak to let them spool Vision3 film in medium format rolls and sheets. If the campaign reaches 190k in 12 hours, 50D will be available from the very beginning.

This is a big day for medium format film.

>Cinestill has struck a deal with Kodak to let them spool Vision3 film in medium format rolls and sheets
that's not really true from my understanding.

from their faq:
>It is important to note that CineSill is NOT simply "repackaged" motion picture film. We utilize the same advanced technology in Motion Picture emulsion to create a still photography film which is modified for C-41 processing. This amazing material is converted to a different format and suitable for C-41 chemistry. Compared to the original motion picture stock, CineStill 800T C-41 responds with a slightly increased gamma yielding an 800 ISO Tungsten balanced negative, which is optimized for optical and hybrid still photography processes.
>>

I assume it's true, due to this, also from their FAQ:

Q: Is cinestill 120 converted 70mm?

A: CineStill 120 will be manufactured from a large special order material and will not have perforations. We converted and slit down 65mm material for Beta Testing our prototype process. The rolls of film we produced this way are the Beta Test rolls we are giving away before fulfillment of the campaign.
>>

>>2778651
It'll just be a special order of the film with no remjet so they dont have to remove it before packaging.

>falling for the CineStill meme

You've got Ektar, and Portra.
>>
>>2778739

Kektar is too saturated for skin tones and I don't like Portra's colors. Vision3 is a nice middle ground.
>>
>>2778739
>You've got Ektar, and Portra.
This.
Based on all of the cinestill examples I've seen posted, I'll just stick with Ektar and Portra. True c41 products. And cheaper. And 4x5.
>>
>>2778739
>>2778751
Neither of those are tungsten balanced.

The fucking price is ridiculous though: 10-12$.
>>
>>2778795
>The fucking price is ridiculous though: 10-12$.
For Cinestill? They even state it's cheaper RRP when it heads to retail.

Portra and Ektar are cheap as chips in 120 when you buy in bulk (which you probably will if you're not a total pleb).
>>
>>2778797
>Portra and Ektar are cheap as chips in 120 when you buy in bulk
That was the point of my sentence. Compared to cinestill; portra and ektar are cheap even individually.

>Our goal is to make 120 rolls available around the world between $10-12USD (there is no way to perfectly predict the free market, but this is our goal).

Velvia is even cheaper than that. But none of them are tungsten which one of the main points of cinestill.

I wish the 50D was the default option instead of 800T.

I want muh bokeh and that's hard with 800 film and a max shutter speed of 500.
>>
>>2778835
shoot at night
>>
>>2778835
They extended the deadline by two weeks to reach the 50D stretch goal, so you're in luck. Vision3 50D is my favorite all-around film.

Check out these sweet, sweet blue skies and rich colors.
>>
>>2778852
Not always an option. I'm planning on using film mostly for shooting classic car events, and those are usually in the daytime.
>>
>>2778863
You do know this is not daylight film right?
>>
>>2778865
50D is, which is what he wants.
>>
>>2778835
Any reason why you have to shoot it at 1/500?

Also 800T looks nice at EI 500 in daylight.
>>
>>2778867
I see. My mistake.
>>
>>2778641
that photo looked so good i thought it was a promo shot from a new nikon dslr

jeez film is really getting up there in terms of quality
>>
>>2778881
Hasselblad with a shutter that doesn't go over 1/500.

I can't even shoot wide open in daylight with 100 speed film unless I use an ND. 800 would force me to stop down to f/22 or thereabouts, which means losing that glorious MF DoF.
>>
>>2778862
This looks terrible. It looks like an unedited digital photo.
>>
>>2778914
I fucking love shooting 1/500th at f16-f22. I miss my Fuji 800Z so much! looking forward to a potentially new 800 film being on the market.

I've actually bulk rolled my own 5201 50D and 5219 500T in 35mm before. Just a quick test.

500T offered nothing over Portra 400 and was grainier, and if you wanted more speed there's Portra 800, or Natura 1600.

5201 50D is a stop slower than Ektar, which might be useful for same, more normal saturation and contrast with wide dynamic range and very fine grain, I'd pick Ektar for landscapes, street, markets, most situations except portraits. But then I've got Portra 160, Pro 160NS, Portra 400, even Provia for that.
>>
>>2778905
What on earth would make you think that they didn't have that resolution and clarity before?
120/220 roll film has always been this way.

Cinestill is a meme on the level of Lomography.

It just attracts talentless hipsters who need some sort of gimmick (like cross processing) to try to inject some interest into their ridiculously crap 'shot from the hip' snapshits.

If the only thing interesting about your image is that it was shot on mp film then it's a shit photograph.
>>
better than portra.

That's not why I shoot it. I like the colors and the dynamic range is huge. It's hardly a meme at all. Being able to shoot stills on Vision film is cool.
>>
>>2779207
not a great photo to pair with this post anon,

it's all purple, the water's reflections are blown to heaven above, and the trees are colour-uncorrected black in the middle of a sunny day. that isn't good colour or huge dynamic range in my opinion.

you could have told me this was a low-end digital point and shoot and i wouldn't have questioned it.
>>
>>2779207

holy fuck thats 2007 p&s tier

Yes, even 35mm wasn't bad when used appropriately. It's really annoying that the new generation of film users assume that all the flaws that people worked so hard to eliminate are defining attributes of the medium.
>>
>>2779207
Looks like shit, only interesting thing about it is it was shot on mp film. Shit photograph. Also your image shows a lack of dynamic range and terrible colour.

Kodak Vision thread?

this is 200T. post-washed, looks a lot better than previous tests, maybe because distilled water was used this time.
