Timbered land without any utilities in places like northern Minnesota can be fairly cheap in certain areas. Around $1,000 dollars an acre.
Snag a 20-30 acre parcel and build your cabin on it. Drill a well and shit in a bucket.

Depends entirely on the area. Some places are ludicrously expensive, some places are dirt cheap.
My family has a cabin on three acres on a lake in Ontario, and or yearly property tax is like $150. But the people who have houses in residential areas in the nearest big town pay like $8k for a quarter acre.
