I guess. Depends on the box too. The standard MTB for March didn't have a regular crank, just that Plopper. Then a chatter bait, a couple soft baits, and those hooks. But the February Pro box had a couple shallow-medium divers. It's all cool stuff but main reason I dobnt want to stay on it is because of the 10% of the stuff they send that I will never use. With that pro box, the flukes they sent me are huge. They are probably better suited for musky fishing or if you have a lake with nothing but 5lb+ bass. Also that goody Booyah rig with the blades. I tried casting that and it is definitely more of a trolling rig.
I'm always down with more tackle, even if I may only use it once a year. But my tackle bag is already overflowing and I don't need more stuff that isn't really worth opening. I would rather just go buy another X-Rap and Mepps in another color.
I need to take an updated pic of my bag and all the soft plastics and cranks and shit I have now. Plus I have another 5 lures coming from Cabela's right now and that MTB Pro in a few weeks.

And I've had mixed experiences with the stren braid, on my spinning reel it's fucking great, casts like a dream, nice and thin, I like the white color,
Never had any issues , have had the bail slam shut and it didn't break, I tried it on my cheap memecaster and had 4 snaps in one day ( though I really do think that there's some sharp think on the memecaster that was weakining it, I got mine on sale for dirt cheap so I'd give it a shot
Im very happy with it and think the issues with memecaster was an error on the rod/reels part not the line

It's easy. I have the best luck at dusk. Toss near weed beds and cover. They will eat anything, especially early morning and later in the afternoon when they are feeding.
If you can see them jumping near the top, throw a popper on and have fun.

For LMB on artificials, NOTHING tops soft plastics. Deep in my heart I'd love for it not to be true, but it is. Look up Texas, Carolina, and Wacky rigs, as well as how to rig a fluke. All that shit will put bass into your hands. If you master nothing else, master soft plastic fishing and you need fear no bass. The best colors for me have been June bug, watermelon red and silver shad for fluke baits.
For other artificials, the classic Rapala floater is deadly, as are lipless crankbaits like the Rat-L-Trap, topwater poppers like the Rebel Pop-R or Hula Popper and plain white spinnerbaits.
With just those few baits, you'll be able to catch bass most any time of the year.

Went out for trout for the first time today. they stock a lake near me so i figured why not. The kicked, my, ass.
Trout busting the surface everywhere, only managed this one after a few hours. Was using a mepps aglia #2 with 6# mono.
Any advice for fishing stocked trout? The dudes with fly rods killed it, and two guys fishing with bobbers did really well too. Im not all that into fly fishing, so any advice would help

If you are looking at Ugly Stik price ranges, I have finally been trying some different options and have not been disappointed. I own 3 Ugly Stiks and recently have wanted something a little different. Ugly Stiks are durable and all, but the action doesn't seem the best.
I had that exact reel on the Cardinal SX rod until I broke it the other day. It was a nice rod for quite a few years. Grabbed that Fenwick Eagle for $60 and I'm definitely not disappointed in it. I was also looking at a Shimano Sellus for around $50 and those were nice, the grips and reel seat design were awesome and they had a bunch to choose from but the action was nice on all of them. That Berkley Lightning Rod Shock I bought maybe 6 months ago has been really sturdy as well. The Lightning Rods run around $40 for the regular one or $50 for the Shock, but Walmart sells the Shock for $40 so if I buy another, I will make Bass Pro match their price.
Aside from those, you can always get a decent store brand rod for a good price. Bass Pro Graphite Series run $40 all day and they always have a nice selection so you can find whatever size and action you want. Otherwise Bass Pro Bionic Blade rods have been on clearance for the past couple months since they redesigned them and you may still be able to grab one for around $50 when they normally run $80. I know Gander Mountain has had lots of sales on their store brand rods as well.

That's where I would break out a chartruese spinner with some big silver or gold blades. If the bass are jumping near the top, something loud up there would probably work. Alternatively, jet black baits are good in water like that since the black stands out really well in the murky water.
I think today is the first day I didn't have fun fishing. Hooked 5 fish, and lost them all. Broke/bent 4 hooks. A group of kids maybe 13-15 years old came after I'd been there for awhile and were being noisy and shit. I went to change my lure and after I tied it on one of the kids was standing literally right where I was tossing my lure. Then another kid was fishing sorta close to me, and he ended up throwing a rapala into my back, putting a hole in my jacket. He seemed genuinely sorry, so I didn't get mad or anything. I think they're alright kids, I'm glad they're fishing n stuff, but they had no etiquette.

I feel ya on the swimbait deal. Best bet I've had is trying to let them eat it a little first and then setting it. But that only works if you feel a nibble first. Otherwise if they bite while you're swimming it, you just gotta hope you hooked them well.

Fish for something other than trout or wait until the hatch ends. When one source of food is much more abundant than others, such as during a hatch, trout of all sizes feed on it to the point of exclusion so unless you have a lure shaped and sized like whatever they're currently sipping of the water you're shit out of luck.

nymphs are around all the time. nymphing also isn't just limited to imitating nymphs, but also eggs, worms, emerging hatching insects [emergers] among other things. Basically nymphing is a style, but you need moving water to do it effectively. In still-water you want to mostly rely on streamers, and skating dry flies when the fish are feeding on the surface.

I had the same issue turns out it was because I wasn't keeping my elbow at my ribs.
I would put 6wt float line on the 5/6 and put 8wt sink on the 8wt, fish streamers with the 8wt and nymphs, dries, smaller streamers on the 5/6
The 8wt is nice for casting large streamers for big fishes.
I'm by no means an expert but that's personally what I would do.

A well-built (this important) aluminum skiff that's been even crudely maintained is basically a fucking tank; buying one used is fine and depending on how large it is and how strong you are you can launch and retrieve it by hand out of a pickup.

You know how the boat in your pic has a V-shaped bow and hull on the bottom?
A jonboat doesn't have that. It has a flat bottomed hull.
They're great for fishing shallows and marshes because they have a very low draft; you don't get stuck in the mud nearly as bad. People also use them to hunt ducks out of them, because they don't rock as much as a V-hull.
The tradeoff comes in rough water. They are not good in rough seas or bad weather.

When you're fishing marshes and shallow areas, the flat bottom means you don't hang up on the shore or the bottom nearly as much or as badly. So it's useful for basically all fishing in the Southern US.
You spend a lot more time fishing and a lot less time outside the boat trying to lift it up off of the weeds while waist deep in muddy, gator-infested awfulness. Like I said before, it's not nearly as good for big water or rough seas, but where the marshes never end and the rivers are shallow, it's exactly what you want.

nail knot from fly line to tippet, then surgeons knot from leader to tippet, use the tippet material tag line of the surgeons knot to run a dry fly, or another nymph. if using a streamer then do not use a tag line for the surgeons knot.
this lets you cut the tippet when changing out flies, instead of the leader. you will only cut the surgeons knot if adding a tag line to it, or attaching a new tippet.
For the nail knot you can do a few things. I'll use a red mono that is slightly thinker than the starting diameter of the tapered leader, usually about 3 inches of it nail knotted to the fly line, with a perfection loop at the leader end so that you can swap leaders super easy, and not have to tie a nail knot each time you want to swap out the leader.
this also acts as a strike indicator if you choose to nymph without a bobber.

It was mostly little bluegill, largemouth, carp, and maybe a channel cat or bullhead. Tossed out half a bluegill on a big hook and caught a bowfin in this garbage pond. It was pretty big too and we couldn't figure out what it was at first. Still have never caught another one.

Yeah, it's amazing how little maint people do on their trailers considering the $ spent on the boat. I don't think the bearings on mine were greased until I got it. I think the definition of a WB differs from place to place? In my neck of the woods it's considered to imitate a leech, and one with a bead of varying color imitates a leech sucking on an egg; where-as some around here fish larger ones as streamers, imitating elvers, and other small baitfish.
I think the beauty of the WB is it's utter versatility, you can fish small ones on a nymph rig, drifting them, you can swing them to imitate a leech, or retrieve/jig to imitate baitfish.

I always liked 8lb on my medium rods when I ran mono because it gives you that little extra security when you snag some weeds or hit that random catfish or carp. But you can land anything on light line as long as you tire them out and are close to the water. If he's tossing largemouth bass sized lures, the casting difference befween the #6 and #8 won't be much. But if he wants to use 1/8oz lures sometimes, I would do the #6.

He got a bluegill and I got a few nibbled but he was hoping for more. I was stoked he got something. He had a decent new Shimano Sedona/Sellus combo that was like halfway spooled with 12lb and still had the security tag on it. Then he had a shoe box with a couple bags of Zoom and a Rapala in it. I cut the security tag off, gave him a Rooster tail, and told him we gotta spool more line on that reel and get him a tackle bag.
At least he has a nice rod and reel to start out with. He said he got it on sale at Dick's for like $80.

Broke out the fly rod and caught my first fish in over 5 years on a chartreuse popper
It was a dink bluegill and I took no pics, but it was tremendously gratifying and made my day. I may be a complete failure at most things, but not everything.

I also now know that my fly casting technique has deteriorated to complete shit and the 15+mph crosswinds didn't help either. At the end I wondered why my leader looked short and saw that 3/4 of it had become a giant wind knot. That and the clock signaled it was time to leave, but I shall return.

I have had really good luck with the Gulp curly tail minnows. The freshwater selection is limited, but the saltwater in the blue bags are the exact same thing and they have more colors in the 3"-4" range which is nice.
