I got it for 90 Euros in great quality, only a broken buckle and barely any fade on camo. DESU, It's really comfortable and fuckton of space for when I need to load my gear for 3 or more days. On shorter trips I use the one of the other two bags.

I got this guy. His name is Hudson. Made by 'meru' the house-brand of german outdoor-suplier Globetrotter. Im pretty happy with it, has a nice shape and all my stuff fits inside it.
I always try to take less stuff with me but for the bigger trips I always end up needing a 70 l bag.

>hiking with glass and bipod on your rifle

Almost as stupid as bringing a long as shit over/under. Do you seriously use this shit often, or is it a once a year thing. How do you even carry your guns, holding them in your hands the entire trip is about as convenient as trying to run a marathon with a 2 liter bottle stuck up your ass.
>>
>>702067
>>702268
I just found a higher res pic. It is a Deuter.
>>
>>702270
I have the same exact pictures without the guns aswell if that'll calm your autism. The reason I included them is becaue of the influx of BOB threads recently.
I haven't slinged the shotgun yet, and yes, hiking with guns are kind of a once a year thing since hunting is pretty restricted where I live.
>>
>>702280
> points out a legitimate, obvious flaw
> must be autistic
>>
>>702289
Easy there champ, ment nothing by it.
I might elaborate on my answer though. The thing is, where I live, bringing a rifle /out/ is only allowed when hunting. Thing is, you can only hunt on land you own or land ju lease. So pretty much the only hunts that'll allow you to camp is grouse hunting and the like. It's common place here to hunt grouse either with over-unders or 22lr scoped and often with bipod. Nothing strange, really.
>>
>>702280
He's not butthurt that you have firearms, he's butthurt that you pack them in a retarded way or carry firearms that are not exactly conducive to long term hikes.

I used to get paid to walk long distances with a backpack and a rifle in my hand and I can tell you that after a few days, that shit gets fucking old. But since you mentioned that it's just a once or twice a year kinda thing due to hunting, I don't really see the issue anymore. I think he just assumed you regularly pack your weapons like that- which indeed would be stupid as hell
>>

There is pic related.
Maxpedition Monsoon Gear Slinger, comes in a variety of colors. Since it's single strap, it's not that big though, so I'd recommend it for dayhikes or shorter hikes if you can fit your overnight gear in it.
It's kind of pricey, too. Real good quality though. Maxpedition has a few other single strap backpacks if I'm not mistaken, check them out.
>>
>>702604
Well it's a medic backpack and it's pretty common for fellow EMS personnel to give each other shit for owning and using job-related equipment. So the phrase "Ricky Rescue" is a common jeer as if to say "rookie rescue" or "someone who is brand new and doesn't understand they don't need extra gear". I just assumed since you had it you were a medic and you'd know what I meant.

Nonetheless, it is an awesome backpack and I am glad to see other people using it outside of it's intended purpose as an airway/trauma backpack.

Was running a long period magnetotelluric survey. Looking at the deep (~60km) geoelectric structure of Tasmania.

All instruments are in the ground at the moment. Will be picking them up and checking data in a week or so. May need to redeploy a few as we're having problems with wombats digging up magnetic sensors and chewing electrode cables. Have developed a passionate hatred for wombats during the course of this survey.

What is the issue with an over/under shotgun?
>>
>>702597
Trekking for days on end with a scoped weapon is kinda iffy in terms of keeping the thing safe and not getting banged around or broken. Generally what I do when I hunt like that is zero my scope, mark my rails with a small dab of whiteout or something, and put the scope in my backpack and carry the rifle, usually with a set of iron sights on it as well, just in case. I don't put the scope on my rifle until I get to my hide. Bipods, IMO, are unnecessary. You can post your weapon against a tree or cross your arms and cradle your rifle or even use the sling as a way to hold the weapon in place when you aim.

However, the way I usually hunt is stalking and for that I take a lever action rifle in .45-70, so using a scope for that kind of round is pretty stupid. I'm a better shot with irons than I am with a scope anyway.
>>
>>703370
For long multiday hunts, an O/U (or any long shotgun really) becomes a gigantic pain in the ass to carry around unless you have a sling.

I admit to never having stuck a 2 liter bottle up my ass, so I will have to take your word for the inconvenience of it.

I do hike and backpack hunt with a scoped rifle about 100 days per year and have no issue with it. Don't use a bipod at all so can't comment on that.

What issues have you encountered hiking with a scoped rifle? What make and model and mounts?

I'll be taking it on the Lone Star Trail here in Texas over my work break next week then again summer 2016 for my PCT hike.

/side note: This thing is a bitch to set down, the hip straps are so rigid and hug so well that when you set it down they topple it over onto it's back, wrong side up. Another note is that this thing has no real outerior pockets besides the mesh and the back on it's top.

How do you plan food for such a long trip? I was thinking of buying ground meat and making a bunch of cheap jerky.
>>
>>705702
Mixes of granola bars, cheese, olive oil (some), peanut butter, oily nuts, other trail foods

I don't like to cook when I'm on a long trail, stove takes too much space and I couldn't care less about hot food.
>>
>>705750

You can cook without a stove. I've never carried a stove. They are the stupidest shit ever and a waste a space. Only white hikers with dreadlocks carry them with their bag of Starbucks coffee. I carry a stainless steel container to keep some small items in and I use it to cook, boil water, etc. I hardly carry food that I need to cook though. I bring smoked meat and carrots to snack on, as well as some apples and oranges. Only time I cook food is when I kill something or catch a fish. Not a fan of granola bars, nuts, or trail foods as they keep my mouth dry and thirsty.

small enough for carry on, big enough to hold anything you might need, and has a cool frame that lets air flow between your back and your bag so you don't get sweaty as fuark (a big plus, especially in Thailand)
>>
>>702688
Had one of these, used it a ton in Afghanistan. Was pretty sad when it got blown the fuck apart in a firefight. They're rugged packs and will hold more than you think- also the hip belt is a fucking godsend considering it's a single strap back. Get it.
>>
>>700565
I own a half-track; I wouldn't use it for light hikes or anything like that(~6lb). Somewhat spacious, the shelf is awesome, and the bladder sleeves hold 3L a piece no problem.

Also, keep in mind that while it's a front-loader, it probably won't fit your tent and sleeping bag inside. So far it's worked well for me as a hunting/bushcraft pack.
>>
>>705815

>>
>>706991
yes, when you buy glass you want to go premium, especially when investing in something high power or variable magnification.

But, You don't need to see your reflection in a squirrels eyes to shoot it; 22lr doesn't have an effective range to warrant such a magnification.

With higher mag you end up with a heavier rifle and less FOV.
less magnification is better when shooting 22lr.

This is just my 2 cents but you do you.

>>
>>707690
I see your point, but I'd actually argue the opposite.
When you hunt larger game with 308 or such, a heart/lung shot will be like hitting a football (granted at a longer range, but still), while shooting small game with a 22lr will require you to place a shot within a the size of a coin.
Now, where I'm from, 22lr is generally only used on birds, pests or sometimes rabbit. So you want good precision.

I have an experienced hunter in the family that I'm learning from, and he argues that you'll want your best optics on your 22 since it's your surgeons tool.

Probably lots of ways to look at it, but this is what I have heard.
