Why are pompano so cute lookin? I feel bad about hurting them.
>>
>>689300
Damn... My whole week is ruined.

I still want to see what you guys got from LTB and MTB. Does anybody know if all the boxes are the same? Like all the Feb MTB Bass Boxes will be exactly the same? Or a random lot for everybody?

Also, anybody get anything good from Bass Pro this week with the Spring Fishing Classic? They had Shimano Saharas on sale for $40 online only and I thought about hopping on one for the hell of it.
>>
>>689304
>all the boxes are the same
That is my understanding. I watched a bunch of the youtube vids opening them and they were on those.
>>
>>689302
I don't care how cute something looks, as long as it's tasty then I have no qualms about killing it, peeling its skin off, dismembering it, and cutting it's muscle tissue up into appropriately sized chunks for cooking.

So.. uh.. how does pompano taste?
>>
>>689304
I was late getting around to ordering my LTB so my first month of three will be March. I did have a couple trips to Wal-Mart, BPS and an online order through Tackle Warehouse. Might clear a spot on the desk and take some pictures.
>>
>>689304
Finally broke down and got my ultralight rig made up this week. Stradic 1000hg paired to a st Croix avid UL
>>
What's the difference between leader and trace line.

Are they essentially the same thing but different materials?
>>
>>689413
Damn, not gonna lie I'm jelly of that setup. I keep thinkin about a nice ultralight setup with 6lb or 8lb braid. If I end up grabbing a Symetre it will probably be for that. Not sure which rod. I really want a St. Croix but can't bring myself to spend $160 on a rod. If I can catch one of their $100 models on sale for 20% off or something, I would totally do it. But good shit like that doesn't go on sale alot.

I would also be down for another Abu rod. Veritas maybe or if I can catch an Ike on sale. I have also heard good things about Fenwick rods and they have some reasonably priced rods. I'll just wait and see what pops up. That's what is nice about needing a rod and reel right this minute. Just be patient and grab a rod on sale at one time and then a reel I like at another. That's how I did that Revo SX and CarbonLite rod. Ended up paying <$200 for a combo that would've been almost $300 at full retail.
>>
>>689304
Last month my boxes came in super early and it was a nice surprise. Looks like they're both making up for it this month because neither is coming in till late in the week. Boo.
>>
>>689498
This is actually the first St Croix rod I've ever gotten. A few of my buddies swear by them and g.loomis, but I could never stand to spend so much money on one. Honestly I've had the best luck with the bass pro xps rods. Can't beat the build quality for the price.
>>
>>689513
Yeah those G. Loomis rods look real nice. I always pick them up at the store and take a look until I see the $400 price tag. Nope.
>>
I think the mailman is cucking me, MTB says "out for delivery" USPS already dropped off my mail for the day...

Oh I only use St. Croix rods, amazing rods, amazing customer service

trailers are nice, even though they are a bit small. the bucktail for this month is interesting. I'm excited to try it out. The shrimp baits will make decent trailers too, and they are soaked in attractant.

You can never have too many circle hooks, so I welcome those.

This months lure is really cool too, it has a quick release so the hooks release from the lure, that will be interesting to try. I'ts nice and heavy too.

The trailers this month where a bit small, but will be good for smaller buck tail trailers on calm days.

Im gonna order a bass box once april comes around, but I feel the inshore stuff is kinda cheesy, especially for us east coast guys. Idk. The shrimp would make a decent teaser. And octopus hooks are always good, but 1/0 is a bit of an interesting size. Maybe good for porgy/sea bass.

Although, I rarely use soft plastics for inshore fishing. Berkeley gulp is all I ever need for bucktail trailers and teasers. At least the bass box im likely to use whatever they put in it.

All the good saltwater stuff is expensive anyway lol. Not likely gonna find it in a box like these.
>>
>>689627
I feel like I dodged a bullet no ordering it, there's nothing but the hooks there that I'd use.
>>
>>689676
I see myself using the bucktails and small tailers for fluke, you could make a few nice little rig with whats in the box
>>
>>689635
Is there any benefit to the hooks popping off? It just seems like a useless gimmick.

maybe less damade to lure when fishing for bluefish, or anything else toothy, it gets the mouth away from the body of the lure keeping paint better it also helps keep sharp teeth sway from the line not a necessity but it can be a bit nice desu, ive used one similar once and actually liked it

Such is living at the end of the continent. Although you are in Maine. Did they ship USPS? For some reason, Priority Mail seems to show up really fast no matter where it is mailed from.

Also, did anybody get the LTB Bass box? I still want to compare and see if the extra $10 for the "Pro" box was worth it and if I should do that for the last 2 months.

im already in on powerpro and mepps desu but i only have one small mepps still i use, a few larger ones i dont really ,

I forgot I'd changed over to the catfish box for MTB until it came in today. Not quite as flashy and fun as the lures that come in the panfish and bass boxes but since I'm pretty new to fishing, anything is welcome and I have hardly any catfish stuff.

I don't have any saltwater so maybe I'll switch to inshore next month.

Here's a stupid question and I suppose I could oogle it but you guys are more fun.
I have a rod that says 6-17#, is that based on string diameter or rod strength?
It was one of my Dad's and he bastardized it w/ an UL reel so I'm thinking running like 8-10# braid

Size 0 is pretty small. A bitch to cast unless you are on really light tackle. I've got a couple of these little 0 and 00 with the single hook and fly.

Bass Pro still had Rooster Tails BOGO with that Spring Classic too.
>>
>>689889
Rod strength. The ratings on the reel are more for line diameter. But they are mere suggestions in the end.

I went to gander mtn and impulse bought some of those manager's special soft baits that were $1.50 each. It's like a disease.
>>
>>689896
Not bad. I would hate to stay on that for more than a month or two tho because you will just end up with a bunch of those dip bait rigs. I like those rigs though, dip bait kills dough bait any day of the week. But I would rather just buy the rigs for a couple bucks when I need em.
>>
>>689901
Seems to me that's the biggest issue here. The appeal of these boxes is getting all kinda of neat new things to try...as well as a steady supply of plastics...but there's just not much they can do with catfish. Maybe some small sample size jars of dough or dip, some other assorted tackle like bobbers and sinkers but...

This was the first month of it. Think I'll stay on one more and switch my LTB to inshore instead.
>>
>>689900
Man Gander Mtn had some nice deals on clearance stuff right after the holidays though. Mepps for $2-$3 all day, PowerBait and plastics for $1-$2. And I got a couple decent Strike King cranks for $2. Those Strike King Red-Eye Shads are bretty nice. Just wish they made that same design a little smaller like a 1/4oz lure.

The Palm Beach one?

Ehh, if I'm around there I guess I could stop by. There's a couple Rapalas I want to grab in the near future, but I kinda want to chill on the crank baits for a minute. Those Yo-Zuris and X-Raps at $10ea add up.

I wonder if those 500 bonus points from Bass Pro will do anything when they finally show up. I'm still a little disappointed in their rewards points. I thought I would get more than $25 when I brought in probably $700 worth of reciepts. I got spoiled by the Dick's rewards that (used to at least) give you $10 for every $100 spent.

A little off-topic, but Kohl's has a dope rewards points system as well. I bought my mom some earrings from them online, I think it was around $450, and I got $120 in rewards dollhairs. Which I turned into Nike clothes.

I've got some of those Storm ones. I like the PowerBait ones like that. I have some ~3" in a firetiger color that work really well.

But I've been using the Gulp! minnows quite a bit lately instead. I picked up a couple packages for around $2ea or something cheap since Dick's was resetting everything.
>>
>>689930
$13 for 50 jig heads, i also like how these sit in the water over normal ones, plus a bit more shine, only downside is the hooks WILL bend if you yank them out with pliers, or have really hard hooksets and i have had them bend and pull from a large trouts mouth , then again i have also caught bass 7 or more lbs with these little hooks https://www.troutmagnet.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_26&products_id=184&zenid=726811f86af91f3973377182f45042d9

>>
>>689939
ofc, they have other sizes in 25 count, i can fling 1/64 oz jigs about 10-15 feet, , throw a splitshot a foort and a half above it and you can go much further
>>
>>689939
I don't think jigs that small are meant to be cast, so much as used from a boat and jigged vertically off the bottom
>>
>>689893
thx, that's what I was thinking so perfect for this setup
>>
>>689944
i can get surprising distance out of a small jig, or throw it under a float
>>
>>689944
Yeah I'm sure. Kinda like those Mini Mites or whatever they are called. You can still get them out there a few feet, but they're mostly just for fucking around by the shore or piers or something with panfish.

I miss crappie. I wish we had them down here. Although those Mayan Cichlids fight harder. Crappie were fun because you could actually get them on a 1/4oz Rapala or Mepps on an ultralight since they have that little bit larger mouth.
>>
>>689946
>tfw the soft plastic bait weighs more than the lure

I have those tiny little Gulp grubs and minnows and throw those on a 1/16oz jig head (they might even be lighter) and those are great because everything will eat them.

Anybody gone full pegboard yet? The more pictures I find the more I'm considering picking up some steel pegboard. Always able to see exactly what you've got. Know when you're running low on something. No more labelling boxes. Or not labelling them and then opening every box in search of particular lures. Just grab what you plan to use, throw it in the tackle bag, and stroll.
>>
>>689701
all i can think is that it gives the fish less leverage on the hook (im sure weve all had it happen, where a lure sits just right in a fish's mouth and it pops the hook loose) but its such a rare occourance that i dont even see it as a problem.

I legit used like 3 different types of large rubber lures, and like those quick set small "pan-fish" rubber lure kits, and that's it. and can pretty much catch anything in my state, if I'm going to the beach to fish, then ill just stop at a bait shop and get a bucket of like two dozen shrimp.

pretty sure I have more types of lead weighs then I do fishing gear. but I also only own one pole and one cast net. so I'm pretty lame. mostly because I use my motorcycle like 98% of the time when fishing solo. maybe its habit now. dunno, but I don't see the need for that many types of worms.

1 8" worm bag. watermelon
2 baby bass bags. that white-ish blueish color, and the green color like in the pic I'm commenting on. the 2nd row down, on the left close to the hard baits.
>>
>>690117
Idk, I had a problem with topwater lures at first. But then I became more patient. Bass always seem to hit poppers during the pause, and I don't set the hook until the fish drags that lure under the water.

Also this.

Can any of you fellow anglers attest to the validity of this?
I recently heard it is taboo to bring a banana on a fishing boat/trip as the oils from the fruit repel the fish.

I've caught fish using a banana so I find that hard to believe.

Anyone have a better suggestion before I pull the trigger?

Any reason your using a teloscopic over a 3-4 piece rod?
>>
>>690357
I honestly don't know..... I've never wanted/needed anything smaller than a 2 piece before, only recently decided to combine fishing with biking/hiking.

Are the 3/4 piece rods superior to telescopic?
>>

You could get away with using a 2 piece if you don't mind keeping it on the outside of your bag

Is it a single long piece, or one of those 2-piece handles? Btw, with bicycle grips we would use Windex. Not sure if that applies in this situation but once it dries, the grips would stay real tight.

I still don't understand the difference. I didn't do much fishing for a few years (from like 12 to 23) and when I got back into it a few years ago, that split handle thing was all over and I had never seen it before.

>>690517
For grips on a dirt bike we usually used hair spray. Spray a lot of excess on the handlebars and then slide the rubber grips on. The hairspray would act as a lubricant when it's still liquid and allow the grip to slide on easily but then it would dry out and act as an adhesive. It's not a very strong adhesive so it was fairly easy to remove worn grips eventually when they needed to be replaced but it was just strong enough to hold them on the handlebars and keep them from sliding or twisting during normal use.

Traditional pegboard is actually pretty inexpensive and not too hard to work with. Lowe's sells 4'x8' sections of brown for about $15 and white-finished for about $18 per section. The only necessary extra material would be some 1" x 2" "Furring Strips" (They run a bit under-sized but Lowe's has 8' lengths of 1"x2" (Actual .75" x 1.5") strips that'll do fine at under $2 per strip). You'll need that to frame-out the backside of the pegboard for support and to space the pegboard away from the wall (so you can actually put pegs in it). You'll also want to make sure the inner strips are spaced so they line up with your wall studs since you'll be driving screws through the pegboard, through those strips, and into the stud. It isn't required but you could also pick up some picture-frame or wall moulding to install around the out-ward facing edges of your pegboard. That'll conceal and help protect the edges, plus make it look a little nicer.

Tool-wise you probably won't need much more than a pencil, measuring tape, drill w/ screw bit or screwdriver, some 1" (pegboard-to-furring strips) and 2.5" (through pegboard & furring strips into stud) drywall screws, a miter-box & saw to cut your furring strips (and optional moulding), and a level. Most big-name hardware stores like Lowe's and Home Depot will make simple cuts in large materials for free so if you know the dimensions you intend to use you can have them cut your pegboard to size for you. I'd advise it as without a jigsaw or tablesaw and high tooth-count blade it can be hard to cut pegboard cleanly.

The biggest pro with traditional pegboard, aside from being inexpensive, is that it can be easily cut to size and shape. In a shop or garage you can easily frame it around windows or cabinets and make it look real clean. The only real cons are that you can't overload a peg or it might elongate or even rip out from the hole, and installing it is a little more labour intensive.

NP bub, I'm gonna drop in on you one of these days....
Just sent the check for my 2 weeks on the lake in Naples.
>>
>>690116
>>690686
Also don't make the same mistake I did. I was looking at offerings from Wall Control and ULINE and then got stupid and impulse-purchased some 16"x16" steel "Project Source" panels from Lowe's instead. Their stand-offs are spaced 12" apart which means they won't line up with standard 16" stud spacing and will only line up with 24" spaced studs if hung two-wide. So now I have to tear down my drywall, install some support blocks, hang new drywall, mud it, repaint...

Okay, not really. If I intended to hang tools, drills and other heavy stuff from it I'd absolutely have to do it proper to accommodate the weight, Since they won't ever be holding anything more than packaged lures and soft plastics these SOBs are going up in studs where they can and getting drywall anchored or toggled-bolted where they can't.

>>690159
>Need
That's a dangerous word. I don't "need" a good deal of what I use but I enjoy using it and can afford it so I do use it. Some stuff I use like small soft plastics are just super easy to burn through. On a really good day I might go through a couple bags of panfish plastics if I get into a bunch of bluegill, crappie, perch or the sort. So it's nice, at least for me, to be able to visually see what my supply is looking like whenever I go to pack my tackle bag. One can only offset the hook or melt the head of a soft plastic so many times before it stops staying on a hook or jig head.

Which reminds me of a neat trick. Years ago I had a cauterizing pen that was perfect for soft plastic repair. If anybody wants to try it make sure they get a reusable one with replaceable tips. Might have to pick up another one for myself now that I've remembered it. I've heard soldering irons can do the trick too but I'm not about to gunk up my only battery-powered iron testing that claim.

Cast control is pretty much just the adjustable spool tension cap opposite the handle side.

Not sure about size compared to the modern baitcasters, looking at pics of people holding the size 50 calcutta online I'd guess that it's slightly larger, but not by much. It is significantly smaller than my 5000 series Abu reels.

Turns out they're slightly different. One I had is a flat lipped one, and the MTB will be a mid-diving.

I'm really glad that they sent everything in more natural colors. Silver and gold cranks are my favorite. I will toss some bright stuff if I think I have a chance of some peacocks (snakeheads and largemouths will go for firetiger stuff too) but I have had my best luck on gold crankbaits.

I have good luck with the bright stuff in low light conditions. When the sun is setting or just coming up. Once it is totally dark, I'll do a spinner or something that makes noise.

I was never huge on bright stuff until moving down here. I was at one of the bait shops and the guy was saying peacocks go crazy for bright stuff so I kinda stocked up. I have had really good luck with that Rapala skitter pop in firetiger. And one of my best cranks lately has been this black and yellow Husky Jerk.

Rapala also has those few UV lures. They have a little blue "UV" sticker on the package. But as far as I have seen, they are only deep diving ones.

Black and yellow Husky Jerk (I think), firetiger Skitter Pop, and the other 3 are the UV Rapalas.

You are such a gearfag it's almost sad.

Of course I just got 2 boxes and picked up a few lures today at kmart
>>
>>691395
MTB trout was normal price $15
The LTB Inshore was 19.99

I know MTB lets you swap whenever you want, you just go into account and flip it to whatever you want on the next shipment.

It's ok. It's my main hobby so whatever. Plus that is years and years worth of stuff. I have owned some of those for probably 15+ years.

I have spent too much money on fishing stuff in the past year or so. I've been trying to chill out on it and avoid Bass Pro. But then you niggas come up in here talking about how great jigs and poppers are and I have to stop by.

Also the fact that I'm in a Dick's at least once a week because of work.

I go into culture shock when I go to BPS. There's just too much shit so I glaze over and don't tend to overdo it.
They always have like $30+ salt lures for under $10 which gets me though.

I need to sort my shit out over the next few weeks. I'm not even sure what I've picked up over the winter, just been storing it.
Thinking about going to New England Boat Show tomorrow. West Marine has a bunch of stuff on deep discount on their site so I'm thinking there will be other vendors selling cheap there as well.

Fuck me...

I haven't been to one of those fishing and outdoors shows since I was a kid. It was always great going to those with $40 and walking out with arms full of bait and lures. I need to keep an eye out for one around here.

The after Christmas clearances got me pretty good too. Especially Gander Mountain. I got a shit ton of lures for around $60 between the two trips there.

And I know what you mean about a few lures you don't remember. There is this one copper colored X-Rap that I like a lot, and have been telling myself I need to pick up a larger size in that same color. I was just putting that LTB shit in my box and noticed I did have the same lure in a larger size. Pic related.

brown brush jig in the mail (pic related) that i got with the other 5 dollars of a 10 dollar prepaid card, which has about 20 cents left on it that i cant get back as cash, which, frankly, dissappoints me that i have to throw that away instead of putting it in a change jar to take to a coin star machine some day and get what few dollars ive accumulated.

i dont know why but i hate those kinds of trebel hooks with the feathers on them on anything but an inline spinner. my popper had one on it, and i cut it off the second i took it out of the packaging. i dont know why i dont like them though
>>
>>691436
I was asking about jigs along with you. I have never really used them and I just picked up a few at Bass Pro last week. Got a couple different trailers as well that I want to try. 25% of Zoom was decent.

>>691444
I like the feathers on those X-Raps. They mimic the tail in the water. I have really good luck with those lures and will always take a dressed Mepps over a plain one.

Btw, you went out today, right? Any luck? The water has to still be real cold. Best bet is probably some of those jigs in deeper water until it warms up a little.
>>
>>691472
No, just casting in the back yard in about 7 inches of snow
Hopefully ill be fishing soon
And Yeah the only time I cast a spinner like a mepps without the skirt thing is when I've ripped off the treble hook and put on a J hook and a soft plastic
Semi related to that last statement
Ever try a kastmaster with a j hook and a soft plastic? It also works using a Swedish pimple as a casting spoon
>>

This is some excellent footage of fish hitting lures underwater. I don't know why the title says that it's about crappie fishing, it's definitely mislabeled.

First time fisher here. What times of day is best for fishin channel catfish? Are their nests out there in the water or by the shore?

If I can only fish them during the day, will I catch any?
>>
>>691491
what j hooks do you use, and what plastics
>>
>>691491
>not having a pool to practice casting in
You're doing it wrong. I should go test some cranks and spinners in my pool lol.

And you mentioned the Kastmaster and J hook idea before and I almost grabbed a couple sizes of them when I was at Dick's because of what you said but ended up wasting my money on more Rapalas. Next time I'm over there I will definitely do it. I used have one or two a really long time ago. Same with the Swedish Pimples. I haven't seen those in the longest time. But I don't fux with spoons and stuff a ton. Another lure I need to give more of a chance.

People say night time is the beat for cats, but the last few channel cats I have gotten have been during the day. Other anon goes fishing for cats all the time during the day and kills it with his punch bait.

Channel and blues can be caught any time day or night, just gotta find where they are. Flatheads are more difficult to catch during the day.

Pic is from when I went out on the boat a few weekends ago with a couple of friends, all channel cats, all caught from around noon to 4:30pm or so.

This is from my most recent catfish trip, all of these were caught from 3:30pm to 7pm. You can't see it but there's an 8.5lb channel underneath the smaller ones that my buddy caught, it happened to be the lake record for that particular lake. We took it to get it officially weighed and he's sent all the paperwork off to the state fish and game dept to get it certified.

cold day in the harbour, caught a few pollock. tide was a bit too low for winter flounder to move into the casco bay flats.

had my bail slam on a cast and lost my MTB bucktail from this month, but here is a photo of the rig I used today, sans the MTB bucktail

>>691517
DUDE kastmaster silver/blue with bucktail, killer for stiper.
>>
>>691513
Usually Swedish pimples come with j hooks and I just eyeball it for a kastmaster with a baitholder hook
For soft plastics just about anything will work. Flukes and curl tails are my go-to, but I've used long worms for Texas rigging, lizards, and even natural baits with success
>>

What's the name of that punch bait again? TJ's or some shit like that?

And dude asking about catfishing, try and avoid those dough ball baits if possible. They don't work nearly as well as the softer dip/punch baits. I've never used the punch bait like other dude uses, but if you get the dip bait, they sell these little rigs with a foam tube and treble hook with a sponge that you use for it. They are cheap enough, def worth grabbing a couple and some dip bait over the shitty dough balls. Anon says he orders his punch bait online.

You really need to start scoping out the little ponds and lakes in commercial and industrial areas. I always have the best luck with bass in places like that.

Back in IL, I had this little lake in an apartment complex for old people. They would call the cops on you for fishing there, but I would still go because I would catch 3lb largemout on almost every damn cast. It was incredible.

I found a real small pond kinda like that around here but the bass are smaller. You would never think to fish there, but I was getting littke 12" largemouth almost every cast.

The only bait I use for channel cats anymore is CJ's Punch Bait. I like the Monster and Shad "flavors" I use 20lb mono line with a slip sinker rig using 3/4oz to 2oz weights depending on water conditions and either a #4 or #6 treble hook. I prefer the #4 hooks but will use #6 hooks if the fish aren't biting aggressively.

It's all about finding the fish. I've fished for 3-4 hours going from spot to spot on a lake only catching 1 or 2 fish the entire time and then anchored up in a new spot and caught 20 fish in 2 hours. My rule is if I've sat at a spot for 20 mins and not caught a fish then I pull anchor and move. That's harder to do if you're fishing from the shore but it's always a good idea to switch spots if you haven't caught anything after a while. Some lakes are much better than others as well, you just have to try out as many places as you can until you find your honey hole.
>>
>>691548
I've never seen one of those except some shitty little pond (about 35 feet across and circular) on a golf course that looks completely empty aside from a little algae and maybe a frog or two
>>
>>691548
I got permission from an old rancher to go fishing on the stock ponds that he had on his ranch. He had 7 ponds on his place, a few pretty good sized ones, but the best one turned out to be a tiny pond, maybe 20ft across and 40ft wide, couldn't have been more than 6 feet deep at the deepest point, just a mudhole really. Between 3 of us we pulled 9 decent sized largemouth bass out of it in 30 minutes or so. The fish must've just been starving to death in there because they were hitting the lures as fast as we could get them in the water.

Pic related is what I'm talking about. This is one of my favorite fishing spots. All those big warehouses are deserted on weekends so I go over there on a Sunday and do my thing.

Unless your regular fishing hole is real good. Do your thing then I guess. I love trying new spots though. There are a couple ponds right down the street from me next to some businesses and I-95 and I can just stop by there for 45min after work if I want and cast around. Never really had a problem since I'm white and just walk around and cast rather than setting up a bucket and try to set up camp like some people do. Although I could totally get away with it on weekends if I really wanted to set out a bunch of rods and break out the folding chair.

fuck the what????!?!!?!
they seriously lock down the lake/pond or just the parking lot?
>>
>>691525
Yeah, it shows you that you really don't have a lot of time to set the hook too. The fish realizes that the lure isn't food and spits that shit out in a hurry.

Google Maps is your friend as well.

There is one bigger lake there, and it looks like it is clear from behind those houses. And it isn't so close to the houses where you will piss them off.

And then there are two smaller ponds to the south that look like you might be able to get to them. Gotta look for stuff like that. I just plead ignorance to "No Tresspassing" signs and try not to hop any tall fences. My one lake I have to walk through some random gate in the fence by these businesses to get to the lake. I go there all the time and have never had an issue. Just smile and wave to people and act like you belong.

you need a kayak.

I would fish what I marked in red for sure.
>>
>>691590
I would not kayak that far out. Maybe down in Biscayne Bay or in the Keys. But straight out into the Atlantic, the Gulfstream would pull me up to like Jacksonville before I knew it. Plus from what I hear, those are some really, really deep trenches. Plus Bermuda Triangle and all that fun stuff.
>>
>>691590
Nigger are you crazy? Some of that shit you marked is 20 miles offshore.
>>
>>691590
>>691595
Somewhat related, what is the gulfstream like that far north by you?

It's really strong here. Like you go in the ocean a few feet out and kinda float around and enjoy the 80F water, if you look back at the shore a few minutes later, you will have moved 50' up the shoreline before you know it. It tripped me out the first time I noticed it. A whole afternoon in a kayak and you would travel miles to the north.
>>
>>691584
How can I see the stars where people caught the fish?

>at times, a 2m/s flow within a few miles of the coast

It's mainly this area of FL. Between Miami and West Palm Beach pretty much. If you are ever near Ft. Lauderdale, just go to the beach, go like 6' deep into the water, and float on your back or on a raft. Relax for 10 minutes, and look back at the shore. You will be 100yds to the north if the current is going. And that is when you are right by the beach. I can't imagine being in a kayak or a boat with a blown engine a few miles out.
>>
>>691612
It's like a slingshot, interesting info to know.
>>
>>691613
A lot of the Bermuda Triangle stuff is because of that as well. If a ship sinks in deeper water, it can be miles north of the original location by the time it actually hits the bottom of the ocean. So they search the last known location of the boat and can't find it.

I haven't looked at those maps in awhile. I forgot the gulfstream was at its strongest here and isn't anything like that up the east coast.

It's a hell of a choke point that really restricts the area that the water has to flow through, so it ends moving much faster in that area. From what I've heard and read, it makes for a really rough trip to get from Florida to the Bahamas in a small boat, especially in a deep keeled vessel like a sailboat.
