Hi /out/,
I want to go on a solo trip into some deep woods for a weekend but I'm afraid of accidents that could become lethal due to being alone, like snapping a leg or encountering a mountain lion. What sort of items do you guys pack to make your solo adventures a little safer?

If you're particularly worried about getting injured or lost I'd recommend renting a Personal Locator Beacon like pic related.
Also make sure that someone knows where you are going and when you're expected back. Make sure YOU know where you are going, have a detailed map of the area and a compass, make sure you know where water sources are and do some advance research on wildlife activity in the area. A phone call or email to the pertinent ranger station/management office will get you a lot of information on trail conditions, water conditions, etc.
I'd also recommend getting a storm whistle. They are fucking LOUD,are useful for both S&R purposes, warding off potentially dangerous wildlife and only cost $5.

Keep in mind that you're more likely to get into a lethal car accident on the way to your campsite/trailhead than you are to die while /out/.
Like >>719128 said though: a PLB along with telling other people roughly where you're going and when you're expecting to be back are about the best things you can do when going /out/ alone.
