She's cute though dont you think ?

You know what though.
Socialism is a very strange concept for the English.
We have had rulers for a very long time.
When the monarchy lost a lot of power the government took its place.
Its the same thing; we gained a bit more freedom but we are not exactly free. I dont like a lot of the laws we have to live under.

What my real point is is. Are we ready for socialism? If you ask me we are not ready yet. It doesn't seem likes its built into the British, like its something that could be realistically achieved.

I'm in the UK. Hertfordshire.

What's the function of this thread?

Can we share favourite spots?

I'm going hammock camping in the highlands next month. Will take my shitty pop up tent and roll up mattress in case i can't hack the weather. Hoping to camp in Glen Etive and Glen Torridon by Loch Clair.

Any other Somerset bros?
>>
Just come back from Scotland, hiking through totally unmanaged land save for a few Forestry Commission blocks, but they were few and far between.

As someone who sticks to mainly the Lake District National Park, being forced to forge your own paths is fucking awesome and 100x more enjoyable, makes navigation more important also, something I neglect really when walking on trail since I'm normally sure of where it leads.

If it wasn't for the 6hr drive Scotland would awesome.
>>
>>621897
most likely alone

probably 4 nights, Sunday 15th -Thursday 19th nov

Will bring a load of supplies, food wise. maybe MRE style stuff but temperatures will probably be low enough for fresh meat to be stored outside for a day or two. I wanted to supplement with fish but i'm shit at coastal fishing and don't want to rely on a supermarket rubber dinghy in late august

(if any /out/ bros want to meet up somewhere in the middle of our locations before late november... i could use some hammock practice)

>>
who /sussex/ here?
>>
>>621917
It was over near Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, but not within the park itself mostly, on the northern boundaries.

In the future I'd honestly consider getting the train (Pendolino) since it's so much faster then getting a bus or two. Fuck driving that distance.

Vango Banshee 200, intermediate MSS sleeping bag and a Thermarest. Plus all the regular shit, torch, knife, food, stove etc. etc.

Unrelated note, does anyone know what the crack is with national park boundaries and crossing them?

I mean we hopped fences into/ out of the National Park fence and into/ out of the Forestry Commission/ Public land, since they're all really public land I'm assuming this is fine as long as we did no damage to the fence etc.

Farmer here. Well, i work on a farm anyways. It's fairly /out/ in that i'm outside all day every day unless it's truly horrible in which case i'll do some indoor tidying or repairing/maintaining type shit.

It kinda sucks though.
>>
>>622938

What kind of farm is it? Can imagine that arable farming would be a lot less interesting.

What don't you like about it?
>>
>>622942
Beef farm, with a wee bit of barley grown each year too.

I have to begin by mentioning that as a farm type i'm obliged to moan about everything so take that into account... And I should mention some of the up sides which are a fair bit of variety, getting to make shit, some fun problem solving, and often nice tractor time to listen to audiobooks etc.

I suppose a lot of it is I don't much like cows, or rather being responsible for them. They're unpredictable and do retarded shit when you least want them to, getting out and breaking shit and having to be chased about the place. They're flithy fuckers too, not that i'm particularly clean myself but godammit i hate being splatted in the face with cow shit.

Winter is grim, mud everywhere and repetitive cow feeding jobs, coupled with moody cows.

Some jobs are just boring as fuck. Some are physically back-fucking (slipped a disc in feb and had some nasty sciatica etc, painful shit and still is troubling me).

On the plus side it comes with a house, one I could never afford to live in otherwise, surrounded by fields. Lots of access to land to do shit if I want (though being on it reminds me of work so i don't make a lot of use of it).

Pay is sporadic at best because farming cashflow is iffy and it feels like i'm on a sinking ship. The estate wants all little farmers out to be replaced by a couple large efficient money-making machines.

I do feel invested in what I do though which is good, like it actually matters. Many people don't get that I suppose. It can be a bad thing too though at times.

See - ask a farmer what's shit and they'll talk and talk and moan and moan and ramble on about the weather (which is fucking shit right now btw just to get that cliche in there).
>>
>>623261
Oh and all our machines are shit and need constant repair and break when you least want them to...

Health & safety hasn't reached the farming world yet so i'll find myself chainsawing branches at head height standing on a tractor slick plastic tractor roof which is covered in oil because the boss still hadn't got round to replacing the leaky bar oil cap on the saw. But the random dangerous job always needs doing because you're goosed if it isn't and there's no money to do it the proper way.

I hope you've learned your lesson never to give a farmer an invitation to moan...

I could go on....

>>
>>624052
I think it's the whole farming is a lifestyle type thing. Proper farmers like my boss don't go to work they just are farmers, if they're awake they're working or eating so they have energy to do more work.

Yeah I'm looking to get out of it in the next couple years though, train to do something more skilled and less physically demanding. I'm getting old.
>>
>>624138
You could go for like a greenhouse set up in your garden and grow these lovely things that arnt common in the UK. Or import exotic fruits to sell out..

The possibilities are endless actually. I wouldnt enjoy farming either...Doesnt sound no where near rewarding enough.
>>
>>623804
Ayyy
That's neat, I've normally just pushed into the cairngorms on day/twoday trips with a tent.
I want to try a small trip to Hutchison memorial hut for a night or two to get a feel for walking in the snow and maybe take a gander around Ben Macdui again.

There's some good little woods around Derry Lodge, but if that's too far then maybe the Hill of Fare north of Banchory might be a good idea?

I went for a wander here last week

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBeMSzbk6Ro

there are oddities on nearby beaches, things like million-year-old footprints/stone tools (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/10623660/900000-year-old-footprints-of-earliest-northern-Europeans-discovered.html for example) lots of fossils, and some rich toff guy who, even though you'll be nicked in the uk for walking around with a screwdriver, walks around the place without a care in the world, carrying a shotgun.
other-worldly as fuck. found an ammonite (sp?) in the cliffs, found bits of old houses on the beach which had fallen over the centuries from the rapidly-eroding cliff edge, got spooked by skellingtuns at the church which was torn apart by locals hundreds of years ago, saw a tree which had turned completely white - totally dead for years and years - now sat awkwardly in the sand like some kinda ghost, was randomly followed around by a pig, saw some seals, met a guy who showed me a fuckhuge piece of rock which to him was apparently interesting... can't remember what it was called now, puddingstone...? apparently the only way it could have got here was to float over on an iceberg. the thing must have weighed 2 tonnes. allsorts. pretty nice place, and quiet as all hell because there's a walk to get to the beach, and you need a car to get to it, but there's only enough parking for 3 cars for miles in all directions.
>>
>>624280
>can't remember what it was called now, puddingstone...? apparently the only way it could have got here was to float over on an iceberg

>Erratic boulder?
>Glacial erratics. Definition: An erratic is a boulder transported and deposited by a glacier having a lithology different than the bedrock upon which it is sitting. Erratics are useful indicators of patterns of former ice flow.

guess so?

it was "puddingstone". apparently it tends only to be found in hertfordshire.

>The distinctive rock is largely confined to the English county of Hertfordshire but small amounts occur throughout the London Basin

Schlepping it from Braemar to the hills is a bit of a pain, there are normally folks more than willing to provide lifts to the Linn of Dee from the Braemar Youth Hostel if you rock up there early enough and ask nicely, it's a short walk from the bus stop.

Granted I would be willing to lift you to the area myself if you are act moderately human.

What's the society like, is it a mix of abilities/personalities? For example I used to be massively into the outdoors in my teen years/early sixth form, but haven't done it in years, my fitness is pretty shit and I'm a heavy smoker, would I be alright or should I try and get back to a level before joining?

If it's like other uni outdoor societies then it'll have a very wide range of abilities. My uni climbing club has people that just started this year, to people that have done various qualifications, to people that climb high E grades and everywhere in between. I know the kayaking and hiking clubs are similar.

In all of them, the people are nice. They generally aren't the typical uni twat (they wouldn't do anything so uncool) and are very welcoming to newcomers.

Me too.

Know any local /out/ places?

Broughton Moor Arms Depot is pretty good, having deer walk right past your camp in the dead of night is cool, being you can get there on foot so easily. It'll be a shame when they develop the area.
>>

For the hiking society it's a massive mix of abilities, they usually run 4 hikes per trip with different levels of ability, so you'll find something to suit your fitness level. The people I've met through it have all been really friendly,as long as you're not a complete sperg you'll be totally fine social wise! I say just dive in. You will need boots with ankle support though, as they require it for the SU insurance policy.

Hah alright eh marra.

I have my own secret spot nobody knows about where I can sit in peace up along broughton way. Its kind of a small wooded glade hidden in the middle of a number of fields. Its a great spot for a fire and a no hassle over-nighter. I found it using google earth actually and aside from the farmer who owns the land, I doubt many people even know the place exists. Its my own little sanctuary away from the world.

Other than that I mostly just camp in the central lakes in various places. I never considered camping in the old ammo dump, last time I was up there security (or somebody) were in doing laps of the perimeter in a van so I couldnt go in without risking being spotted. I might have to have another neb at it sometime soon once the rain has decided to fuck off. Are they going to deveop it now? I thought it had gained some sort of nature reserve status as theres rare birds nesting and various endangerd insects doing pretty well inside.

(pic related isnt my spot, that's a field behind Rosthwaite)

to be honest as a society we just need to be less greedy, wasteful and far more transparent on high levels of law making and what exactly goes on.

the UK needs to reclaim its national services back from other countries and stop trying to run them for a profit as its bankrupting the nation and the only people getting rich off it are the MPs and private businesses.

we need to uncouple politicians and private business, MPs should not be able to work in banks then retire into a cushy government role or become a Lord because it becomes a clear conflict of interest.

National Park boundaries simply mean that's the border of the National Park. The fences are really only up to give physical evidence to ownership boundaries.

Because of Scotland Land Reform Act you can camp and go where ever you like, so long as its not someone's front/ back garden and if you plan to stay any more than one day you should really ask the land owners permission.

As its Forestry Commission though, its as good as a National Park, so long as they're not chopping trees down around you, you'll be fine.

The only area you would need to worry about around the Trossachs is east of the Loch from Drymen to Rowardennan, as theres a ban on camping (outside of campsites) because of scrubs that leave Glasgow/ Surrounding areas looking for a somewhat local getaway for free.

Because it became so popular, more people would turn up, more people would leave their rubbish, more people would set up camp fires, increased noise and were basically killing the area (Burning trees, scaring off wildlife, polluting the water).

Anglesey / North Wales people... I know there's some of you here - I have a question.

What's life actually like there? I need to quit this farm job before it gets me disabled or dead but that means moving elsewhere as my cottage is tied to the job. Anglesey, the mainland below it, and some parts of the conway valley look pretty affordable.

Is it a stupid idea? Are there jobs for ex farm workers and their special educational needs specialist gf's? Will locals hate us because we're from england (seriously guys how many castles do we have to build before you get the point)?

Anglesey here.

unless you're willing to take on a dead end, minimum wage retail/care/seasonal job you can forget about working locally- you've got degree level people in competition for high-street jobs & there is very little industry left here now. What there is left is VERY cliquey- way more of 'who you know rather than what you know' goes on here.

realistically for any decent level of income you've got to weigh up travel costs vs income, it's not unusual to clock up 1-1.5k miles commuting a month here so having an economical set of wheels is a must here really, as is the ability to drive- public transport is crap. It will take you a good 90 mins to travel from somewhere like Holyhead to Bangor, and that long again to make it as far as Llandudno, plus changing buses- it's probably 4 hours to travel about 40 miles on 'the main bus route' if you're heading down towards Pwllheli, or inland where the service is infrequent it's not practically an option to use the public transport system to get too and from work. If you're blowing £400 a month on travel cost ( again quite realistic) when 'good' take home wage in the area is £1.2k a month it's a bit counter productive.

Anglesey is a funny place £550/month will get you a 1 bedroom flat, or a 3 bedroom house as a private rent in a population epicentre like Llangefni, Holyhead, or Amlwch, but you've always got to factor in the travel- even for basic shit like shopping. It's a pretty much accepted reality, to buy shit beyond basic groceries )and in some cases even that) is a 40 mile round trip.

> their special educational needs specialist gf's
clarify?

it's not as closed as it used to be here ( having said that we have some nut job right wing group marching in Llangefni this week end wanting to chuck the less than 100 Muslims living on the island out) but some of the more rural communities on the island can be pretty clannish- even for me, I've lived here all my life, & I'm fuckin 1st language Welsh

As long as you aren't going to be a retard and baton the shit out of it, pretty much any one will do. But as practical toolset ( ie knife, saw and heavy awl) a Victoinox Farmer is a nice, inexpensive, and easy to maintain choice.

Personally I've been using a Fallkniven TK4 for pretty much everything bar a bait knife for over a year now. if in /out/ doing stuff having a locking blade is well within the limits of the current legislation. Not cheap granted, but dat edge retention .....

Thanks anon. Useful info.

I was sort of suspecting the work situation might be a bit like that. With farming type skills I might be in with a chance in terms of knowing how to do the right stuff, but farming is insular enough on the wirral, let alone deepest wales.

In so far as housing goes, if it happens we'll be buying a house which makes life perhaps a little simpler.

> their special educational needs specialist gf's
>clarify?

The GF is currently doing a educational masters type thing, specialising in SEN (special educational needs)... Her expected type job at the end of it will be some sort of work with dyslaxic/ADHD/whatever type kids and or higher education students. Her job will probably pay more than mine so we might be better off somewhere closer to higher ed spots, aberystwyth or bangor perhaps.

Anglesey and the northwest of wales is on our radar because houses seem quite well priced for what you get round there. Probably because of the job situation you describe! And I quite like the idea of being near a motorsports circuit too, though it's not in any way a real deal maker.
>>

I have no knowledge of /out/ or the hobbies posted about here but suppose this is as good a place as any to ask...

I have recently stumbled upon AlfieAesthetics videos and what he's doing looks fantastic. The problem is I have no friends (although I tend to do most things alone anyway) so it it feasible to be /out/ alone with limited experience?

Also, what exactly do you do when you're amongst the trees? Just chill out by a fire? The idea of starting fires, fucking up trees and generally being among nature is appealing to me, but what was it that got you in to the outdoor lifestyle and what kept you there?

For what it's worth I live in Suffolk and we're not short of a few trees around here so I wouldn't have to go far to do it.

It was me. 4 years later we are still going strong. Shitting /out/doors got me my dream gf.

how much does this cost in reality? i live on the beach but i'm poor, and the fishing industry here has raped almost all the fish - i catch fuck all from the shore. need to go deeper. kayaks are for sale on ebay for like £250, but i'm guessing there are a hundred other things (life jackets, oars, shark-repellent etc) which are gonna increase that cost no-end. what's the real-life cost of going to sea in one of these things?
>>
>>634300
I never needed shark repellant but I had a a Dagger Blackwater (there's way cheaper out there, like you say, eBay), paddle, a spraydeck, buoyancy aid and a waterproof bag. Where are you? I'm nearishto the IOW.

You could probably pick up all you need on eBay without too much cost. I'm no expert on it so I'm afraid that's all I can say really. Was a casual kayaker.

Okay guys, I need your help.

Me and my friend are planning to go walking for 7 days straight while camping at night. I live in the Midlands, but I don't mind driving somewhere to start the journey. I've been everywhere from highlands to lake district to snowdonia to new forest the last 5 months. I don't mind going to these places again but I'm looking for somewhere remote to get kinda lost. Scotland is the obvious choice but it's too far.

I've just been very lazy and this is my way of getting some active routine in my life. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Tl;DR:

>Walking for 7 days

>Need some suggestions as to where to start walking.
>>
>>634512
I suppose it depends how far you walk each day... Both the lakes and sonwdonia you could get away with 7 days so long as you're not super active hardcore army marching 50 miles a day types.

I've often wanted to do the welsh 3000's route over a week but you'd really have to take the walking part easy - I know a fit and healthy person with no weight on their back can just about do it in a long summers day so long as they keep on the move.

Full pack and food in the bag though, I can easily imagine myself stretching it over a week.

>>634709
Depends if there's snow or not... It can be pretty serious shit, I've done it once and had to turn back in a pretty iffy place for lack of crampons. But it all depends how it's doing on that particular day.

Be prepared... Like properly prepared. Know the forecast, know the conditions, have plenty of spare warmth just in case you fuck up somehow, have a head torch, and be ready to turn back if it's not to taste. Knowing when to give up is important shit.

Then again, it could be perfectly safe and warm and dry in a couple weeks, who knows.

The below twitter feed will help, as will the 'ground conditions' section on the met office mountain weather page for snowdonia.

3rd year. Commuting my last year from Hayling instead of living in Fratton again. Got sick of peeling used tampons and dog shit off of my front door. Moved out of Mordor. Sweet, what are you studying? Hayling is good but not big enough to lose yourself in. But yeah, get a train from either fratton or one of the Portsmouth stations (probably PmS). Get the stopping service to rowlands castle on the Waterloo line, walk out of the station, down the road, through a gate and bam, woods. Not enough to go full /out/ and camp but if you want a walk then it's nice. Other than that, forest of Bere. Would have to drive there though, I can't remember where it is but it's close. From UK, Hampshire / Berkshire, do a lot of fishing, mainly carp but turning to the rivers now winters almost here.
>>
>>636946
Sup bro

Where do you usually fish? The sea?

In England, do you need a permit to fish in most rivers and lakes?

I'm wanting to get into fishing.
>>
>>636949
I fish lakes and rivers, fresh water. I've not sea fished in England, I have abroad a little though on holiday.

As a blanket answer, yes you do need a permit.

As a very minimum you need to buy a rod license from the Environment Agency - can buy online. Then you'd pay to fish the lake or river as they'll be privately owned 95% of the time.

Can go into so much more detail, but keen not to table hence the brevity. Happy to elaborate.
>>
>>636952
Ok thanks for that bro

I'm actually Scottish, living in England atm, so wasn't aware of the EA permit thing (we don't have the EA up north, we have SEPA). So to fish anywhere in england, even in the sea, you need an EA permit?

I'm in Norwich so was considering fishing in the Norfolk Broads, but not sure if it's illegal

No worries mate.

Sorry, I answered under the assumption you meant rivers and lakes. You don't need a license to fish in the sea, no.

I've just looked up the Broads for you....

Not illegal to fish there at all, all you need is a rod license mate. The Norfolk Broads has some monster Pike in it!

Plenty of other species too, loads to go at.

Pic related, it's the Norfolk Broads pike record at 42lb 8oz.
>>
>>636959
Wow that thing is a monster! I think I'd actually be scared to reel in something like that!

Anyway cheers again mate. When fishing in rivers and lakes do you fly fish or spin? I've only ever fished in the sea up north with spinners but as you can tell I'm a noob with fishing..
>>
>>636962
Depends what I'm fishing for. Most of my time is spent fishing for carp which is a long subject in itself.

Anything predatory I may use a lure / spinner or a fish as bait for Pike / Perch.

If you're targeting the non predatory fish, say in the Broads for example, you'd be looking to catch things like roach, rudd, bream - my advice would be to get yourself some maggots and a loaf of bread and go float fishing.
>>
>>636964
Ok great, thanks for all your help mate.

One last question, if I was to buy a new rod/reel for using down here, what would you recommend?

Back home I have an Abu Garcia and a Shakespeare rod but don't know much about them.
>>
>>636976
No problem.

For catching things like roach, rudd, bream, small carp, perch, assuming we're looking at budget tackle that's well made i'd say:

A match type reel: Shimano Alivio RC. £25 ish

A match type rod: Daiwa Harrier £44 ish

If you want to spend less you'll find them but quality may be questionable.

Also, I'd recommend a coarse fishing book by someone like Matt Hayes or John Wilson.

Matt Hayes knows jack shit. I distinctly recall a fishing show where he went fishing for pike, and then caught a zander (which is a very different and distinctive fish) yet Matt somehow mistook it for a pike and rambled on about his 'pikes' attributes. I can't take him seriously if he doesn't even know the basic species, pike are one of the most recognisable fish out there, how he mistook it is beyond me.

wear good clothing, especially in scotland. You will get cold and wet if you don't wear good clothes

They have in many places. You need a permit form the queen herself to camp anywhere south of Birmingham for example, and in Snowdonia and the Lake district. Drones patrol popular /out/ spots there for sleep poachers and issue on-the-spot £250 fines. Potential jail time if you have a weapon on you (anything sharp) or if you're going equipped commit further crimes (a cooking set is sure sign you're going attempting to steal the queens prize swans for your pot). Better then auto-fine drones find you than one of the royal hunting parties though. They'll literally hunt you down for sport, and as the only humans in the UK permitted to own guns, when they catch you it won't be pretty.

This year they bought in a law requiring you have a license to own or purchase winter walking equipment like ice axes and crampons. This was bought in in the name of health and safety, to stop us hurting ourselves trying things we best not ought to. Some say it's due to pressure from the upper classes to keep our rather limited selection of decent winter routes free of the plebeians, free for the more financially enlightened to partake in the rich mans sport of paying people to get them up large mountains. They're just the paranoid ones though, drinking too much of that that Yorkshire type tea rather than earl grey will do that to a man.

Speaking of hills, as of 2014 in the lake district there's now a £50 fine for straying away from paths marked on the royally approved OS maps. Enforced by a huge network of CCTV cameras, using facial recognitions software. Stray from the path and the fine arrives in the post less than 14 days later. This is to prevent erosion and protect wildlife. Climbing groups have been fighting this since, but due to anti union laws here any non-governmental collection of people numbering over 10 and campaigning (very broadly defined by law) for the same thing is effectively illegal. So they haven't got very far, thank god.

all of my rage, because it's true. i posted earlier about a dude wandering around covehithe with a shotgun. he's a proper blueblood, pic used to be his house. you legit will be nicked in the uk for carrying a screwdriver, yet this toff cunt gets to openly wander around in public carrying a 12 gauge.
guess david icke was onto something after all.
>>
>>641653
Perhaps you should instead be mad at the absurd and pointless gun laws here instead of the fact a guy who lives in the countryside did not get arrested for wandering around with his shotgun.
>>
>>641653
It's actually not that bad man... The local shoot was just behind my house today and they're a real mix of normal working class types and a couple who are a little more posh. £30 a year and no serious convictions or mental health issues, a secure place to keep it, and you're entitled to own a shotgun. It's super easy.
>>
>>641664
I've just looked it up and it's not £30 it's more but it lasts a bunch of years. Anyways, it's easy as fuck if you want one.

I just started EDCing a swiss army knife you anons need to
>under 3 inch blade
>non locking
and since it's a multi tool you don't need to have a reason for carrying it
>>
>>642634

You don't need a reason to carry any sub 3 inch non-locker. Alox cadet lives in my bag though, vastly under rated.

>pic related has been my carry when not at work recently.
>>
>>634743
MY Nigga, i'm in Pompey too, down in Southsea
>>
>>642634
>since it's a multi tool you don't need to have a reason for carrying it

wait what? is this a change in the knife law?
>>
What sort of food do you lot take camping? Say you're going for a week or something, do you just eat super noodles every day or what? Those camping food bags are fucking expensive.
>>
>>642680
Pot noodles lad

Get the spicy black one
>>
>>642693
Pot noodles have been shit for about a decade, they used to actually taste of something, not any more.

Seriously though do you just eat noodles for breakfast lunch and dinner when camping? What are the options?
>>
>>642634
>GIVE ME YOUR MONEY
>hang on, let me just get this out of my pocket and fiddle around
>oh no that's a whistle
>that's a toothpick
>ah here! a knife!
>>642673
Been like that for ages but you need a good reason. Camping is a good reason, stabbing pakis unfortunately isn't.
>>
>>642673

No you only need a reason for lockers, fixies and anything over three inches. Under three inches and no lock and you don't need a reason.

>>642634
>>642698

Don't listen to these two.
>>
>>642722
>carry a knife in public without good reason - unless it’s a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less, eg a Swiss Army knife

My apologies I misread.

Can you carry a 12 inch knife if you have a good reason then?
>>
>>642724
yes
>>
>>642698
Are you bloody daft?

Nobody is carrying a SAK for self defence, people carry them every day because they are useful.

And no, you can legally carry it without a 'valid reason'. Though its completely absurd we need any such thing in the first place for locking knives or ones with longer blades.
>>
>>642730
You're right lel I'm being an idiot. I actually take a swiss army knife with me when I go cycling.

Misinterpreted every day carry. Maybe I've been listening to yanks too much and they always list a gun for their every day carry.
>>
>>642732
You would probably have more luck stabbing them with the screwdriver than the knife, less likely to close on your finger and cut you.
>>
Student here currently out in tenerife looking at volcanoes and shit, can post some shit and up the rock knowledge if people are interested

Whut. Crampons aren't required for Snowden are they?

Ahh yeah normal law... I got the impresion from that guy that multitools were exempt from that or something. Meh, I'll live.

>>642803
In proper winter they are either recommended just in case or totally essential, depending on conditions up high. I've been up once and turned back for lack of them (way too much risk of a slip/fall/injury/death) and the next year I went back with some, putting them on just before the turn off for crib goch. I wouldn't have got to the top that day without them. Both times pyg track btw. Llanberis path is more melow, though there's one particular bit that apparently gets really iffy in the right (wrong) winter conditions.
>>
>>642809
For example a still from last time i was there in winter, hard packed snow angled towards the drop on the left - I wouldn't have wanted to be there without the crampons.
