I need a comrade to join me since my workbuddy can't come.

I will work near Munich soon and have the 11th and 12th of April for a tiny adventure.

My plan is to drive to Ohlstadt, park the car, go into the mountains, get up to Heimgarten, then maybe up to 1750 meters to Herzogstand, enjoy the sun going down, spend the night bivvy-style, see the sun coming up, and walk back. The way itself is about 10km each way with 1200 m difference in height.

The way will provide an epic view into the alps, but technically there will be no climbing or difficulty.

You need a good pair of shoes, warm clothing, a sleeping bag, sleeping mat and a tarp or bivvy bag and some rain protection. I can provide cooking material, food and money (there is a Berghütte on the way, but i'm not sure if it is open yet, if it is, food is on me).

I have a map, am well versed in orienteering and have extensive /out/-experience. The place where we will have our bivvy is near a Schutzhütte, just in case it starts raining.

You can drive with me if you come from Munich (i work near Fürstenfeldbruck and can pick you up Saturday morning) or we can meet in Ohlstadt or somewhere between.

Pic related, it's the view we can expect with some luck (minus the snow and the cold).

Anyone interested? Smaller groups are ok too.
>>
I posted this on /trv/ and a dude answered, but he said he isn't fit.

I'm not exactly /fit/-material either, i work in an office and don't do any sports. That's why i have picked such an easy trek.

Last year i walked three weeks through the Harz mountains (Harzanon) and met a dude from 4chin (Clausthal-Anon) who showed me that you just walk into a gym, take a shower and waltz out, even tho you don't belong and don't fit into the gym-users-class either. We later sneaked to some old Nazi munition factory, a place where we where not supposed to be. The police told us to not enter the area, but we hopped over a fence in the dark. It was a nice thrill.
>>
>>487573
Ah, what a shame.
I would be interested, but I have stuff to do in the evening on the 11th, so I don't think that would work out. And I don't know if I will have a car that day either.
>>
>>487611
Also, some advice.
The 10km will be easy, but if you're not used to it, the 1200m can be quite a lot. However, even a unfit person can do it, just don't give up, and walk in a reasonable pace. Take breaks if you have to, and bring some snacks (cereal bars or whatever).

And check the weather before you go, the week before will be pretty cold with lots of precipitation. I doubt snow will stay in that area, but it doesn't hurt to check some webcams.

Bring Gaiters and waterproof shoes should there be too much snow.
>>
>>487618
>walk in a reasonable pace. Take breaks if you have to

But mom! I wanted to go at an unreasonable pace and never take a break! Moooom!

It wouldn't be the first time that some unexperienced guy stops at 2/3rds of the way, and due to his inexperience, thinks he can't make the last 3rd and turns around.

Op here.

>>487655
Here is the planned route. It's shorter than i thought with about 7,5 km for the full length and 5 km for the shorter route.

I hope that i can borrow a proper camera (mine was stolen recently), otherwise we will have to deliver potatoe-pics.

Looks like it will happen. I have a room in Ohlstadt, that means i'll drive from Munich to Ohlstadt friday in the late evening, direct after work.

I can't wait!

I'm seriously considering dropping by to trail run that route up, just to show you how easy it could be.

Hey OP, would you recommend those Harz mountains for a one week hike?

I'm from the Netherlands and the terrain is boring as **** for hiking here, so I'm looking for some options in Germany.

Any other regions/routes you'd recommend?
>>
>>489395
Not OP, but if you're willing to come all the way to the alps, do that.
>>
You're not fooling me OP, I've seen human centipede.
>>
>>489405
I'm just by my lonesome and I don't want to spend a full day in the car, so the alps might be just out of reach sadly
>>
>>489423
Franconian Swiss is very nice, but it might be a bit small for a week long hike.
>>
How old are you? Do you speak german? It Sounds nice
>>
>>489434
>>489395
I should mention as well that I'm looking for a wilderness hike where I'll not be encountering a lot of people. I know this might be impossible in Europe but I don't really get that /out/ vibe when it's a busy path if you know what I mean.
>>
>>489354
Op again. Trail run like in running that trail? Like in fast? Dude, it's 5 km length and 1 km height difference! Running i wouldn't stand a single km.

Technically it's easy, no climbing to Heimgarten and only very light climbing (basically you just have to walk over some boulders) to Herzogstand.
>>
>>487573

I´d liek to join you, but:

a) Hamburg is a bit too far away
and
b) I´ve got Family stuff going on that weekend.

Seriously though, do it solo if you have to and be happy you´ve got all the mountains.
>>

Trail runners be crazy folk

Ik hiked the Overland Track in Tasmania in 7 days only to find out at the information booth at the end that some trailrunner did it in 7 hours

Op here. Yes. If you need a route, walk the Hexenstieg, it's perfect for a week and it really is awesome. I walked it many times and will do so again this year.

I personally like to walk out of the season in fall, less bugs, less people, not so hot and going through one of the wildest forests in germany in the rain or fog is just my thing.

The Hexenstieg is a popular route and you'll have the possibility of a room every 20 km or so. I personally sleep in the wild or huts along the way, but technically that is forbidden.

If you camp wild, make it stealthy. The Harz mountains will be cheaper than the Alps. If you use a map like Osmand on your smartphone you'll be able to restock at cheap supermarkets, they are all listed.

Plenty of water on the trail. I never drink it unboiled, but it's free of any nonbiological contaminants.

Pic related, it's a pond at Clausthal-Zellerfeld, where i met Clausthalanon.

You could go by plane or Fernbus to Munich where i can pick you up. You could later get back with me to Düsseldorf and then take a Fernbus or plane back to Hamburg. Just saying, it's possible. Not sure what fah-me-lee means, but this /out/-adventure with a fellow anon comes only once. You will never have the chance again. Ever.

Yes, i'll go alone if i have to. I would prefer company, it's just more fun that way, but it's not mandatory.

>>489471
I personally don't see the point. Imagine all the pain!
>>
>>489472
Much obliged friend! I've jotted all the info down and will probably go in two weeks. Will the polizei be busting my nuts if I get caught camping and making a small fire in the wild?
>>
>>489472
Also, that pic is absolutely gorgeous. Shit makes me excited to go

never mat anyone that would be pissed of, but i also did my cooking with minimal impact, or on public areas where it is allowed or very well hidden and moved after eating.
the times i met a forester i was using my closed alcohol stove and it was fine.

i have made around 100-150 day trips in the area
and maybe 50 or so to the national park.
and made open campfire to cook food maybe 50 times.
But very often when i go on hikes the weather is particularly bad (snowstorms/ wind+rain/ night time etc).
so chances are lower to meet people...

While its technically not allowed to sleep in the parks at night. everybody does it. sometimes when i hike up the Brocken at night to see the sunrise, every hut on the way is filled with people sleeping.

also the police would not be looking for you as most police station are closed at night and only the ones in the bigger citys around the harz are open and on patrol.

>>489458
the harz is quite touristy around the Brocken with lots of traffic. the other routes have little traffic in my experience but you do met people on the trail closer to towns

>>489395
route choice would be the "Hazer Hexenstieg"
since you are from the Netherlands i assume you can read German a bit right ?
because the is a page which lists the "German high-quality-hiking-paths" where you might find some ideas and data.

Op here. Pls, don't make a fire. I had an alcohol burner, fuel can be bought in most Supermarkets (it's called Spiritus, 1l for about 3 Euros, enough for two weeks).

The police doesn't patrol the area, but the Rangers do. If they catch you destroying anything for your camp or having a fire you will be fined. Having a no-impact-camp will not be fined.

Bimp. Bamp. You know what i mean.

Pic is a potatoecam-pic of Clausthal-Anon hauling my backpack to the forbidden Nazi-site. Was glad he did it, i was in a bad shape at that point.

Should i drop the archived thread, just so people get a sense of what kind of slacker i am?
>>
>>490582
BTW, i've learned since then that you don't need to haul 3l of water in the Harz mountains. Even the root-tea that comes down the mountain tastes good once boiled.

Can you clarify your schedule again?
On which day will you do what at what time?

I checked and I'm busy on the 11th in the evening and I very much doubt that I'm fit enough on the 12th. But if you're going on the 11th throughout the day, I'd come visit you.
>>
I'll go saturday morning. I have a room in Ohlstadt which i'll leave at about 10 AM by foot. I'll go to Heimgarten and, if i still have energy left, continue to Herzogstand. At about 20 PM i'll look for a place to biwak. Sunday morning i'll go back to Ohlstadt where i'll decide if i drive home to Düsseldorf or get a room for another night.
>>
Just landed on my hotel.

People, there is still fucking snow everywhere. I doubt i can make it over the pass to Herzogstand, bit i will give Heimgarten a try.

Right now i have to bring my stuff to the hotel, take a shower and shoot a pic or two for you guys.

Snowy peaks everywhere :)

The way was harder then expected because over easter there was a larger snowfall.

So i tried to Legolas my way over about a meter of snow. That worked on my way down, the snow had melted and then frozen solid again. But on my way up every few steps i would sink in to the hip.

The weather was mixed, sun, snow and rain. I have proper sunburn.

The pic shows the ridge to Herzogstand, which i didn't take, nobody else did, not even the dudes with the snowshoes.

My kit was a Berghaus 50l backpack (i had my biwak kit with me), some McKinley walking sticks (you need these in the snow) and a pair of cheap Karrimoore shoes (they get wet fast but also dry fast).
