I'm going fresh water fishing with the lads next weekend.

I've already got a hat for any adventure (fedora) and a fishing rod, but I'm not sure what kind of fish lure to get.

Help?

There's a fishing general, check the catalog

This bait is sex-mode, would probably catch a pike or bass, dogfish if that had them.

Mimics a dark sunfish very well. The main thing with fishing is to mimic what's naturally in the lake and predators snack on. Also, I'd recommend going with smaller than you'd think for lures. A Rapala minnow, rubber worm, some shiners/spinners, a sound bait such as a jitterbug/hoolapopper, and maybe one more shiner would do you good.

You could get by with less probably. Might want to get weedless, but my experience with them has been that they suck and don't take the hook as well.

if you look up local bait fish regulations you will likely find some examples of what i makin fish bite near you, you can then get an appropriate lure/bait

You could ask in the fishing general

A local forum will serve you much better than /out/ where people are all over the place. What i use to fish in ontario will be quite different from what you should be using, especially as a new fisherman where you dont have someone to show you how to jig and whatnot

Although when in doubt, throw a minnow or worm on a hook with a weight 1-2 feet above your hook and you'll probably get some bass or panfish at least

catching a huge bass on a texas rigged Berkeley's chartreuse tail/black worm: it's a cheap simple and productive setup. You can jig it or swim it, really depends on fish and water temp.
