All about Jeeps.
My question, are Jeep Wranglers reliable?

the wrangler is pretty much the only car in their lineup thats immune to the FCA meme.

4.0 motors in YJ's and TJ's up to 1998 are "bullet proof". 2.5 is a 4.0 with two cylidners chopped off. People usually hoon the fuck out of 2.5's and complain when they grenade, but are pretty reliable otherwise.
4.2 is a basically an older, carbed 4.0. In Yj's earlier than 1992 or so. Also bulletproof.
After 1998 they changed the piston material, often causing the #6 piston skirt to drop
No clue about 3.6 or 3.8 chrysler engines or the trans behind them, but the AX-15, NV3500, and torqflite trans behind 4.0/2.5 are bulletproof. AX-5 is trash, even for 4cyl models. 42RE wont last long without a cooler.
Some peugot trans were used behind the 2.5 and were also trash.

to those who've owned jeeps, how often does this happen?
yes, but expect shit to break if you go offroading.

I've had a WJ, a ZJ, and a few XJ's, all were stock and never had it.
It usually occurs when stock, worn out equipment is stressed with a incomplete lift (springs only), bad or unbalanced tires, or usually with stock jeeps, a busted trackbar.
Interesting that they sourced the steering box as one of the issues, it obviously has a lot of play in it but I couldn't see how a new box would prevent this.

I had it, all I had to do was tighten the trackbar with all the life in me then it never came back. An old steering stabilizer (OEM one) will cause the wobble too.

No issue in any of my Wranglers I've owned (CJ-7, YJ, 2 TJs). Just make sure every suspension component isn't worn out totally and that your swaybars and steering damper are in good shape. Pic related, TJ my wife drives.

>Muh squares
I own a low miles 93 YJ (about to hit 120k).
Besides the previous owner being a fucktard trying to do mechanical mods he had no clue about, been very dependable. Don't expect any luxury or slightly higher than bare standard comfort though. What are you thinking of buying?

Totally wasnt the guy behind the wheel.

It's a girl's vehicle and it's a Chrysler.
Is a Jeep Cherokee a girl car?
I am about to lease a car and this is the best bang for the buck. Can lease it for the same cost as a Nissan Sentra, which is crap.

>Jeep Cherokee a girl car?
Not really, if it's an pre-2001 XJ, they're pretty neutral in that department and are quite capable vehicles, I tend to see lot more young women driving around in JK wranglers than XJ cherokees.
