>see all sorts of nice cars at cars and coffees and car shows
>see nothing but shitbox miatas and toyobarus on backroads

why
>>
86 and mx5 drivers actually drive their cars and don't buy them for posing.
>>
>>14739231
but their cars are total shit compared to other real cars with more than 100 hp
>>
People with nice expensive cars:
>have more money than free time
>are older and less of risk takers
>are afraid of wrecking
>can probably afford track days
>buy cars for status rather than driving as a hobby

Young people with sporty shitboxes:
>have more free time
>have social circles that involve driving as a hobby
>are more likely to take risks
>typically can't afford to go to the track
>>
>>14739231
I feel like this can be said for the ISA edition of the Fiesta ST, but not the Focus ST. Though they're both designed for the enthusiast market, I feel like the Focus ST put too much effort into creature comforts and trying to "feel" luxurious.

I live in San Diego and drive a FiST. I do the Palomar run every few weekends and I see a lot of crashed toyobarus, but never crashed miatas. Last weekend there was a new corvette all chromed (I mean a literal full chrome paint job) doing the run as well. Obviously his first time but he was having fun. I almost never see nice/expensive cars up there either.

Motorbikes on the other hand.....tons of expensive motorbikes up there.
>>
>>14739246
I drive an 86 and desu it's plenty fast for roads like the op picture.

Sure if it was an actual racetrack or for traffic light drags you'd be right they are underpowered, but for mountain roads handling > power.
>>
>>14739272
but you can get both handling and power in actual good cars

a challenger hellcat srt with track pack has 707 hp and is track ready and starts at only $27k
>>
Because they can afford to go to a track day.
>>

>>
>>14739319
the track pack comes with a bespoke limited slip differential and stiffer suspension

show me any JP car that has a limited slip differential that isn't 50k+
>>
>>14739279
707hp in a yank barge would be suicidal if you tried to use it on those roads.
>>
>>14739344

the toyobaru would have been a much better car if it had a straight-6 S55 twin turbo BMW engine and was priced at around $11-13k

it's vastly overpriced right now, and if it was at 11k it could stance a chance of competing with used C6s and Caymans

>>
>>14739394
Yeah I'm in the same boat. There's a pretty well abandoned route from where I live down to the coast an hour away that I take every now and then and I find the 86 just wants to sit on 150km/h on the long sweeping bends. This car's going to cost me my license one day.

Mostly it's just off the line that Id like more powah. If I keep the revs up >4k everything is sweet.
>>
>>14739231
This
>>
>>14739449
Whatcha got? You know what I have but I have never seen anyone knocking a toyobaru say what they have. Other than frosty. I could have gotten an old BMW, or a over weight Mercedes but I got a Subaru and really enjoy it. I have driven bigger cars but they don't give me the same feeling. And just because I cant go 150 doesn't mean I'm missing anything. I could take my dad's rail for a quarter mile pass if I wanted but I like corners over straights.
>>
>>14739545
Z4M and a sportbike. BRZ is for those new to cars or who have never owned a fast one. shame, just like the miata i want to like it but the engine is for a commuter car. 200hp didnt satisfy me a decade ago and it never will. Hell, 300+ barely does. You cant miss what youve never experienced.
>>
>>14739603
its like the brz and miata are priced as entry level sports cars or something

man what a concept
>>
>>14739630
yes, but for the 28k for a miata or brz you can buy a slightly used 850 hp sl63 biturbo v12 or a slightly used 911 turbo with 240k mi

theyre just vastly overpriced for what they are especially when you compare to the available options on the used market

This is actually my first car that's not an s10. I really enjoy it. I have never driven a z4. My car is good for 30mpg so it might as well be an economy car that can compete with yours. Also is yours a 2seat convertible? Cause I bought the brz over miata for the extra seats.
>>
>>14739221
Because people with 'nice cars' don't drive them hard. They carefully drive to C&C, park, wipe off the road dust, talk about everything, leave, carefully drive home, and park it in the garage until next weekend.

People with cheaper more fun shitboxes just go out and enjoy them.

Wat.

That's like literally every county road everywhere. Most state highways aren't a lot different and just add yellow lines in the middle. Fog lines optional. Holding out for that interstate level stuff will cause you to miss out on some great roads. And some really shitty ones too but that just makes the great ones stand out more.

I bought 2years old and got a fully loaded car with barely any miles for the same as a new base model. But I chose mine for the 4cylinders 4 doors and light weight. I also don't want a convertible. For what it is it es excellent. Find a 2 liter n/a that compares and the only option is fwd and probably smaller displacement with a turbo anyway. I also live in the rust belt so nice older cars are over priced.

>>
>>14739221
How can I find good roads like this near me? It seems secluded and nice to drive. I want to get my dogumi on in peace, but can never find good places to drive that aren't crowded/private drives.

>tfw lots of mountains but no togues
>>
>>14740291
I don't know if I believe the handling is so far ahead if we have similar tires. The power is all you got me on but you probably have more wear on yours anyway so the over all cost is higher. I'm not saying the brz is landslide better I'm saying in my eyes they compare, and can compete. And mine can do so without needing the top replaced after ten years and fitting 4 people.
>>
>>14740334
so as long as you never need to accelerate we'll be comparable in the twisties? come on man that isn't how it works, not even if handling was equal, which it isn't since my car doesn't come with prius tires and is renowned for amazing handling while yours is known for complete lack of grip. there is no comparison, the cars are in two wholly different classes. the only comparison is price thanks to depreciation. also its called a garage and owning more than one car for when you have to ferry people around.

No, it's true of people who understand if they are making real skill gains, they will be switching cars every year or so.

There is only so much a Miata or toyobaru can teach you. Overly investing in one so you can pretend to be oppulent is what a foolish driving hobbyist does.

Sure is under age here. So it costs 7dollars per tank. If that much turns you off don't buy the car. If you want power from a small engine you need high octane.
