Surprise announcement: I'm gonna be in Mexico this Friday till next Saturday on a missions trip. I'll have no interwebs access, so if you guys want this thread, you're gonna have to keep it alive or repost. I'll try to grab some photos of Datsuns while I'm down there.

Shit, forgot to add my trip for the OP

I'm going to San Quintín (or a small village outside of that, actually), it's about 4 hours south of San Diego. Gonna be working with a construction crew. The church group I'm going with has 3 doctors, about 20 nurses, a chiropractor, three dentists, a ton of skilled workers, etc. We'll be running medical, dental, and chiropractic clinics, along with building a couple of houses and running a VBS for the children in the community. We'll also be going on prayer walks and sharing the gospel with who we can.

If you're down by the border and have a ham radio, tune in to 166.100mhz, I'll have my 2 meter rig with me.
>>
>>14651618
I would love to ham with you but unfortunately I'm all the way in Canada.

Sounds like a cool trip, Do you go on these trips often?

This painful feel

Even 280z are starting to climb. But thankfully Im in southern california so i have time. Make sure you stick to as many datsun groups on fb as you possibly can. They can be really helpful and chill
>>
>>14651627
First time, actually. I've always wanted to go, but scheduling has never allowed. Everything clicked into place this year, and somehow God provided the funds to go.

260z resto guy here...

she's finally off jacks and on the ground. With a complete overhaul of virtually everything, with vast improvements in suspension/braking/chassis stiffness and even a transmission swap... I can't wait to take her to the canyons.

I'll post pics not taken on a potato cam later but too excited to not share this one.

This is gonna sound stupid but...Where should I jack up my 280z? Iv read you should not use the frame rails OR the rocker because they both could get crushed. I heard the read diff is okay and the front cross member. But what about the seatbelt mounts would that be an okay spot?
>>
>>14654694
I've only used the front cross member and rear diff, but when push came to shove I did Jack up on the front frame rails, with pieces of pressure tested 2x6 to spread the weight.
>>
>>14655435
so do you chock the front wheels when jacking up the rear or just jack up the whole car? Where do you place the stands?
>>
>>14655468
I haven't put mine on stands yet, I've just jacked it up.

That said, I'm doing a modification when I weld on bew frame rails, in that I'm also welding on jack caps (thicker portions of steel over the frame rails so a jack can be placed on it without bending the frame rail)
>>
>>14654694
I jack mine up from the diff crossmember and put stands at the seatbelts

and the front from the front crossmember, and stands on the tension rod-to-body spots

holds up fine

>>
>>14657709
lol what are you talking about?
>>
>>14657669
Start with the AC i doubt that shit works, you need the egr, you can change headers. Are you running carbs or the efi?
>>
>>14657812
what do you think, virgin
>>
>>14657900
stock efi, I was told the stock headers breath well but I'm willing to upgrade.
>>
>>14658008
Its a route you could take, upgrade your injectors or switch to carb if you like. SU round top carbs are a good starting point. Webers or mikumis are the next level. I believe in cali if youre running the efi theres a bunch of emissions bs you have to deal with. Try hitting up some datsun fb groups or forums
>>

Is that house carpet?
>>
>>14651579
Had a datsun 720 truck for a couple years
was alright
>>
No threads on travels in a day, but this looks good

I drove with my friend from Vancouver to Pemburton. We went down a logging road for 50kms for a hike to hotsprings

Had a long detour on a reservation road because we went the wrong way.

around 575km total

2002 ford escape
>>
>>14658187
I would like the triple webers, I just am not sure about tuning them isn't it hard to get them all in sync
>>
>>14658914
I've never fucked with carbs, but yes. Generally, yes, carbs can be a pain in the ass.

If you get a L28D crank you can put it in easily and with carbs to stroke out your L28 to 3.1. But these cranks go for 800 in some cases.
>>
>>14658648
dunno, it's my friend's 71z
I was helping him re-upholster the seats
>>
>>14658779
random, but sounds interesting. More pics!

>>14658648
nope, stock 280Z carpet looked like that.

>>14658958
it's actually 3.0L, but it's a real dbag move to rat fuck an LD28. They're fantastic engines, and the blocks are the highest quality L-series blocks Nissan ever made (and they have a taller deck height, so you can stroke a bore them to 3.4L. Really).

>>14657669
Assuming you have to pass smog inspections, you can't go with headers. I'd suggest you port the stock exhaust manifold; ported they flow SHITLOADS of exhaust, sometimes out performing cheap headers. You'll need carbide porting bits (giant deburring bits, basically), some new sharpies, a marking awl, a dremel with a flex arm, and patience.

But this will give you practice for when you port a cylinder head!
>>
>>14659143
No I don't need to pass any smog tests I live in canada so the car is exempt from that shit... So I guess headers is the way to go then?
>>
>>14659143
sure

more about the escape.

bought the thing for 3k CAD

sunroof, 4x4, leather, kenwood double deck, the whole thing aside from the seat belts are in great condition.

only issues are creaky breaks, somewhat unhappy suspension and the wheel baring is in need of a replacement soon on the front right wheel. Gets a little vibratey when over 120km/h, but that is no big deal.

did pretty well off road, took some pretty big hits from deep holes and just shrugged it off.
>>
>>14659161
Yep, headers are the way to go my man.
Headers, delete all the emissions shit (there are write ups for this), and install electric fans instead of the shitty mechanical (saves on parasitic loss, which gives you more power to moooooove)
>>
>>14659174
Sweeeeet. Yeah, I'd get on that wheel bearing replacement, it's cheap now, it gets more expensive when you need to replace the whole damn hub. I'd also work on those brakes.

That image is tits, makes me want to bring my M91/30 mosin out innawoods in da snow
>>
>>14659202
yeah, wheel bearings are not something you want to leave alone.

I use to drive an old Tahoe around... and one day the wheel bearing was going BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZRRRRRRRRT down the highway. I lol'd it off and decided to wait until after work the next day to fix it.

Was a very terrifying highway drive, and when I hopped out of the truck I pushed at the tired and had a hefty lol at how close the thing was to falling off. Would have been a terrible situation if that tire went into the other lane and slammed into oncoming traffic.

this is near where the hotsprings were. So it would go from snowy forest to humid mossy forest

please explain? i dont really know datsuns yet and only am experienced with toyota R motors
>>
>>14659572
I see we have another bakerXderek fan here....

>>14659586
he's just fucking with you: that's an OS Giken cylinder head, they only made around 30 of the damn things are they're worth around $40,000.

If you want a faster truck, you're gonna need an L20B or a KA swap.
>>
>>14659586
>>14659624
Yeah m8, just messing around. What I posted there is basically a relic.

I'd say he needs to keep the faithful L16 in there. Original a best, A BEST.
>>
>>14659624
isnt bakerXderek that gay biker fag? if so no im not
but i either planned on trading off one or all of the 3 L28 motors i have for a L20 or KA.
>>14659643
i may keep the L16 but im not too sure at this point. i like the idea of a KA swap but i also like staying true to the truck and putting a motor thats right for it in.
>>
>>14659654
I say go KA for more powerrr. If you want a truck to stay true and blue just get another one. Make it more of a project. Since you got this one on the cheap you can fuck with it.
>>
>>14659654
>gay biker fag
I don't think he's gay, but yes that's him

As for the truck, if you want to stay true just get an L20B

So they dont kidnap you for ransom money

considering that means "I was poor", I definitely think they'll get me.

you're gonna find some, but not many. Those were in the early 80's Nissans, and most people here own Datsuns.

will do

I leave tomorrow at 9:00AM, so.... I'll try to post tomorrow before I leave, but no promises.

Keep the thread alive or post a new one when I'm gone (I'll be back the 28th), because I've got a treasure trove of Datsun images from early 2000's car meets (one of which I went to as a child).

Found em on an old CD in a box in the garage; thank the stars for fathers who don't trust home run servers. I've got some good shit.

Bye, y'all!
