Im looking to get a radar dector
Do they work, what are some good ones
>>

Situational awareness faggot. If you drive the same route every day you learn where they sit so slow down.

>Do they work,
If you understand how they are designed to be used, and buy a decent one, then yes
>what are some good ones
Any of the higher end Escort models (Max/Max2/9500ix)

I had some Escort one or some shit a few years back. It was kinda nice except for the random X band or whatever that always went off by shopping centers.

Cop radars normally use the Ka band so it was easy to tell. Even if they aren't radaring, it would still go off a lot if they were nearby. Didn't tell fhe direction, but had a strength from 1-5 so once you got up to 3 bars, it was time to hit the brakes. Laser detector worked well too but it was too late once they had the radar on you. Also worked for speeding cameras and stuff.

Also had a detector for ambulances and firetrucks which was cool so even if the radio was up loud, you could still tell if an ambulance was coming.

Valentine are some good ones, Escort and Cobras are decent I think. What is the Passport? I think that is a model name from somebody that is good. Don't totally cheap out, but you don't have to go balls out. And if the cops in your area mostly use laser, they are almost useless.

Passport is Escort. the newer models have GPS lock out to avoid triggering false X band alerts. I live in an area where lots of country police actually still use X band radar, so it's nice.

I bought a Valentine and the Escort 9500 and used them side by side for 2 weeks, the Valentine is WAYYY overrated, detection range and sensitivity on the escort was far better.

And in my experience, with these things, you get what you pay for
>>
>>14601608
no, since cops use lasers now to read speed. people who still buy radar detectors are idiots
>>
>>14601663
Not sure if troll...

Almost all cops, at least in the US south, still use Ka Band radar. I have occasionally run across state troopers in Georgia using laser on interstate overpass speed traps.

Almost all speed enforcement is still done on radar because it's far cheaper/easier for PD's than Lidar setups
>>
I've been running a 9500ix with the gps for forgetting false signals from automatic doors and such, I've really liked it so far.
>>

In my area, 9 out of 10 times if you see a cop at the side of the road he's using laser. My 9500ix will tell me when it picks up laser but at that point it's too late. Radar detector helps in traffic, but you're still going to get pulled over at a speedtrap area if they are using laser.

Everyone here and around Livermore ca uses lidar. Even CHP
>>
Last time I got pulled, I was cited for going way faster than I was. No radar detector here, wouldn't have helped anyway. I got a dashcam so I can at least prove how fast I was going.
>>
Its like you faggots havent even heard of Wayze, pic related.

Combine Wayze with a decent radar detector ~80$

and youre unstoppable.

Are radar detectors 100% useless in California?
>>
>>14604607
