Oh, and it's not as pigfat as your example(782kg? WHAT THE FUCK?!), and it doesn't need a huge as fuck cooling system, because it's not a marine motor.

The Mercury only makes 1650 on 112 octane race gas by the way. It also costs 68 grand, whereas a decent twinturbo big block by Nelson is about 50 grand, and offers more power in a smaller package.
>>
why don't they put these boat engines in cars?

nah R3350 was actually used past just WW2 successfully. You could ruin an R4360 just by fucking up the start

> power recovery turbines mang

3350 wins

Just Listen to it

Nelson also offers a 1700hp (race gas) TT SBC for just under 40K. A 441ci, so 7.2 liters. That makes >>14507793 look fuckhuge.

>>14507876
>why don't they put these boat engines in cars?
Because cooling. High horsepower boat engines are designed to run at maximum RPM for several dozen minutes, while they're being cooled by water. For automotive use, your engine is running at varying RPM (which means you'll need throttle response), for dozens of hours on end (so you need different runing/engine load) and car engine aren't cooled by a nice convenient body of water they're on, they have to be cooled by air going through the radiator. Usually this means you need a really oversize radiator to run a boat engine in a car. Also, the intercoolers on the turbo's are also cooled with lake/sea water, so they'll also need to be proportionally bigger on cars.
In the end, the problem is that they're two different purposes, each requiring a different set of design parameters/
>>
>>14507846
Why not?
>>
>>14507894
Because you can get a smaller (both internal and external) OHV engine to achieve the same power output.
>>
>>14507881
The 4360 still powers the sole (?) JRM Mars flying, so its still used. And the 3350 is used in racing planes among other things. And the Skyraider wich is one of the coolest planes ever.

The late Napier Sabres were also insane

i had to sell my boat for various reasons, but it had one of these engines. One of the most soothing sounds to hear as you are working on deck.
>>
>>14507931
Disregard the JRM bit, i thought it had wasp majors and not cyclones
>>
>>14507963

That has a nice thrum to it. Sounds like a working man's boat.

There is a 35 foot pleasure craft that parks up in my bay every now and then called Red Panty. I don't know exactly what it has but it is a pair of straight 8's and that thing sounds mean at idle.

But by far my favorite marine sound has to be a pair of 2 stroke 3 cylinder Yamaha 75 enduros going through rough water.
>>
>>14507996
Give us some examples then!
>>
>>14507877
Will that fit in my honda?

Well, its 2.5 meters long, 1.4 meters in diameter and weighs 1700 kg empty.

Now, unless you have an odyssey, rip out all seats and put the engine there, no.

But if you do, you have the recipe for a hilarious sleeper

Same applies to Honda GX200 (and other GXs). Honda managed to develop an industry standard. The true AK-47 of small engines.
>>
>>14507862
My STI makes that on pump gas.
>>
>>14507846

It's a marine engine. It needs to be able to run close to redline for sustained period of time. DOHC keeps it reliable.

333 hp "at the crank," 270 at the wheels. Also, good luck with repair costs.

That thing was slow as shit. Leno was just being polite. "I'm not on it cause I'm scared." Bullshit. It was a huge disappointment. 1650hp my ass.

The Ringbrothers', whom he couldn't stop talking about, 1966 Chevelle's 1000hp Wagner LS was a fucking beast. And probably overheats less....
