Yo, /o/
We dug this out of our storage unit, it's my mom's old '81 280zx 2+2.
It hasn't been started since 2006.
This one was specced out with pretty much everything, but it was sitting out so long that the interior is all rotted, not from weather, just rotted from vinyl+foam with no sun protection. The rust on the outside isn't too bad, and the body's nice and straight. (door's cracked open in the picture.)
From the look over, it needed new rear suspension and fuel pump, but not too much else needed asides from the obvious (belts, fluids, etc.) to get it running.
We got an estimate of around 8k-10k for restoration.
So, /o/ would it be worth it?
I couldn't find too much on 280zs with the same spec.

>2+2
Into the trash it goes
>>
Badass
For me hell yeah, it would be worth it provided your guy can actually deliver
>>
Worth it financially?
No, not at all. In perfect, amazing condition, it's worth like $5,000.

Do you really, really like the car, and want to own it for a long time?

Then for you it might be worth it.

But I'm really not seeing what's keeping you from just slapping some new hoses and filters on it, replacing the fluids and going through the brakes, draining the fuel tank and replacing the fuel pump, then driving it for another 20 years. You might want to replace some bushings, but besides that the car looks solid as hell. Maybe a new MAACO/DIY-Valspar paint job, if you care about looks.

Get in while the market is hot!
http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/2016/01/28/datsun-280z-2-plus-2-sold-for-45000-at-auction/

This is a truly exceptional example, but still, $45k for a 2+2?
>>
>>14437399
I wouldn't restore it, but get it running and make it a summer car. It may be regarded as the worst Z ever, in the worst body style, but it's still cooler than 90 percent of all new cars being made today
>>
>>14437399

Paint it blue. You'll be as fast as a porsche 911.
>>
>>14437718
Literally a completely different car. That's an S30, meanwhile OP's car is an S130.
>>
>>14437718
>tfw all the old jap cars I want are suddenly going up in value
>>
>>14437399
God 280s look like fucking ass compared to 240s. idk man if for some reason you just really like it or if you want to restore it for your mom or something then sure but definitely not for profit dude
>>
>>14437800
If OP stripped off all of the garish trim and removed that front bumper, then it would look alright.
>>
>>14437399
Get it running and driving. Fix some of the interior ( with out spending too much) new tire or even wheels of you'd like. Give the paint a nice claybar and buff. Call it a day and have a decent condition 280z?
>>
>>14437399
Nah dude don't bother, this car isn't worth keeping around... Just pull out the L28 and transmission and rear diff and put that shit up for sale as you can get at least $600 and scrap the rest of the car
>>
>>14437399
Here's a picture of the rear, as you can see, the padded parts of the interior are pretty rotted. It needs a new dash, gear knob, seat upholstery, and leather bits. All the gauges work, last I remember and it has only, like 30k-50k original miles.
>>14437664
asides from the fact that this is not a 2+2, it's a dead ringer for the one I have.
I can't find any 280s with t-tops for under 10k in good condition.
And trust me, if I restore this thing, it's mine. So I'm not too worried about resale.
>>14437718
I fucking wish I had one of those, they're a good balance of the later 280 and 240 style.
>>14437753
>worst body style
never as bad as the 350z
>>14437760
It'd have to be a light blue, it's too hot in Texas for dark colors.
>>14437800
The last 240 I rode in had such a rough ride. I wouldn't want to daily it.
>>
>>14437963
....your car is a 2+2, dude.
>>
>>14437976
Your point?
>>
>>14438040
Undesirable and common. It's like asking someone if they should restore a 1980 VW Jetta.
>>
>>14438040
UGLY
>>
>>14437664
This, bro. Get it running.
>>
>>14438241

Yes

I doubt it. I don't know about the states but I very, very rarely ever saw a 2+2 Z
>>
>>14437399
Stance it
>>
>>14438834
Almost every other 280ZX you see is 2+2 here in the states.

>>14438040
Point is you said it wasn't.
>>14438250
This too.
>>
>>14438844
Jump off a twenty story bridge into a vat of boiling acid, shithead.
>>
>>14437399
sorry OP but i gotta go with >>14437408
on this one. 2+2 just no good for this model! maybe, just maybe, fix it up just enough to sell it.

Clean title?
>>
>>14438861
where the hell is my datsun thread dude, I sifted through 10 pages of NONSENSE.
>>
>>14437399
Pretty cool find, IWouldn't mind having one of those myself. A restoration will only be worth it if you want the car, if you're restoring to sell, just sell it to someone who's willing to do the work, you'll never get your money back out of a restoration unless it's a crazyass rare and exotic car
>>
>>14438964
School is busy with midterms, I'll throw one up tonight though.

And usually when the thread dies after three or four times with me only bumping it, I let it lay fallow for a few days.

>>14438241
I wouldn't say undesirable, the 2+2 makes it less desirable, but I've almost always seen t-top fairladys sell.
>>14438844
And why would I ruin such a nice car?
>>14438846
I never said it wan't a 2+2.
>>14438250
>>14438846
I find it kinda like a bulldog, ugly, yet, lovable and kinda cute.
>>14438861
wew, rude
>>14438878
Yep, my mom bought it second hand back in 1985 for 4k. Some rich guy just wanted to get rid of it to make room for a new Porsche.
>>14439010
Oh, I grew up with this car, it took me to elementary school and so forth, if I restore it, it's mine.

If I really wanted to, I probably could remove the seats, from what I've seen, there's not much under them.
>>
>>14437963
Idk i really like my 350zs body style. I do really like the 280 with a nice satin black paintjob and turbo R34 tho...
>>
>>14437399
Just leave it ratty and slam it on some 14x10 wheels.

That's a S30 280z you fucking moron.. OP has a S130 280z 2+2, It is a completely different car.
>>
>>14439424
Lol chill autizmo he never said that was anything other than widebody he needed reference fuck off you cancerous mole
>>
>>14439194
Check that rust thoroughly...older Z-cars were notorious rust magnets around the rear hatch.
>>
what does 2+2 mean and why is it bad?
>>
>>14440582
2 seats + 2 rear seats . its longer wheelbase
>>
>>14440477
I'm not a mole
>>
>>14440582
It has 4 seats, but it's not really a 4 seater
The front two seats are used like a normal coupe, but the rear seats aret tiny and people rarely get in them

>>14439194
the fuck kind of storage are you talking about. looks abandoned to me

Rust isn't too bad, the only real rust spot is at the right tail light as seen >>14439194 nothing really under the carpet.
>>14440601
>>14440811
Wheelbase increases only about 8 inches, which is still almost the same same size as almost many other sport cars of the time.

It's been sitting in our drive way since 2007, so 20ish years of being in the sun will do that. The storage unit stagnated it's rusting.

>>14442285
it's not just the wheelbase, the 2+2 configuration makes the car approximately 257% uglier.
pic is a proper 2 seater for reference

also OP, not worth restoring unless you have an emotional attachment to it. I had a good condition 2-seater turbo, and I ended up getting like $3500 for it.
>>
>>14442357
They're both fuck ugly. Probably the ugliest z ever made. Even if he parts it out, the tranny has different gearing cause 2+2 so no one will want it.
>>
>>14437664
>In perfect, amazing condition, it's worth like $5,000.
Looks like you added an extra zero. I'm not trying to be an edgy little dick, but I can't think of anybody that would want a n/a 2+2.

A turbo 5 speed 2seater in very good condition might fetch 5000. Unless it's a zxr or a black/gold red/black s130s just arnt worth much.

I liked my s130 more than my s30. S30 is a better track car, but the s130 was faster and comfy as hell.

Interior is not too bad mostly really dirty. Dash is warped and the steering cover is crumbling away. All the padding in the trunk is trash.

Somewhat decent under all that trash too.

So long as you're not a hambeast, pretty decent room in the back, especially for it's size. I'm 5'10", lengthy legs make backseats iffy for me. My friend who's 6'1" didn't have much issue b either. Not too much different than riding in the back of my friend's jeep.

Low rust under the hood. Engine is just dusty. Gonna see if any local scrap yards have any wrecks to pull some interior pieces.
>>
>>14439194
Then by all means, If you want the car, and like it, go for it. It's an awesome car, and would be a good experience.
