We chop off
the back end of a coupe
everything after the rear window (that we can)
so basically the entire trunk section
it would decrease weight significantly
add aerodynamics
through these things
handling, speed, and quickness are improved

is it possible to move the gas canister closer so we can chop off more of the back end all the way to the rear wheel?
by doing this we could create the ultimate track car

i am using my car, a BA4 Prelude as visual aid
>>
>>14125752
It would also make the car more front heavy and remove utility and rigidity. Not a good idea.
>>
>>14125752
Congrats, you created a 2 door hatchback
>>
>>14125756

how would it reduce rigidity? wouldn't it improve it?
we'd be chopping right down to the bar before the trunk in a coupe
we would then reinforce down that bar
create a new, shorter back end of the car
>>
>>14125756
>front heavy
but that's what you want in a fwd car anyway
you don't necessarily want a 50/50 weight distribution
do you even really need a trunk in a coupe?
use the back seats to store cargo
it'd work perfectly
>>
MY GOD YOUrE A GENIUS
>>
>>14125762
You didn't say anything about reinforcing originally.
>>
>>14125766
He just said "a coupe " so it could be any car.
>>
>>14125762
same way a foxbody mustang hatch is wobblier than the fastback. same applies with the ae86
>>
>>14125762
No it wouldn't, the trunk adds rigidity to the frame and counter-weight to the front of the vehicle. Sedan/2door/4door layouts are known for this trait.
>>
>>14125766
actually 50-50 would be ideal on a FWD car, it's just that there are better ways to distribute weight that make a bigger difference i.e low down and light as possible is more important than front to back
>>
>OP doesnt know fastbacks are a thing
>>
>>14125770
sorry
i didn't mean to imply we leave a gaping hole

in practice it would look like a kammeback sillouette
only it would not be a hatchback and through that bonus offerslightly more rigidity
>>14125795
i thought it was more 60/40 for fwd

picture the CRX back on a honda prelude, only it does not open into any compartment, it is just a back. surely by the virture of the stock horizontal bar and also not needing to open it is more rigid

the car's weight is more on the front now too, but this is only phase 1, there is more we can do to the prelude
we have lost a lot of weight and unnecessary space on this prelude by doing this
people make carbon fiber trunk tops
fuck that thats stupid

what the fuck is a liftback
>>
>>14125830
a hatchback implies a back that opens
that's why hatchbacks are less rigid than coup counterparts
however my back would not open, it'd be solid back
we'd be using the horizontal bar thats part of the chassis already there
we're literally just shortening the back end a little
than we put a CF hood on the front
throw out those pop ups for weight reducing static lights

we got a track monster here

im not sure why it wouldn’t' work to be honest
it's an extension of the hatchback vs coupe rigidity
without a truck, a compartment that opens, it'd be more rigid and less heavy

the best cars in the world were made on risky ideas that you'd call them mad men for

maybe we should go to /sci/ for this
>>
>>14125807

what you are talking about has been tried before, and it offers no appreciable benefit over a traditional hatchback or coupe.

You aren't gaining anything by having a solid back in a fwd car
>>
>>14125810
no because they end up less rigid than just a hatch. the way to do it and keep the original prelude rigidity would require a small glass opening and the rest all welded up.

>worse mpg
Yeah, although only at night time so its not like you have them on all the time.
>affects handling

>>
>>14126027
With having so much front end sticking out with no trunk to offset the weight it would really screw the dynamics up.

The prelude's front really sticks out low and flat so it would have to somehow be shortened to mitigate the effects.
>>
Op here
the entire point of this was to try and eek performance out of 3g lude by modifying the body
but in a cheap inexpensive way , no costly drive train overhaul or putting the engine in the back
so you'd do the operation, rape the front end for weigh treduction ,stick on a stiffer bigger rear sway bar
then reinforce the chassis
the reinforcements alone (which would be necessary anyway) would probably spread the weight around
>>
>>14126053

It's stylistically designed to be that way and you can't undo that. But we can diminish the effects of it.

It's possible, whether its worth the trouble is another story. The amount of money to get a shop to cut one up would be expensive.

I honestly have no clue about preludes, there could be important linkages or areas located in or under the trunk space. Fuel fuel tank or suspension bits.

As far as legality goes, if it has all the required equipment to pass inspection it shouldn't be an issue. Shit like this has been done before.
