How easy is it to toss a 305 in a 93 S10 with the 2.8l v6 5-speed?

How easy is it to toss a 305 in a 93 S10 with the 2.8l v6 5-speed?

Would like to keep transmission/rear end if possible.

Not too bad. You can buy off the shelf engine mounts for that along with headers and other exhaust components. If the oil pan will work then it should drop right in. The 2.8 V6 T5 has a 60 degree bellhousing so it won't bolt up to the 305. You can use a standard GM 90 degree bellhousing on the 305 with a spacer plate that serves as a bolt pattern adapter too though. That would allow you to get the input shaft where you need it in the pilot bearing. If you can't make that plate though then the cost of buying one or having it made isn't worth it. You'll kill the V6 T5 with 250 lb-ft if you drive it hard. Close to 300 lb-ft is the max if you granny shift it. You'll likely end up needing a different drive shaft though since the engine placement is going to end up just a bit different.

A decent stock 305 makes 100+ more hp than the S10's 2.8 V6. Many 305s can be had complete and running for free because no one wants them. A 305 with typical SBC mods makes only a bit less than a 350 with similar parts that interchange down the road. Take a typical 350-375 hp 350 with Vortec heads, cam, intake, headers. All of that can interchange between a 305 and 350 and the 305 will make 325-350 hp. Not bad if you can get a free 305 or you have a decent running 305 on hand.

Yeah, but you might as well get a 350. Sure, if you can get a 305 for significantly less it's a good option, but a 350 is a better starting point.

The 7.5" 10 bolt will hold up fine unless you start adding lots of power.

If you want cheap power, you could probably find a supercharged 3800 out of a Buick or gtp for under $500
