Why do people think automatics are all unreliable? I've seen so many friends with Datsuns/Nissans, Renaults, and even BMWs with broken manual transmissions.

I never understood this and it gets thrown out a lot. Driving a manual transmission is not hard and literally anyone can learn to do it in a manner of minutes. What do you gain by acting like it is difficult?
>>
>>14078914
>Driving a manual transmission is not hard and literally anyone can learn to do it in a manner of minutes

Except that's wrong. The basic concept is simple to understand. Actually doing it well and the correct way in a variety of situations takes time and practice. But you would know that if you actually drove one.
>>
>>14078914
I think you overestimate the abilities of most Americans. We can't even drive brand new automatic cars with blind spot detectors without killing someone while texting.

Besides, there is a difference between knowing how to drive a manual car, and knowing how to drive a manual car well.

There is no denying that a manual transmission car requires more input fro the driver.
>>
>>14078951
>>14078936
No, it is incredibly easy to drive a manual car well. Millions of people do it every day without any kind of training. Teenagers drive manuals and they are dumb as shit, senile old people drive manuals all the time. A baby could drive a manual if its limbs were long enough.

>There is no denying that a manual transmission car requires more input from the driver.
So what? That doesn't make it difficult.

More difficult than an auto.
>>
>>14079008
nice mad you have there
>>
>>14079050
No, I would say they are equally difficult since most of the difficulty in driving a car comes from situational awareness and understanding of road laws. Actually operating the car is so easy that it doesn't even factor into the equation regardless of transmission choice.
>>
>>14079043
Cant decide between 3rd and 4th when the car is doing around 90kmh, apart from that it behaves the way that it should, theres no clunking, grinding, etc though.
>>
>>14079067
It would be in the highest gear if you were cruising at that speed. It is either broken or you have poor pedal modulation skills and are actually fluctuating speed which causes it to downshift in anticipation of acceleration.
>>
>>14079095
Its a 4 speed though.
>>
>>14079140
So? It's not like it has a little guy inside picking the gear. If your speed and throttle inputs don't change then your gear won't change. That is just how auto transmissions work. If it is not working that way then it is broken. I think it is more likely that you just can't keep your foot steady.

I've driven manual for like 10 years and my car is a manual, since Someone crashed into my car at a high speed I've been really nervous lately and I now take my girlfriends shitty automatic CrV, Ive honestly been thinking of financing an automatic grocery getter to save kms on my car and leave it safe and sound in parking.

Although I love standard transmission and I will always prefer it even over the new automatic dual clutch bullshit, I honestly think automatic has its place

The track prep was sub par so I spun so this was the fastest time. If we hook it's a mid-high 12 second car

Manual:

The only way you can even tell a difference between an automatic and a manual (given its being driven by someone who isn't retarded) is that they might roll back slightly on a hill.
Why are you so assmad? This thread seems to be one of loathing and envy.

Forced to drive manual in a non-sporty car instead of owning auto landbarge and a manual, for example, MX-5.
