>Tried changing oil myself for first time
>drain oil
>oil filter is on super tight
>after trying for like two hours to get it off, I say fuck it
>pour new oil in and decide to try changing the filter later

Now I'm wondering, if I go to change the filter, will all the oil pour out or just what's in the filter area?
>>
DON'T ANYBODY TELL HIM
>>
So I was changing the oil in my bike the other day and I went to the store to pick up a new filter and oil. And the guy asked me if I wanted an oil box. I said wtf are you talking about. He shows me this cardboard box lined with a plastic bag and filled with this kitty litter type shit. You can use it in place of an oil pan the shit absorbs the Fucking oil, you tape it up and throw it in the garbage. All epa or whoever the fuck approved. Holds up to 5 liters. No cans of old oil sitting in the garage for 3 years. No dropping it off at gas stations in the middle of the night so they don't argue about taking it.

It blew my mind.

Game changer.

Yes
>>
>>14041636
Holy shit that's awesome, if it works. What store?
>>
>>14041642
It was at my local motorcycle shop. I live in Hawaii so I'm curious if it's just a thing for the island. But the guy said they sell them at Walmart and target and whatnot.

PS

Pic related and it worked flawlessly
>>
>>14041661
Can't you just dispose of your oil in some volcano?
>>
>>14041659
Never been to Hawaii, but do you guys not have Autozone there? Usually just need to put the old oil in empty oil bottles and drop it off at Autozone.

It probably cost too much to ship waste oil. It's not like Hawaii has any oil refineries or nuthin'.
>>
>>14041636

land fill material ?
>cans of old oil sitting in the garage for 3 years
suppose that can be used to lubricate non critical components
unless its riddled with algae and metal
>>
>>14041636
How much is it?

If it's more than free I'll just keep putting my oil in the new bottle and throwing it in the garbage like God intended.
>>
>>14041675
Kek no active lava on my island

>>14041677
Sort of but when I can just throw it in the trash it's so much more convenient

>>14041689
This pretty much. All recycling gets shipped off island while the rest goes into landfills. The island I sent all that big

>>14041694
Fucking if I know desu and I don't need 40 liters on old oil floating around
>>
I use mine as kindling mixed with kero.
>>
>>14041700
Three bucks
>>
So, will I be able to change just the filter or am I in for another complete oil change?

It's easy on some cars to not spill a drop.
>>
>>14041739
Mine is at the bottom, like picture in OP. I don't mind spilling a little oil and topping it off, I just don't want to put another 4 and half quarts in it.

open the drain plug over a drain, save yourself even more money.

get a decent pair of grippy gloves or stab a screwdriver through it, closest you can get to the block tho or you'll just rip it apart

Fram filters are fine for filtering oil. They just have a bad reputation if you use them to masturbate.

I just soak the filter cartridge in fresh oil.

I like the top-mount because it drains itself back into the engine so there's hardly any spill. They actually bothered to put a drip catcher around the filter port too.

pic related, filter is directly under the turbo intake

I hate people like this

>attempt oil change on parent's new car, cuz I like cars, therefore I can mechanic
>crossthread half the bolts back into a felt splash guard
>lose, strip or break half the plastic push pins
>drop the filter in the splash guard, spill oil and make one helluva mess
>don't replace crush washers or o-rings
>mom/dad bring it in to the dealer two days later complaining of an oil leak
>get to clean up someone else's mess
>get the entitled whining about how it should be free / because it's a new car and it shouldn't be leaking oil
>get angry when told warranty doesn't cover third party work / stupidity general
