Is it more humane to kill an animal you hit with your car or just leave it there?

>hit a deer on cruise doing 50mph 3 months ago
>I was going to cut its throat but it died before I got the balls to do it
>replaced the bumper and head light but the front rail is bent down a bit

I'm surprised the airbags didn't go off. It was a big one
>>
If it's critically injured or maimed it's always more humane to kill it, you can even call highway patrol if you don't have the means.
>>
>>13986633
Kill it.

You gotta remember that a broken leg for a deer or something is different than one for a human. If we get hurt, we can rest and eat painkillers. If they get hurt like that, they have to try and survive in the wild like that in pain until something eats them or they starve.
>>
Depends on the animal, damage and whatnot

I've hit rabbits and foxes that have survived and that I've put down with knives, but being a hunter I've also taken them back home to use for meat or the pelts

For larger animals; they will need to be put down in 99% of the cases. If this happens and the animal runs off you contact your local wildlife authority or similar, notify them of the circumstance, location and so on

Stuff like this is a reason why I tend to keep a small pistol securely locked in my car when I'm back home due to the amount of deer, moose and whatnot running around

>>
>>13986663

Knife, hammer, the handle for a hydraulic jack, a breaker-bar for the wheel... fuck mate, just about anything is more humane than leaving it to suffer and die

If you have absolutely nothing then just use whatever, even your hands... a moose, deer or a 300 pound mexican might be a bit hard to kill with your fists, which is the reason why you contact the local wildlife authority

Bird, rabbit, fox and so on; break their necks, choke the bird, stomp on their head. Only thing is I would recommend you to wear gloves when doing this

Machete?

I keep meaning to get one for when I'm fishing. I need a way to quickly dispose of Snekheads. They have these really thick skulls and I only have a small pocket knife/multitool in my tacklebox. So I just end up throwing them in the nearest parking lot or trash can.

Sure - just don't do what our police did and do it in a public street infront of a bunch of young kids, missing the animal two times and running over its body without killing it
>>
Just fucking leave it. Who cares.
It's not like the thing has a lawyer and can sue you. As long as it's off the road or turned into mush on it. Leave it.

It seems trivial to cry over spilt milk. The damage is already done. Why continue to get attached to an animal that is suffering.
You were just driving and it found a way into your path.

There's nothing you can do.
Get out and shoot it? Just fucking forget it. Most animals die of shock anyway.
Forget. It. You've already invested too much time in it anyway. You could already be gone, and thinking about shitposting on /o/.

But why not stop and collect the free meat if it's a deer or a turkey or something you can eat instead of rotting in the side of the road? I kept the deer I hit, I brought it into a logging road and cleaned it and got a full freezer of meat for free. That's the least that deer could give me for what it did to my truck

At the time being they had, I believe, two MP5's securely locked away, no standard carry on person. They could've used the MP5, but they didn't want to fire in a residental area... I would've just used a baton

"Police in a Norwegian town have come under fire for driving over a badly injured cat to end her misery, local media report. The cat, named Daniella, was hit by a car near the town of Tonsberg, southwest of Oslo, prompting her distraught owners to call the police. Officers dispatched to the scene decided the cat had to be put down and opted to run over the animal with their car. Neighbors told the Tonsberg Blad newspaper that the cat was driven over twice before she died, prompting protests from animal rights groups. Tonsberg police chief Malfrid Hoivik said an investigation was pending but that the method had been chosen in order to reduce the animal's suffering. The cat's remains were returned to the owners, who buried her in their garden. "

If you shoot an animal and it runs off you HAVE to hunt it down and kill it.
I imagine the same would apply to hitting it with your car.

Its an easy, comfortable life, but fuck wolves

>hurrr, they were here first
So were the fucking moose, bears, squirrels and the sami people, and we sure as fuck killed those in sufficient numbers and still do to this day. I don't see you crying your heart out for those. Infact, we fucking eradicated the wolf hundreds of years ago because it was such a lust-killer that it was a serious danger for the farmers, loggers, wildlife and everything

>durrr they are cute
Sure, they look like dogs and they are cool to behold... still doesn't do anything towards the fact that they give us no benefit and are becoming/are a serious problem

>murrr there hasn't been an attack here for hundreds of years
BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN ERADICATED FROM THESE AREAS FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS

They are growing in number thanks to help from the governmnet who have been placed wolves and packs in the wild, they are completely illegal to kill unless they have attacked and possibly hurt a human, a pet or livestock... yes, they have to actually have attacked before you are allowed to take action.

They kill way more than what they need to, they are becoming more and more brave/less afraid of humans and are sneaking around our homes, they actively go after our hunting dogs, and they have in several parts of Norway nearly decimated the moose by killing almost all the calfs

They do huge damage to sheepstock and to a small extent on herds of goats and cows. The farmers have no way of protecting them because the animals are released into the wild to eat for the summer, and there is no way of fencing them off. They have no funds to hire a shepherd and no time/possibility of herding and protecting the animals themselves.

They do get government payback for a killed animal, but where does this money come from? Like anything from the government; tax money, and I really don't feel like feeding the wolves for absolutely no goddamned reason

Fuck wolves and fuck the people who want them

Are they seen as nuisance animals in your area? Most places in the US, you would probably get fucked for hurting a wolf.

Coyotes are a different story, they are taking over lots of suburban areas and pet owners especially hate them. We had some Coyotes in the area for a little bit when I lived near Chicago, not sure where they even had a place to live. But I had the pellet rifle ready to take them down if I saw them in my backyard again.

Down here in my neighborhood in FL, we could use some Coyotes. They would take care of some stray cats. I think I should go hunt some cats around the neighborhood tonight.

Makes sense. The people making these laws don't even have to deal with the problem. There is something about completely killing off a species that is fucked up. But it's 2015, farmers need to survive and wolves have no place in populated areas.

>>13986946
I'm sure the pellet gun would take out a coyote. They aren't that big and I've taken out plenty of fat opossum and raccoons. And the pellets will go in and out of pidgeons and crows. The co2 one with a 12 pellet clip is really fun to hunt small animals with. The big spring piston one, you gotta hit the thing with the first shot.

Not sure about the legality in my old neighborhood, but nobody would care. In those urban/suburban areas, people hate coyotes. They were only in the area for a month or two, but everybody was freaked out about their dogs and cats when they were outside.

Just because PETA are assholes doesn't mean the ideal is a bad thing.

You have not seen the look in a scared, confused coyote's eyes when he's been run over by a snowmobile and his spine is broken. He doesn't know why his legs won't work. Everything hurts. He's shit and/or pissed himself. His pupils are dilated to hell. He's in a lot of pain, and he looks like a sad goddamn puppy in that instant.

Worse still is when trying to strangle him with your boot doesn't work and you park a snowmobile on him to hide him from passers-by, fortunately that seemed to collapse his lungs and asphyxiate him.

Also yeah, fuck you dad, you deliberately went out of your way to run him down, and herded him onto the trail where the rest of us where so we all went over him too.

Got a deer good on the way to a wheeling trip for canadian thanksgiving. It kinda hopped up and rolled into the windshield, did a 360 and fucked my door while jamming a hoof in the rear quarterpanel exposing lots of lovely rust.

I was the last in a convoy of about 8, and I radio`d down to the rest of the group to come help me put this thing out of its misery because they had rifles and I didn`t.

By the time they showed up, it had dragged its 3/4 retarded self to the edge of the road and somehow managed to make it over the barb wire fence and hobbled off.

Basically if it was in the road when the others got there, we would have shot it. But we weren't about to go chase the thing down to do it either.

The neighbors across the street had this awesome cat Joey that would always chill on my driveway. He would lay on the hood of my car, try to come in the house, and hop in my car if I left the door or trunk open when bringing in the groceries. One of the only cool cats I have ever met. Then the neighbors moved and Joey was gone.

But 98% of the cats around are strays. This is Florida, so these cats are everywhere at night. There is one cat that always chills on the same spot on the sidewalk a block or two away. I pass him every morning and he is always muggin at me. One morning, dude was walking his pitbull down the sidewalk and this cat tried to attack the dog and dude. Pitbull was just like "what the fuck?!" I want to shoot that cat especially bad.

go to your local pawn shop/swap meet/amazon.com and get one of those extendable steel batons with the ball tip. cheap as fuck and will be useful in case you hit a deer. I don't know if it will kill one instantly but better for it to die in 3 swings than to suffer another 12 hours before dying

No. If your not coming or going to the range, going hunting, or an FFL dealer or gun shop you can't have a gun in the car. I used to keep a .38 in my car when I lived in the south but that's not ok where I live now. I got a warning from a cop when he asked if there was anything in my car after he pulled me over a few years ago and I told him I had a revolver in the pouch on the back of my seat. I guess you need a CPL for that here

>If you shoot an animal and it runs off you HAVE to hunt it down and kill it.
Citation needed. This sounds like a state specific issue.

>nothing in the car?
>finds my gun
>why did you lie?

It's better to just tell the cop. A joint is one thing, a gun is another. But I honestly didn't know I couldn't keep a gun on my car. In the south everyone has a gun in their car and no one cares

Nigga wat? Do you have any idea how many 3 legged deer I have seen survive and even thrive in the wild? They have virtually no predators to contend with and a surplus of food supply in many areas.
