are there any g35 owners on /o/?

i've been cosidering getting one of the earlier ones (i want an 03-06 sedan but i might end up with an 03-07 coupe as they are easier to find in a manual iirc) as i totaled my previous car (if you know who i am don't talk about it in this thread) and they would probably come closer in price to what i'll get back from insurance

i've heard about oil burning in the 03-05 models and i was wondering from owners of those affected years if your example is burning oil or not

i haven't driven this generation yet (and i plan to at a dealer tomorrow) but i have driven the q40 which apparently is a rebadging of the later models...would it handle similarly?

Ok, 2006 G35 coupe owner here.

1. Sedans and coupes are fairly similar, same interior and same equipment.

2. The oil burning issues only happen in the DE Rev Up engines which come in the 2005-2006 manual transmission for both models, if I'm not wrong. Automatics dont have REV ups.

3. Driving is really firm and sporty, I really feel the difference between driving my chevrolet aveo, my dads sentra and my G it's different steering wise and obviously power wise.

To be honest I suggest to go with a 2005+, why? Because everything is better, interior wise compare both interiors and you will see, for example the center console in the 2003-2004 is different and better, also the video you mentioned the guy has a 2004 g35 which is why it's so bad, the 03 and 04 had quite a bit of electrical problems. Asthetically the tail lights are also different, just compare them both, you'll see.

eh so are bimmers but i would get an e46 or e90 328i if i could afford the maintenance

shiit i really want a manual
how rare is it?
heard of the catch can fix but i've heard cases where it doesn't work
>Driving is really firm and sporty, I really feel the difference between driving my chevrolet aveo, my dads sentra and my G it's different steering wise and obviously power wise.
my previous car was more the feelsy type as well...probably can deal with it
>>
>>13947179

>e46 maintenance

I can afford this and I make $14/hour
>>
>>13947263
how many hours a week may i ask?
>>
>>13947241
I recently sold my 04 G35 coupe but damn did i love that car. Never had any problems with it and it was a blast to drive. I would take it to the canyons on a weekly basis and it handled nicely. It understeers quite a bit but you could fix that with wider front tires and some better springs.
>>
>>13947276

When I bought it, I was making $11 an hour, 40 hours a week

Now I'm part time @ $14. 25-35 hours a week.
>>
>>13947241

How rare is what? The problem or MT? Finding a mint stock 2005-2006 MT is rare in my area, because everyone knows that the 2004-2005 interior is shit and because of the rev up engine, you get 296hp vs 280hp, I dont how many cars are affected by it but if you google it up there are a lot of cases, but honestly it's not that bad of a problem... throw in a quart of oil each month and you're gold, the catch can does work but it's a pain in the ass to set up.

Why don't you just buy an early model G37? Rated at 330hp with much nicer interior and no big reliability issues (that I know of). With the Q50 out and the all new Q60 (the coupe) coming out next year I bet G37 prices will fall a bit.

yeah i'm $10.20/hr 32hrs/week
plus i have other things to save up for

but hopefully someday i'll be able to afford to keep a bimmer running

>>13947310
the problem...sorry about that

shouldn't be too much of an issue to find a stick in my area (pic related)

and with the quart/month thing are we talking the average 1000 miles/month or what

also how would oil changes be handled in this kind of situation? just the standard

>>13947293
>It understeers quite a bit but you could fix that with wider front tires and some better springs
any recommendations on springs?

you also think a change of sway bars and/or strut bars would help as well?

>>13947388
they do look pretty dope but i really need a new daily way too soon to wait for a price drop and i may already have to take out a loan for the remainder of the price of the g35 depending on what my insurance gives me
>>
>>13947429

If you can find an unmolested stick 2005+ go for it, make sure the clutch has been done I've found out they go quickly in these cars and well you know how much it costs to replace the whole assembly. Yeah, quart for about 1000miles, since I do less than 8000miles per year (summer car) I only use about 4-5 quarts per year, but again it depends on the car some oil burning issues are normal in the VQ engines and the rev up consumption also changes

Oil changes are normal, nothing different about it, again don't worry about oil burning problems, they seem like they're a huge problem but it's not the end of the world, check your dipstick each month add as much as needed and you're good, nothing else needs to be done, of course financially it might be challenging but honestly grab a 60$ 5l oil thing and you'll be good for atleast a year.
>>
I had one and just sold it. The paint is shit tier and chips like fuck. The car is honestly pretty fast and a good bit of fun, but I had to replace a wheel bearing every fucking month so fuck that shit. Almost every time I drove it all I heard was wobblewobblewobblewobble

Obligatory.

That one looks pretty good, though no mention of mileage. You might be able to get something out of zooming in on the dashboard pic.

The G35 is pretty cool. You'll see a few around here rebadged as 350GT Skylines. A mate of mine has been looking into one of these too.

Just don't dip the wheels and badges or something silly like that.

Lame, wherei live people are replacing the nissan badges for infinity. Can't see the point to either swap
>>
>>13947965
not sure i'll be getting this exact example but i'll look more into it

and don't worry...the only reason my previous car became the memezada was because it was already in poor condition (especially the paint because the previous owner just left it sitting) so i thought it would be fun to turn it into satire of all the ricers out there

this time it'll be a bit more serious...i'm still slapping on a wat sticker tho

not every car accident is based on lack of skill

shit can happen to anyone...even if it doesn't happen to everyone, there is still a chance of it happening

I've driven the same exact route that i crashed on successfully so many times before

also i was considering a rwd car way before the accident happened

I believe the second gen IS350 can be had with manual. It's hard to find though.

>>13947629
It looks better IMO. But then again, I like the third-gen IS look too.
>>
>>13947108
just to clarify,
06-07 coupes have the small tail lamps and the flush mounted spoiler.
05+ manual is when they started rev-up
03-04 sedans have those weird "brick" style tail lamps
05-06 sedans have the double circle tail lamps (wicked imo)
07-08 sedans are the newer V36 body design and have the VQ35HR motors.

All of the VQ35DE's are known buring oil. I have an 06 coupe and a I burn a little less than a quart per 1k miles.

with the G37's they went to the VQ37HR, which are not known for burning oil. They have been known to have failing internal slave cylinders, which is an automatic clutch job.

G35/350Z's are known to have boiling clutch fluid, happened to mine. A lot of guys change the clutch fluid yearly. I got an SS line and got some fiberglass wrapping to cover the line. Its stupid close to the D/S exhaust manifold.

just got back from test driving and i can say i still want it

didn't get to drive the one i said i was in >>13947607 as it was already sold so i instead drove http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/ctd/5325482224.html as it was the same distance from me

it was in one of those ghetto auto sales dealers (reminded me of pic related) and they are really overcharging for theirs (around $14k...but maybe 102k miles is in the lower range for something that's 10 years old)

here are some things that i should say

first off this unit kinda felt like it was worn pretty hard even though it only had 102k miles but i won't put that against the unit or g35's in general as it was the only one I've tried so far

the clutch pedal basically has the similar swing type feel as the fiat abarth but it is a lot stiffer (not to the point where it becomes a pain in the ass) yet it is actually easier to shift and get going than you first think when you lay your foot on that pedal (maybe because it still does have quite a short throw)...still will most likely take a learning curve to get used to but not a super long one

steering is good

acceleration is fairly dank considering the power to weight ratio of 153-172 hp/ton

exhaust note is a bit more raspy than you may hear on YouTube but you don't really hear much when you downshift (was fake engine noise around in 2005?)

also, since my dad brought it to my attention, have any of you guys consuming oil not passed smog (even better if any of you from california can answer)

>>13950433
it's nowhere near numb...unless you're saying that p71's handle like miatas/caymans on springs and sway bars

What does this look like when it happens?
