Restoring a car takes a large investment of time and money. You should pick something you love so you're comfortable putting so much into it.

>old sports car
>hop it up to be a lot faster
Read some build threads so you can see what's involved with this kind of project before you start shopping.

being a car restorer as a project will ruin your "doctors hands" it would be far easier to pay somebody else to do the hard work for you. also car choice comes down to it as well. some cars were absolutely terrible the biggest example is the MGB midget. many werent very rust proofed at the factory well so got eaten by rust thats if the lucas electricals werent giving up the ghost. pick a car you like and read about their common faults before you consider purchase older jaguars are simmilar too except for the wire wheels. if you get them the wrong way around they used to have a habit of unscrewing themselves while the car is moving you can guess the rest

Kaiser Darrin

or Mustang II if you really want to be contrarian.

But don't be a boring fuck that picks some overused thing like a Shelby Cobra.

Congrats on landing a good career anon.

There are a lot of different vintage vehicles to pick from depending on your personal preference.

Personally, I'd go with a 50s corvette.

Look into kit cars like Cobras, especially if you don't know a whole lot about cars. It's much easier to build and everythings there for you. Just a thought.
