I'm thinking of getting a windshield of some sort for my bike (pic related).

I don't know anyone with a fared bike and I don't really want to test drive stuff I won't buy.

Can anyone weigh in on the difference between no windshield, a low sport bike windshield, and a taller windshield? I'm concerned with wind noise more than anything.. It's pretty bad with my modular helmet, and I wanna know if a windshield would help, and if so, which style.

Hyosung GT650, so chances are I'll be jerry rigging a shield or buying a universal one since fitted parts aren't easy to come by.

Ive asked this before but I am again, if my bike has a 108 link chain stock will using a 110 link be bad? I could cut it down but I'm gonna be lazy if I can. I'm going up a tooth in the rear if that matters too.

Cute. But it runs, drives, doesn't burn oil or otherwise do anything wrong, and I paid less than a grand for it safetied in Ontario with 10k km on it.

Tell me how I'd be better off with something different as my first bike, followed closely with a response to my actual question if you wouldn't mind.

What's a good bike to make into a street legal off road bike? I don't want it to be super small displacement. I was thinking something around 500cc. I'd like it to be under $2000, and it doesnt have to be in perfect condition.
I'm asking because a friend and I were thinking about getting into going innawoods on bikes. I don't know very much about this kind of stuff, but I hope that you can kind of get what im saying.
>Pic related, but I don't want to carry that much stuff

I was thinking about like a KLR650 or WR250 but they are both very expensive.

Anyway a tall shield is what you are after, that is if you want to be upright and don't want to tuck in behind the screen all the time.

That was my assumption, but I've seen places where they say you end up with more wind noise due to vortices and stuff coming off the windshield, especially since it's not exactly going to be designed for this bike.

I was curious if the shorter ones would act like bug deflectors and kind of redirect the air enough to lessen the noise. It definitely has a more upright riding position, so leaning over is uncomfortable.

DR650, XR650L, KLR 650 are your best options, although the KLR is pigfat as fuck.

Don't shy too much away from the smaller displacement bikes. They will be worse on the highway but more capable in the shitty stuff when you really need it.

dunno if you're still around, probably not.
Anyway the answer is 'it depends'.
>pic related reduces chest wind by about 20%
>medium sized generic windshields give mixed results
A well placed one doesn't need to be that big and will reduce chest wind to a mild drumming on your helmet. A poorly placed one will vibrate, be really tall/ugle, and have a buffeting windblast hit you at neck height. It's a lot of trial an error with aftermarket screens. Also you won't have anything to keep wind from trying to pry your knees open at high speeds.

One of the tests on my license was going through a corner as fast as you possibly could and the instructor would be half way in the corner, at a random point he pulled a flag up and you had to counter steer then brake as hard as you could and come to a full stop without putting your feet down then continue around the corner.

It's an '06, pre-efi.

What's so wrong with these things? I read up first. The only quality issues they had was the magneto windings, and that was replaced by the previous owner (showed it to me, was burnt as expected). The only other issue is parts availability, which hasn't been an issue yet (nothing wrong) but I see it being annoying in the future.

Even the maintenance manual is Hayne's quality except for the Google translations.

The CT is more of a scooter than a bike because the design of it is closer to that of an "underbone" scooter than a traditional motorbike.

If you want a "classic" looking bike maybe look for SR250/400's, W650 or 70's CB's.

As far as I know a cafe racer is an old UJM (universal Japanese motorcycle, think 60's/70's Honda CB) that has been customised to look like the "cafe racers" of the 50's (?) who modified their bikes with low handlebars and single seat tails in the pursuit of less weight and more performance.

It's frowned upon here because people try to emulate this style but do it poorly, resulting in a hacked up classic bike, which triggers some people.

Cuckfe racers were never ujms, they used brit surplus bikes like bsa, nortons and triumps. Jap bikes started gaining popularity in early 70s, probably late 60s but cafe racer culture was almost dead.
