So, my only experience thus far with riding has been with a Ninja 250 and I am pretty confident. I am short so the bigger touring bikes scare me (25 inch seat height? dropped.)

My bike just died on the highway while I was going around 80-90 mph. Suddenly the engine stops giving me any power, I start shifting right to get to the shoulder from the fast lane as I'm going the engine dies completely. Manage to get all the way over and try to start it again only to have it sputter up briefly before slowly dying again. Get it started one more Time and give it some good revs before shifting into first only to have it completely shut off the second I shift.
My buddy behind me said he saw a huge puff of black smoke right before it started to die the first time.
Anyone have any idea what the issue is? I'm about to have it towed over to my apartment so I can try some more troubleshooting.
