Miata general? Don't see one currently

Stock NA Miata fag here

>After installing a megasquirt is it worth it to get it tuned in stock form? Maybe just adjusting timing, 93 octane and full exhaust. Would I see any noticeable power gains or should I just wait for bigger modzz?

according to miataturbo.net, you can see like ~5hp gains with stock megasquirt tuning. You should learn to tune it yourself though either way.
>>
>>15344775
this
use stock to learn how to use tuning software and tune around it, it'll help a lot as you add bits
although i guess you could get new bigger injectors first then tune around those

How do I get a Miata without looking like a faggot?

Is a Mazdaspeed 3 the answer?
>>
>>15344820
Mazdaspeed is literally the gayest Miata. So overpriced for the power it makes. Only decent thing about it is the trans. Buy and NA/NB and start building it. Accept your sexuality

The part that makes you a faggot is thinking that your car is whats giving you a craving for cocks.

Thats a pretty good deal all around. Check for rust in the usual places: lower rocker panels, lower front fenders, trunk and floor pan under seats. Doesn't look like it's been modded so I doubt it was ever driven hard. Ask if timing belt was done at 60k and if not replace it immediately. Good luck hope you get it anon

Tried running the car without swaybars, the comfort was top but the steering was not as responsive and the car didn't handle like a pancake.

This is the problem with megasquirt.

It is now so easy (literally plug and play), and so cheap to get stand alone management that countless numbers of plebs are installing them in their mazdas, when they have no idea of how to calibrate an engine!

Spend 6 months reading books on engines.
Then try tuning the engine.

You will achieve more clarity of engine performance in 6 hours tuning the car than you could reading the books, BUT you need a full understanding of the mechanical and electrical systems, and a good understanding of the fuel system calculations, and what the parameters in the ecu actually do.
You also need to know what air fuel ratios and ignition timing are all about (in depth, not just what they are).
Without any knowledge you're just changing values and hoping its right.

The auto tune is good. But it won't do acceleration enrichment calibration, cold start or warm up calibrations, idle calibration etc.

None of this is difficult to learn, just fucking do it.
Fuck off

Greg Banish stuff is good for covering the basics.
Read the megasquirt mega manuals till you know them backwards.

What will happen though is you'll find these sources are pretty basic. When you have the engine at full load high rpm and you're trying to watch a wideband gauge, listen for knock through a hose AND drive the car, you want to have everything straight in your mind.

So what are some decently priced struts and spring combos if I want to lower my NA? I saw some Koni STR.T, but they go for 520 bucks.

Is that the regular price or are there better bang for buck options? I don't need to be able to customize anything, I just want a modest drop. I live in an area with ALOT of speed bumps.

Guys there's a silver NB miata for sale near me. The only thing that doesn't work is the cruise control which I don't care about.

I'm just trying to weigh how much I care about fender rust vs the price. He wants $2500 for some reason, but would it be worth it if I can low ball him for under $2000?
>>
>>15359219
If I remember correctly, its a stubby antenna from an s2000. it looks much better then a regular antenna, but holy shit does it get terrible signal radius for radio-stations. the one rock station in NJ and I can't even get its signal baka
>>
>>15359727
I thought they were smaller than stock, but they have similar circumference to the stock wheel + tire.
Maybe 16 inch just looks weird on stock height.
>>
>>15359699
If you want to go lower just get some Megan EZ street coilovers, they're like $700. They're a huge step above racelands. Pretty solid budget coilover
>>

How's the 2016 MX-5?

$24k seems like a hell of a price for a nice sports car.

They got good rollbars? I don't want to get crushed and die horribly.

What do they look like with the top up?
>>

a friend of mine bought an ND a few months ago.
from what we can tell, the manual gearbox is tuned for the 1.5l engine, so the 2.0 rips through the gears.
you want the club trim or higher, Sport trim comes with an open diff
>>
>>15360147
with the top up, looks pretty good considering convertibles don't looks great with tops up anyway. google should have some images. I'd recommend the ND in white, very pretty lines.

I lied, it's back now. What do I do to fix this. It's excessive egr flow. Do I have to break the valve down further?

Gross. Is there any fix for that?

>>15360314
I was thinking blue actually. I live in a rural area, dirt shows up too well on bright colors, I already have a white Buick LeSabre as my daily driver that the family has been using for almost 20 years, and I've owned for about 5, so I know dirt on white paint.

Speaking of dust, how well do they handle rough roads and/or dirt roads, we hit a lot of those around here.
>>
>>15360990
I'm both of those anons.
when I said "rips through the gears" I didn't mean damage. it just revs really fast and 6th gear isn't super tall.
I never drove the car on dirt, but the driving dynamics are easy to feel and I was fairly comfortable driving on the edge. just take it slow on dirt.
>>
>>15361020
I see, I've never actually driven a manual before but I really want to learn how (my friend will probably teach me on his Kia sportage because he's the only person I know with a manual) I figure a car like this is like a jeep, you get it for the purpose of driving for the sake of driving, not just to get you around, so for a car like that it's a crime to get an automatic.
>>
>>15361414
you understand a manual driver's car perfectly, welcome.

regular racelands will do fine for street use. you can have them shipped to your door for like $320, make sure you set the helper spring so that you have about 2-3 inches of shock travel before hitting the bumpstop. that will give you a nice clean 1-2" drop while maintaining an excellent return rate.

don't listen to the moronic hype on spending the cars worth on coilovers unless you're tracking the car. if you're routinely pushing the car to the limits, i'm sure racelands won't hold up. however there are countless viable sources who vouch for racelands for street use. the people who immediately discount them either slammed their car with them or are blatant shills for flyin miata.

you're welcome, inb4 10,000 (you)'s from miataturbo & clubroadsters defense force.
>>
>>15361637
P much this I ride on racelands all day long and they are great, as a bonus, if you wanna upgrade later down the line koni 8610 or 8611 inserts are literally a drop in replacement fur the raceland dampers.

only downside is im over 6foot with long legs and massive feet so the driving position isnt ideal, i was thinking perhaps if i fitted an aftermarket bucket seat or something that could help? either way i want to just be done with the headache and enjoy some blue sky motoring here in the sun

If it's not on the ground, it went into the air.
If you see and smell smoke check if your valve cover is leaking, otherwise it's probably getting past your rings or valve guide(seals)
Just keep dumping oil in it and check often, it's not really the end of the world.

After last weekend's drift event my car handles like shit. It's loose and floaty feeling up front. At 55mph+ it pulls hard in whatever direction you turn. If you slightly turn the wheel at 65 it almost 'grabs' a second into it and pulls the car hard in that direction.

I checked to see if anything was broken or loose. Checked tie rod ends, sway bar connections and control arm bolts and all were tight, not bent or broken. One control arm bushing looked a bit frayed. Could a bad bushing or two up front cause this symptom?

The track where I was at had huge potholes and a bump that I hit a couple of times.

No, control arms or struts or god knows what are bent, same thing as when you hit a curb. Take the car to an alignment shop, they will be able to tell you what is wrong.

>ITT someone who is jealous of not having an MSM.

Thing about my MSM is people actually take me seriously. They don't look at your car as much as, "lol hairdressing fag" as much as auto enthusiast, just because of branding.

In all seriousness though, you can make 200-210WHP in your MSM with just bolt on's. You'll drop 4K minimum on a turbo setup for an NA miata to reach those numbers. What is better? I guess that is up to you, but I like the uniqueness to my MSM, the appearance, the suspension, the LSD, the warranty that came with while having a factory turbo, the modestly louder exhaust, the improve steering, etc.

The cons to the MSM are pretty minimal: a small turbo that engages late in the RPM range, an ecu that limits a lot of output, the bigger and heavier wheels (though I could list this as a pro since they are pretty fucking nice), the gear ratios make 1st practically useless.

All of these are upgradeable for much less than you'd spend for getting your N/A NB or NA up to speed, and you would gain pretty good numbers at the same time. The FM Little Ench will get you to S2K crushing territory and you'll be able to overtake Lotus vehicles on the track.

I guess it depends on what you want. If you're making an LSX swap Miata, then of course a MSM is not right for you.

I always wanted to drive one wonder if I could fit they are absolutely tiny

Would it be a smart move to sell my 94 NA for a MSM? I wanted to achieve 200-220hp with my current miata but with getting a happy meal, a mega squirt, and quality parts on top of not worrying if my 5speed will get fucked up seems like the same price towards the upgrade+simple bolt ons. The MSM retaining better value, a sturdy chassis and much more room for improvement.

what do

the highest surface in the right side is the center console/e brake so even if I rest my right arm on those its still mostly vertical. The top of my right arm is somewhat burned but still not as bad as the nigger-tier tone on my left arm

Northern IN here.

I bought her lads. Yesterday I saw my dream car sitting in a roadside dealership's garage on my way home from work: a fully stock, manual, red, Mazda Miata from 1993. I'd seen it three weeks prior but I thought it would be gone by now. At the time the only things wrong was some slight rust on the rear wheel wells and the radiator was leaky.

I see it yesterday and ask if anything has changed with it .He said he had ground off the rust and replaced it with fiberglass and painted over it. He also replaced the radiator and hoses completely as well as the front fenders and the control arms.

I call my dad and tell him we have to scoop this up, the dealer was about to paint it and mark it up to $3800. He said he'd be fine with the price he suggested before, $2600. I actually couldn't believe it. Not only was it still there, but he had made improvements to it and kept it the same price.

My father and I spent about two hours looking at every little thing we could, looking for absolutely anything wrong with it. We both drove it for about 20 minutes each and agreed that everything was in great condition for its age and the asking price.

Easily the most fun I've ever had driving a car in my whole life. I can't believe I was missing out on this for so long. What a fantastic little car.

I think the only thing I really want to do to it is put in an aftermarket radio. I read that it's a pretty small slot though and you have to find pretty specific ones for it though. Is that true? Also the previous owner left the center console a mess of wires. He tore out his radio I guess and left some godawful aftermarket equalizer thing in it. Now there's just this big mess of wires I don't know what to do with. Help.

Congrats anon. Looks great!

As far as the radio thing - no it doesn't need a special size for the radio. Never heard of that rumor. It has two standard din slots so single or double will fit no problem.

Most of the time radio wiring is done incorrectly and is a mess from the previous owner - mine was. Hopefully the factory plug in the harness for the radio is in tact and they just made a poorly connected universal connector for their aftermarket radio. If the plug for it is fine, just unplug what they did and try and clean it up or trash it and buy another universal kit for $15ish. I cleaned up the PO's mess by cutting off where he spliced together with the radio plug.

If it was spliced directly to the harness of the car you will have to do the work in the car - which sucks but is doable.

Pic related. Me cleaning up the harness and wiring it correctly.

Thanks! Hope to clean her up more in the coming weeks!

Unfortunately this is what the previous owner did to the center console... it looks like he literally ripped the radio out.

I'd rather have a 1.8 NB over a 1.6 NA. If you get a 1.6 NA It'll take you a fair amount of mods to even reach the performance of the 1.8 NB. NB has more tuning potential etc. However if you plan on running a standalone ecu, check with your state to see the emissions regulations for your area.

In my area, the obd2 port (only on cars 1996+) must be functional to pass an emissions. If the car is obd1 or obd0, they just use a sniffer in the tailpipe. This makes running megasquirt on a 1996+ street car difficult. As long as the obd1 or obd0 cars run clean enough, they'll pass. Even if they're boosted.

So I got under it and there's a shit load of oil around the crank pulley - seems to be coming from it. Also there's a lot of oil at the back of the oil pan and some on the bottom of the transmission. I want to believe it's coming from just the crank and moved its way back, it kind of looks like it did a little but I have a feeling I'll be replacing the rear main seal too... bet I'll need to buy more tools - and I guess messing with the crank pulley means I may as well do the timing belt and water pump? I wish I had more money, because if I'm pulling the engine out or dropping the transmission, I'd like to throw in that FM clutch kit I've been drooling over for a while. Fuck. But yeah, don't see any oil on exhaust or intake sides. Doesn't seem to be coming from up top either, but I need to replace the valve cover gasket anyway because there is some oil getting to my spark plugs.

88k miles on it btw, fuck my shit up, everything around me has been breaking lately.

Yikes dude. Well at least it still has the single din frame thing so you can mount the new radio easily.
