If it's adjustable it needs to be changed for the rider. If you are a drastically different weight to the last owner then it may need to be resprung, revalved.

Why do naked bikes never have the same horsepower as the sport bikes they share engines with? For dual sports it makes sense because MX bikes need constant maintenance, but sport bikes keep working forever.

>>15307259
It's annoying but I'm pretty sure its from the general consensus that those of us who prefer the naked and more "comfort oriented" riding positions don't want such a race oriented engine either. Most commonly the motors are just tuned differently in a way they have more low/mid-range and less high range.

My bking though was only down about 10hp from the 08 busa it shared the motor with and that was just from an exhaust/intake difference iirc.

>>
>>15307259
It's not about horsepower only anon.

Most old 600 i4s have very little pull in low revs, yet they go fucking bananas in high revs.

I was actually pretty skeptical about the whole "hurr durr usable tork" thing until I actually got an i4 sportsbike.

track oriented engine setups are not very practical for road and city usage. The bike doesn't respond very well in low revs, if you're cruising on 4k revs on sixth gear and want to do a quick overtake, you'd have to drop 2 gears and gun it.

On a twin or something with more torque you could just gun it from your current gear and pass.

The whole retuning thing isn't "they're make the engine more lame" but they're actually making it usable for a different purpose that is not the track (high revs all the time)

Silly man.
Buy a used supersport cash, spend the rest on really nice gear and some track days.
>>
I'm trying to wrap my head around countersteering. I'm watching videos of actual traffic driving and at absolutely no point can I detect the front wheel being turned in the direction opposite the turn direction.
Say this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SF1ezf8LNNU

Someone on /dbt/ told me that if i ever took a corner at more than 10mph I was already countersteering subconsciously but I'm beginning to doubt I ever did that, perhaps I've really always decelerated down to 10mph? Or is the actual handlebar pressure really so subtle as to be invisible on video other than slow-mo motogp?
>>
>>15307915
I wouldn't finance a supersports. My current bike is an adventure bike that I use as a commuter tourer. I'm just not sure whether to get completely debt free and put off buying a supersports or get one as soon as my bonus arrives.

I'm also not sure which to get (whenever that is) in terms of preferences, I really like how the Fireblade handles but much prefer the ergonomics of the S1000RR. However, I don't think I could find a good example of the BMW for £10k.
>>
>>15307921
>Pretend you're on your bike (put your arms out in front of you
>Pretend you're leaning into a corner
>Note that your lower arm is now further forwards

Countersteering is very subtle.

It's dark magic, eresy banned eons ago.
>>
>>15307940
Kek
Well i have coil packs so fuck it.
>>
>>15307936
Is it more like "you lean left, what your hands do on their own is countersteering unless you violently force them to turn the handlebars in the direction of the turn" instead of "you know how you turn right by turning your handlebars right at low speed? well at high speed it's the opposite because of magic" ?
>>
>>15307921
>Or is the actual handlebar pressure really so subtle as to be invisible on video other than slow-mo motogp?
That, and unless you're turning really hard (small radius, large angle, high speed) you'll turn the handlebars back into the direction you want to go once you've induced lean by counter steering.

Find a large open area or go on a highway. Somewhere where you'll generally go straight, but can veer off to the right or left a bit without putting yourself into danger. Accelerate to ~60 mph. Try to take ALL weight off your wrists (so you're holding the handlebar as lightly as possible), maybe even letting go with one hand. Look to the right (because if you look straight or even left, you will subconsciously try to fight the bike leaning to the right), consciously push the right handle forward CAREFULLY. The bike will try to go right.
>>
>>15307888
>The minute the distrubutor looses contact (opens) it sparks? Duh fuq?

It's quite simple, the battery supplies DC but the coil only outputs a (high) voltage as a result of a change in voltage. When the contact is initially made, the rise in voltage is too slow to trigger a spark but the sudden drop when contact is lost is fast enough.

sup /dbt/, crashed for the first time this afternoon..
Thankfully I just hit a patch of oil or mud or something slippy at relatively low speed in a corner.

I'm fine and so is most of the bike, but the front wheel is now misaligned (I think).
Basically, if the bike goes straight, the handlebars are slightly to the left.

Tried to take a pic of the problem, but it's really just a minimal offset. Maybe 2 degrees.

It depends what you want, if you want the perfect all rounder that drops into corners smoothly and whisks you along at a modest speed the 800 is absolutely ideal. If you're a speed freak with the back of a 50 year old and the mentality of a 9 year old, the 1200 is tremendous. It's like comparing a Lotus to a Mustang, they each have their place.

I wouldn't even attempt to compare the two (three?) since they handle very differently.

>Basically, if the bike goes straight, the handlebars are slightly to the left.

try this:
leave the lower triple claps like they are and open the upper triple clamps on both sides. jerk the front a bit and they should in theory be aligned again. Tighten the upper triple clamps again
Look up the torque for the screws.
Probably something around 15Nm to 30Nm if it is a USD fork. Might be higher if it is a conventional fork

Remember when your bicycle handlebars got out of alignment with the wheel, and you hit the wheel on a wall twisting the bars, realigning everything?

Try that, might help. If that doesn't work, do what anon described.

If what anon described doesn't help, your clamps probably twisted. Also check your handlebars carefully, they usually bend easily too.
