My first and allegedly only valve adjustment is at 36,000 miles. I have the shop manual and there is no fucking way I'm doing it myself. This is where I will gladly hand over large money for a certified tech to do it. One of the few things I will pay someone else to do.

to do the air filter i have to take the fuel tank off, to change the oil/oil filter i have to take the muffler off then the headers off, takes about an hour maybe 2 from start to finish for a service.
if you have to work on the engine though that is a huge job, id estimate it takes about 6 hours just to get the damned thing out of the frame.

It requires, on the BMW k1600, several expensive specialized tools. Plus honestly, if it indeed only needs to be once, there's a shit load of disassembly to get to them that I'd rather not deal with. And I'm not a fan of our nearest BMW Motorrad dealer. I might take it up to Omaha rather than KC.

Well it doesn't help that it has a massive inline 6 wedged in there along with everything else. Plus you need shims, and I don't want to buy every combination of shims for all valves on all cylinders IF I even need to adjust them. And driving back and forth to Kansas City for shims and parts is too much of a pain in the ass.

Even though there's a high pressure area at the base of the windshield the roof creates lift by increasing the distance over the top of the car you tard. A Porsche 996 Carrera has 600lbs of lift at 150mph. If average street cars made downforce the steering would be heavier at higher speeds not lighter.

Actually the last Z28 had 400lbs of downforce at under $100,000 but you could barely buy one of those things regardless.

I have a log where one face was cut at a bit of an angle. I set it on the field today and started practicing log hops over it. At first it was really sketchy where the front end would bounce over and dive while the rear end bounced way up and slapped my butt/balls. After a few tries I started getting the hang of it and weighting the pegs at the right time so it was less crazy. After it got dark I tried doing it a few more times, but the grass is really slippery when wet so things started sliding. I think the log slid to the side when my front wheel it it and my rear wheel slid to the side, and then my front wheel slid too when it came down. I fell kind of hard. No damage though. Actual knobby tires may have helped.

>>15298012

Easy enough to address here in Colorado.

So why can a sportbike do everything an africa twin can even though the riding position, ground clearance, and suspension design is more conducive to rough/off road terrain on the africa twin than any sports bike ever? Why could a cbr600cbr keep up just fine with an africa twin?
>>
>>15298226
So why aren't you getting one of Honda's dirtbikes instead of a machine that can only handle dirt roads, but is unlikely to ever see one?

I use a wired x360 controller, they're way cheaper than PS3/4 controllers and the automapping without 3rd party software for games is great.

Only complaint is the d-pad absolutely sucks so I tend to use the stick when playing retro games on emulators.

What I'm going to do is just get a USB SNES controller for those games instead.

Grab an Xbox One controller, the regular console one isn't very expensive and connects to your PC via micro USB, and gets power through that so no battery drained. If you need wireless there's a PC version that comes with a dongle.

It's basically a 360 controller with an unfucked dpad, very comfy.

The best solution is get multiple bikes.

Here's my stable:
>R1150GS for touring, cruising, and light off road
>SV650S for track days an spirited riding
>Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 for spirited riding and short distance "touring"
>DRZ400SM hooning (it's still in pieces though)

Trying to make one bike do everything is a fool's errand.

Adventure bikes in the sense that they can DO EVERYTHING is absolutely a meme. They are just touring bikes that have enough ground clearance and suspension travel to be OK in varying degrees of dirt.

you sacrifice so much for absolutely zero offroad performance gain

even if by some miracle you aren't a nobike the only adventure you do is the run to the local starbucks and back (when it's nice out)

you lust after an immensely heavy machine which is acceptable at road riding, because that's all it will ever do, but pretending an adventure bike has any offroad ability above that of literally any other motorcycle is delusional

Offroad isn't adventure. If you want offroad you want a light bike that goes forever. WR250 is great. About as heavy as you want to go.

I rode this to Costa Rica (now on a break to go to Patagonia). Why? Because it has great power for highways, carries my load well (for months of traveling + sometimes with lady passenger) and actually does absolutely fucking great on rough dirt roads or casual offroad stretches.

No, it won't do single track. But 'literally any other bike'? Stop being a dense moron.

>>15298458
They are fine. I've done 1000 miles on a KLR650 and I have no desire to actually own one. It's not good enough on the highway or the dirt to justify it. Especially if you live in an area with highways posted 75mph. Trying to keep up with traffic heading west on I-70 out of Denver is fucking horrible on a KLR.

I'm sure the Husky/KTM are much better, but you pay a premium for them and then you still have to maintain them.

I rode the G650GS back when it was an F. The Rotax motor is great, but not well suited to long highway stints. It's a better version of the KLR.

These aren't "do everything" bikes at all.

It's a touring bike I can take on mild offroad sections. It's exactly what I wanted. It was also pretty affordable, I bought it for $6000 back in 2010. Not that much money for the amount of bike I got. I've put 20,000 miles on it since then.

They're made for comfortably riding dirt roads and light off road comfortable.
Could you go down a fire road on a Harley or a gsxr? Absolutely
But you won't be nearly as comfortable as the guy with nearly double the ground clearance and suspension travel with a better off road riding position.
You can unscrew bolts and lugnuts with a pair of channel lock pliers, and a pneumatic hammer drill is ideal, but a ratchet set is perfect for most people

Do you have something else to ride when it's not working?

Who the hell is going to sell you an RSV4 for $6500? If it isn't rebuilt/salvage you should buy it.

If you want something you don't need to worry about, buy a jap bike. They're all the same. I like the R1 because crossplane crank and I like the ZX10 for no particular reason.

If for some reason you actually want an Aprilia, buy an RSV1000. They are fucking awesome for the price and the Rotax engine is tits. Extra points for the Factory version. The only other bike that comes close is a Ducati, but you'll spend a lot more money and have to buy an 1198 or newer to come close (in my opinion).

Very hard doesn't completely cut it. Seriously, read up on it, it's fascinating.

I'm taking the Stahlratte this winter to take my HP2 from Panama to Cartagena. Be aware that smaller charters have had issues lately... it seems Fritz the Cat (a shitty catamaran with a KLR on board) sinking made the Colombians a bit pissed at the RTW bikes being transported on boats thing.
