I just passed my SSM course which is Manitoba's carbon copy MSF course so I can (legally) ride motorcycles now! All weekend I trained on a Yamaha V Star 250 and I fell in love with that bike. I would like to buy a VStar 250 as my first bike, what do you guys think of it?

Speaking of budget I'm about to buy some parts (heavier shock spring, oem swing arm links because I hate that it was lowered, and bars that were not ripped from a 1982 Kawasaki Ltd 550) and I'm not sure what budget bars to get and what contour. I'm thinking msr carbon steel 7/8 bars with a medium lift but I'm not sure if medium is right or high. Any input? The bars the previous owner had on there were too high and when I dropped the bike they cracked the cowling.

Can you ride the xr round the world without problems that can't be solved in the middle of nowhere though? I'm genuinely asking because you certainly can't do that with the ktm or bmw, and the xr is a bit high-strung isn't it. And on an adventure bike more than 50 horsepower is overkill. All you need is enough power to spend all day around 90 mph and enough torque to accelerate well from idle. Any more than that and you'll only roost yourself into oblivion when offroad, and get tired of the headwind on road
The hp2 enduro is not all that lightweight either. 195 kilograms? Thats more than most street bikes, and with all that steel in the engine i wonder where they skimped on to make it not heavier than an SV650. Sure, the new tenere is even heavier, but with a mucj smaller engine you know that the steel frame will take a beating and be able to get back in shape after you go too far. Meanwhile, good luck fixing the carbon fiber subframe on the hp2

I've seen RTW trips on all types of bikes. I am not going to say the XRR is the ideal RTW bike in any aspect. I feel like if I was going to buy a bike to do a hefty adventure ride a 950SE would be high on the list. KTM dealers aren't everywhere but the brand is big enough now that getting parts isn't a massive hassle.

I'm not sure I agree with that. If you are doing a purely offroad adventure on very gnarly terrain then yes, having that much power is unnecessary but honestly that won't be most of your ride. 100hp may be excessive but when you have to slab it would be great and on forest service type roads it wouldn't matter because you are just cruising in 3rd or 4th.
An adventure bike will always be a compromise. There is no perfect adv bike because all adventures are different. Adventure bikes have grown into what they are because most adventure have some dirt and mostly roads.
