What's a good price to ask for my jacket on Craigslist? It originally cost $400 new, doesn't have any damage and comes with a vented back protector and chest protector inserts. Size 40US/50Euro.

Just not sure what typical Craigslist depreciation is for motorcycle jackets.

I'm the guy who badly wants a CBR250RR in the USA. I'm doing some research about importation and I found this shit outlining what you actually need to do, and this is actually really promising.

https://www.flexport.com/learn/import-vehicles-u-s/
https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/297/~/permanently-importing-a-motorcycle

Basically, if I find one that's from 1996 or older, I don't have to worry about EPA restrictions. So no worrying about having to cable tie a catalytic converter onto the end of the exhaust and pay $2000 for someone to emissions test it. There's half the problem solved.

The thing that has me slightly worried is that it unless I find one from 1991 or older (which I don't want), it has to comply with DOT requirements too. Is that just headlights, signals, and plates? What do they actually check for? This is the form you have to submit.

https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/297/~/permanently-importing-a-motorcycle

Do I just submit the form with code 2A and then do whatever is needed to make it US street legal? Worst case, I can't imagine getting it registered to be any harder than converting a dirtbike into a supermoto.

Has anyone done this? Does anyone know anyone who has done this? Am I wasting my time?
>>
>>15247509

You can find them overseas for like 2500 USD. For whatever reason, motorcycles are duty free. Shipping is probably $700. Maybe another $500-$1000 to make sure it's not going to seize on the road and get it registered. Even if the asking price is higher, you can walk away for probably $5000, and for that you're riding something that maybe 10 other people in the country have. Yes please.

MC22 starts in 1990 anyways, there's practically no difference between 1990-1993 models besides graphics and 1994+ they had to nerf the engines for new licensing laws.

That's useful to know. The MC22 is what I'm actually after. So the real trick is going to be finding a model year 1991 that isn't beat to fuck, and then buy it sight unseen from halfway across the world, get someone to put it in a crate and fly it to Texas.

Worth it.

>engine nerf
>>
>>15247736
Well Japan's license classes are 250/400/unrestricted, with 250 bikes having lower cost of ownership because they don't require mandatory biannual inspections, so when they had the big race replica craze in the late 80s and early 90s the 250 boy racer bikes started getting way the fuck out of hand.

Not much point in a 250 license restriction if they can get a 250 supersport or GP replica faster and more dangerous than a normal 400.

I know most people here in California just register their grey market bikes in South Dakota via mail. They then take the bike to the CA DMV and just do a transfer of state so you have no problems. It really depends on where you live but CA is the strictest so if you don't figure it out your way then just look into SD moto registration. As for the DOT requirements, I know all of the lights have to be DOT certified or whatever. It's a real pain in the bitch if you don't want to spend a lot money on new lights.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. As long as you have 7,500 miles on the odometer, all 49 state bikes are legal in CA. If the bike is registered in SD then it's a 49 state bike friendo. But please show which law you're breaking and how they can legally justify "taking your plate".

More like 1000-1500 miles.

Trail hours/miles are not the same as riding on the road.

Even on a DRZ, if you flog it off the limiter constantly, you should probably change the oil every 500 miles on that too.

Don't forget a WR450F is an "Off-Road" bike, so they expect it to run high RPM a lot...

If you're just putting along at 6k RPM and under most of the time... you can greatly increase the service intervals.

WR450 revs to 12k rpm, and puts out good power from 4k rpm, so not like you have to rev the thing to go anywhere.

Meh, it's all about inertia and weight in the valve train.

That Berg motor has no rev-limiter, it'll do 10k RPM or so before the valves float.

I guess push-rods are a pretty big limiting factor though... lots of extra weight to be changing direction.

Any good alternatives to wearing specialty motorcycle safety gear? OR what is the cheapest, lightest, coolest most breathable jacket I could get away with? I use my gutless motorcycle for commuting and errand running, so I don't care to spend 20 minutes getting dressed and undressed everytime I throw a leg over.

Also do they make like kevlar or abrasion resistant underwear? I'm absolutely loathe to wear special $300 florescent motorcycle pants when I commute to work but I recognize people frequently loose a lot of booty meat skidding on their asses during a crash.

I hate wearing gear, but I'm hedging my bets. How to I make the most out of the least amount of money spent or hassle involved?

The valve train is the only reliable part of the Husaberg motor...

The rods and main bearings are the worst part.

Followed by the piston and cylinder liner.

It's a shame really.

I rebuilt that 550 motor, rode it for 500 km, and decided since I didn't replace the rod, I'd let the next guy do that, and sell it while I can still profit from the bike.
