Does yours have an eletric starter?

I heard plenty of horror stories on the eletricals of the MT but the only problem I had was my headlight dying every 2 months or so, couldn't be arsed to troubleshoot it properly. Last time I replaced it in like less than 5 minutes.

It most certainly is anon. I'm not doing a great deal of riding lately, doing some other stuff with life and things. I'm pumped though, I have like 6-7 CBR parts in the mail coming my way. Anyhow, mediterranean summer is 24/7 good riding weather.

cafefags are a joke, but you can't talk about performance when you'll never be able to max out a cb400 in a canyon in your entire life.

and they do look cool, not all of them, they vary widely. but a lot just look like vintage race bikes with modern parts. and they sound like vintage race bikes. both of which are cool and fun to ride.

post your bike btw im interested in what you ride.
and maybe some lap times from some track days.

you just need to do strong consistent kicks on those, if the decomp is lumpy enough to feel the compression stroke, turn it till oyu get to it then give it a full kick.
if you flood it turn the choke off and turn it over 5 or 6 times at WOT, just dont pump the throttle at all.

hey /o/, I fairly recently purchased my first bike. I'm looking for a good pair of shoes to ride with. I'd like to have the pair of boots serve more of a purpose than just riding boots, and maybe used for light hiking/etc. I know with solid hiking boots the soles are too thick/stiff to serve as a good pair of riding boots so are there any happy mediums?

pic related is one suggestion I've found but I'd like your opinion

Not much that can go wrong with front brake pad replacement. Follow your service manual, you may have to remove the front wheel. Pay attention that no metal clips or anything of the sort falls from the caliper. You'll have to press the pistons back in probably, this is usually easy. The caliper should slide straight into the disc, no strength required. Do pay attention that there is one caliper on each side of the disc and they didn't slide both to the same side (50/50 chance of scratching your disc with the piston if that happens, 100% chance of lolnobrakes).

The chain and sprockets can be a bit fun. I have no idea how the new CB500s go but on some bikes they have a large nut over the front sprocket, something along the lines of 32mm or 36mm. This can be an absolute hell to remove. I do recommend you get your hands on the largest half-inch socket breaker bar you can find before tackling this. Also the sprocket nut holder is there for a reason, don't ignore or forget that part. Failing to put it in place means your front sprocket nut and sprocket will come off and you'll be left stranded. This is the first part of the job.

Rear sprocket replacement is easy peasy. Take this as an opportunity to check the state of your cush drive, sprocket and wheel bearings.

As for the chain, it's also usually cake. If you manage to get a chain the same length as your factory chain, you're good to go. If you get a large one, you need a chain riveter to make it shorter. ALWAYS CHECK THE SIZE OF A CHAIN before cutting it. I've been retarded in the past and cut a chain too short and fucked it up.

Chains use either a clip link, a press link, or in some cases come already closed (ie, already riveted). Clip-links are piss easy to install, however it is imperative the link faces the correct direction. I've yet to work with a press-link type of chain. Closed chains require no fiddling with, but bike disassemble is required.

tldr its cake do it.

Google for the "nameofyourbike service manual" and you're bound to find it.

It helps if you speak multiple languages (I was able to find the service manual for my 250 in Spanish and Portuguese, but no dice in English).

A service manual is a great read if you want to start doing small things on your bike. It can be intimidating at first, but you don't need all the info there — usually the "periodic maintenance" part has most of the things you need.

What? Not that guy, but very few hiking boots have the qualities needed for optimum protection, given all the myriad positions your ankle can be forced into during a crash.

Will they stop you losing a foot? Probably, sure, but you can still get plenty fucked up through lateral movement, something that biking boots deal with far better.

even taking away protection, proper riding boots have.

>stiff soles which work better when you're moving about/on the balls of your feet a lot and what not, shifting, using rear brake, they also have the little stiff bit on the top for the shifter side.

>Very few riding boots have the qualities needed for OPTIMUM protection too.

Of course, but I'd wager that pound for pound, riding boots offer better protection than the equivalent hiking boot.

At the end of the day, gear that you wear is always a compromise between comfort, price and safety, unless you're minted. It's all about doing the best you can with what you have access to.

OK /dbt/, I'll buy a baiku soon. Looks like the economy is forcing me into getting one of two SV650S's. First bike, no experience, license exam on the 30th, I'll shop around if/when I pass.

Here's my question: what all should I ask about? So far I have
-How many previous owners?
-Crashed? If so, what got hit?
-Service book?
-Where was it serviced when you owned it?
-Are the kilometers on this rewound?
-I'll be real with you, this is my first bike and I don't know what I don't know; will something on this bike, as opposed to my own stupidity, kill me?

Should I ask about VIN? I know legally I'll have to do an originality check eventually for legal reasons, can I ask about this getting done before the purchase? Is it common at all to have a bike sent to a shop for anything (check to see if it's defective) before a purchase?

Take it easy... This thing has a lot of power on the low end. It's my second bike and I'm still getting a little used to it.

and just do a complete check up on the bike,
>crashed
if it looks crashed, metal will be scratched rather than looked dented, dented means it could have been dropped rather than crashed. Ask the obvious, you should bring somebody to ride it for you and see how it rides.
>service book
Service book doesn't matter, I doubt you'll find an sv650 with a service manual out there.
>Fluids
Check oil, make sure it looks like regular oil and not bright brown. Coolant, make sure it's topped off, it's easy to change out, the only real service you'll need to check out is the valve adjustment. That's done at 15k, if it hasn't been done you could try to negotiate 200-300 dollars off.
>kilometer rewound
Not an issue if you check out the title and miles on the bike, it should be pretty obvious if it's been rewound, it's a computer so it's really hard to do and the dash would probably looked all jacked up if someone tried getting to it.
CHECK FORKS!
CHECK TIRES!
CHECK TIRE PRESSURE!
CHECK CHAIN (too much slack or too tight, and also if it's been cleaned or not)

Check fork for leaks, and also if they're bent or out of angle. Check the dust seals for cracks or holes, etc. Sit on the bike and move it forward then hamfist the brakes, do it several times just in case the owner wiped the forks before you came to check it out.

Check tires for any cracks, holes, punctures, general wear. You don't want to leave with a bike that will break halfway home, or kill you on the way home.

dipstick thing? the choke? what are you talking about my main dude
>>
>>15108173

Not particularly. I just looked at the FZ6 Fazers. They're okay, nothing all that particularly interesting about them it seems.

>>15108224

This is not my first bike. My first bike was a Ninja 250, then I went to a CBR900RR, then to a VFR750F. The VFR is too heavy around town (I live in NYC) for me. It's a shame, it's perfect in every other regard.

My current under seat loadout for a weekend long trip:
>spanners and allen keys
>spark plugs and spark plug socket (if they're getting old)
>set of spare lights wrapped in a cloth
>flat & philips screwdriver
>ductape, cable ties and WD40
>water and some highly caloric food bars
>basic medkit

Anything you would add or remove?

Oil cap that doubles as a dipstick.
>>
>>15107112
at least you can still wave with your left hand while riding at 5 km/h
>>
>>15108242
>>15108264

It's very upright. Interesting. Anything else I should keep my eyes out for?

If I don't go for a multi cylinder naked, then I'm going for a multi cylinder classic style motorcycle. Hopefully something light and doesn't have carbs (very tired of cleaning them as a freelance mechanic)

h-hot

I think he's talking about the dipstick and cap for oil measure things
>>
>>15108325

Are there any summer gloves that make the RIGHT compromises?
All I can find are ones with paper-thin palms and knuckle protectors, which is moronic. The most important goddamn part of the glove the the palm! That's what's going to whack the tarmac under load if anything goes wrong, the knuckles only need to survive dragging under the weight of your hand (maybe 1kg), the palm needs to survive and cushion under potentially your entire bodyweight. Plus, vented palms do nothing, your palms are busy gripping things.
Armoured palm, vented top, minimal knuckle protectors beyond abrasion pads. Why is this so hard?

I will keep on petting frirnds Doge
it's really soft and cute

Only cheap China tier gloves have paper palms and big knuckle guards. Try looking at some decent (expensive) gloves.

Kek, i've ben out all day, i wish i had gotten some time for myself...
>>
>>15108475
Even nice Dainese summer gloves skimp on the palms. You get one or two layers of leather, and MAYBE a little slip of foam, but that's it. No sliders, no proper scaphoid protection. The only 'summer' gloves that have proper palm protection I can find are just regular full leather gloves with cursory worthless pinholes between the fingers.

Had my first riding lessons today
>stalled bike once
>had a talk with a guy at a bike shop who brought his wife's gsr600 for service
>lost driving instructor once on a red light
>wasn't allowed to overtake cars going 80km/h
>got really excited when riders waved back
>cam didn't record better parts of the ride because Batterie died

It was an okay ride I guess, got 1,5 hours of footage, might post some boring webms when I have some spare time

Good night dbt

If you can't get a girl there are plenty of homo gloryholes advertised on craigslist. I'm not gay either bro but to be honest you can't feel the difference.

I just took my first half of the class required for an endorsement in Florida, it was my first time riding a bike and I think I did decent!

Just imagine being that instructor
>"Honey, today i had a new student."
>"He stalled the bike at every light and hesitated to overtake some cyclists who rode on the street, we sat there for 10 minutes, people honked!"
>"Once he was greeted by some motorcyclist and this retard almost fell down because he let go of the bars to wave back and couldnt hold the bike with one hand."
>"Then we went to the shop to give the rented bike back and he chatted up some poor guy who was there to get his Busa repaired.
>"The best thing is he filmed all of this shit with some chinese knockoff Gopro."

>>
>>15108700
Not yet, but after riding there 250's I'm thinking something between that and a 600
>>
>>15108715
I know, so I hope my other hand gets better within a week
>>
>>15108718
What kind of bike are you aiming for?
A 600cc cruiser is probably not too much to handle for you, but a 600cc Sportsbike definitly is.
Also, don't only go for displacement but for the bike that fits your riding style.
>>
>>15108730
Just get some free homosex, m8. It's cool as long as you're the top.
>>
/o/ how much do you pay for new tires? A motorcycle shop wanted $60 in labor to replace my front tire. I'm not going to do it myself but that seems like a lot.
>>
>>15108757
Speaking from experience?
>>
>>15108878
thats pretty typical pricing for shops
figure 80-100/hr for labor
