Should I take an MSF course before I turn 21 and get a license, or would it be easier to get the license after I turn 21?

Never buy a drift camera guys.
>>14878305
You get a discount if you do it before you're 21, at least in California. The only restrictions is no freeway riding and no night riding.
>>14878291
Fucking dogs. Scum of the earth.
>>14878313
will those restrictions be lifted automatically after I turn 21?
Or do I have to do some extra stuff down the line?
>>14878322
They're automatically lifted when you're 21.
>>14878322
dude def take the course. Its actually pretty fun
I was asking about cornering and braking during a turn last night, and someone linked a 90 minute video about it last night. I watched the whole thing.
Tonight I rode on the edge of my tire for the first time.
Felt so good. I know a crapton of you do that like it's nothing, but I don't care. Thanks /dbt/.

There's seriously no reason not to take an MSF course. You learn a lot.
>but it's expensive!
So are motorcycles.
>>14878322
Course is pretty good. Took one myself, you don't have to do the DMV riding test if you pass the course on top of it. If you've never ridden before, it'll also really help you get the basics down so you're not stalling out at stop signs and shit. Overall, I'd recommend it for sure. Also helps on insurance rates a bit, and if you buy from a dealership, they may give a discount as well.

You should absolutely trust yourself to a twig of a rear axle.

Fucking people, when will they learn to leash the damn mutt or keep it in a fenced zone? I have hit 2 dogs in the 6 years I've been riding, one crash landed me in the hospital and the fucking stupid dog got up and tried to bite me as I lay dazed on the ground.
>>14878649
Well what else would you put in a holster? A sandwich?
>>14878642
Personally, i like it. Sounds pretty nice all in all. But again, I don't have much to compare it to unless I wanna compare it to my cousins straight pipes on his Harley. Fuck I hate the way that thing sounds.
And sure man, I could go for a ride in a bit to give you a bit of the sound if you don't mind hearing it through a shitty phone mic.
>>14878655
MSF taught me something about that, though there is the implicit assumption that you notice the dog first. Slow down, wait until the dog is close enough and ready to bite, then accelerate. Catches them off guard and keeps you from spilling out like that. Though in that case, I think it was just a stupid dog who panicked and tried to run home.

They're good for basic riding, but the profile is shit if you're gonna be going fast.
A buddy of mine drag races and loves them because they're cheap and have plenty of grip in a straight line, but they're absolute trash if you're taking turns.
took 7 hour ride today to really get started on breaking in my girl. 250 miles, most of them curves. here we are around mile 15

about three hours of riding up the coast later (which i regret not getting any pictures of), i was getting pretty tired and was looking for a way to cut over to the slab for the long journey home. i spied a town called "plantation" which was 4 miles away and figured i could stop for a smoke and a bottle of water. come up on this and turn right the fuck around and keep going. not about to take a 4 mile dirt trail to a town called plantation.
>>14878679
For me, those tips wouldn't have helped. I've had dogs chase me before, but it's different when they bolt out in front of you.
Dog one
>riding through town
>come to a roundabout with a hedge
>as I clear the hedge a dog runs out of it
>can't swerve because to swerve behind the dog I would have to run straight into the curb
>brake but still hit the dog, though only going about 10mph
>drop the bike, dog gets up and runs away
Dog two
>riding down a twisty country road at a 6/10 pace
>come around an S and there's a dog standing there in the road, not moving
>swerve left to go around it
>it runs right in front of me
>begin to swerve right
>it runs right at me
>hit it at 35mph or so while hard on the front brake
>bike flips over dog
>flings me off
>slides onto my arm
>slide off the road and into a ditch
>lay there just saying what the fuck
>shoulder dislocated
>clavicle broken
>dog limps over to me and tries to fucking bite me
>swat it away with my good arm
>a second motorcyclist rides up to the curve, sees my crashed bike, stops and renders aid
>chases the aggressive injured dog away by hitting it with his helmet

i ride another 50 miles or so and on a hunch (no cell reception or way to tell where the fuck i am going) head towards a road i have heard of on the internet, of all places. it's 47 miles with no service, but i'm still sitting on a couple gallons so i power through it. road feels like it hasnt been maintained in about 40 years. gravel in every corner, passing through trailer parks, nearly getting run off the road by cars. no fun was had, until i break through to this clearing in the picture.
after this the road opens up into the most amazing 50+mph sweepers for what seems like forever.
i left home sitting upright and going the speed limit and blasted back into the city doing 30 over, hanging off the side of the bike with one hand on the controls in rush hour traffic. fun ride, friends. i'm tired af

It's not. It has a cover that leads into it. It cleans up the lines. Instead the aftermarket mufflers have a tiny little 300cc engine exhaust pipe running into a muffler just as big as the stock one, which ruins the lines and looks worse.

Most would say try to get used, and it occurred to me why. Owning a new ~300cc bike is going to get pretty boring for you once you learn more about riding. Not saying it's bad, but for a new bike I'd like at least the power of a 600~750cc bike.

why is utah such a mecca for literally all outdoor sports? if there's something you can do outdoors, utah provides for it as well as any place in the world -- except extreme-altitude mountaineering. but unless you're dead set on trying to haul around an oxygen tank, utah has you covered for that too, only minus the extreme altitudes.
only catch is it's infested by mormons.

If you're talking about when you are riding on the finger part I didn't think that was as bad as the very beginning when you drop in, there's another trail called Grafton Mesa near there that's similar, you sit at the top then drop in and there's a crazy sheer drop, but after you get moving you stop thinking about it and just focus on riding. You would get worked anywhere on either trail if you went off.

Only had my strom for a week and love it so far. It's my first road bike though and totally different to my klx250. I was looking at klr650 but the strom was close, cheap and had great reviews.
tl;dr: just buy one faggot.

versys because it is just an amazingly capable platform for anything you would ever ask of it on the street. more than enough power without being overbearing, eminently flickable even at highway speeds, and unflinchingly composed in the corners. rides like a bike 200 pounds less than it is. due disclosure, i own a versys and shill for it unrelentingly -- but only because it is an amazing bike. i don't know anything about derestriction because i come from the land of the free.

My shitbag landlord changed the parking rules at my apartment so I can't double park my car and bike in what used to be a dedicated space. How do the rest of you who live in apartments store your bikes?

i pay $285 per month to not park in a car parking spot. it's bullshit but the cheapest rate i can get in my area. the silver lining is that i only own a bike, so i don't have to deal with any of that bullshit.

Here's a little of it. I think it sounds pretty nice.

That's fucking insane. I would never live in a complex that charged that much.

Motorcycles can be a slippery slope
Hey guys, I've been wanting to get a dual sport so bad. More specifically the klr650.
However, I am only 5'7 with 30 inch inseam. The highest I've ridden was a 32.6 inch seam on an r6 and I learned how to tippietoe just fine or lean and flat foot with one foot.
I could probably ride the klr650 and just avoid stopping or flatfoot if I basically hanged my ass off it at stops. However there is always those sketchy situations where the slope causes your feet to not touch the ground.
Thoughts?

i live in an area with one of the highest costs of living in the world. everything i pay is more or less par for the course and ironically $285/mo is extremely competitive. my next cheapest alternative which is two blocks away is $400/mo for a motorcycle parking spot. no cameras, no gate, no parking attendant. my garage at least has a gate and one solitary camera watching the entrance.
>>14878312
eye witness testimony aint too bad either

>$400/mo for a motorcycle parking spot. no cameras, no gate, no parking attendant
I don't care if you're in Manhattan; that's horse shit.
>>14879442
Do you live in NYC or somewhere stupid?
>>14879134
Where's here?
>>14879453
>>14879451
san francisco. almost as, or maybe more stupid. and yeah, it's horse shit. they gouge the prices just because they can. there's no way in fucking hell the upkeep of a parking garage costs $400 per person per month. just pure profiteering on a captive market
Halp /dbt/!
I need good, waterproof ADVBoots that don't fucking leak. I just got my Sedicis all comfy and broken-in, went for a ride in DSM tonight, and my right foot was wet as fuck by the time I got home.
On a side note, a mostly-empty city on a drizzly Monday night is comfymode to ride through. If you can trigger the lights, anyway.
>>14879475
I was going to ask if it was SF, but SF has enough sprawl to generally make parking bikes less of an issue.
I can't fucking imagine living there, and I lived in Seoul where a 120sq ft apartment costs $950 a month.
I'm new to biking, is this a good deal?

I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but i have never worked on a motorcycle before, any tips?

Real as your dubs m8. Some are triggered by changes in a magnetic field by some wizardrywires in the pavement. Some are triggered by little optical sensors of varying types. About a third of the ones here in Des Moines won't pop for my DR650.

Sounds pretty nice actually. Give me a second, can't really do a lot of revving here, it being so late and what not. Let me see about going to a parking lot or something.
