I'm in SE9, its a bit if a shithole so that goes some way to explaining it.

You've had the licence quite a while now though so its going down pretty quick, I've only had mine for about 6 months now.

Its pretty stupid though, if I do quotes on like 2.0 turbo mondeos its like £1200 or less....

if your car has been in an accident it dosent affect insurance prices, at least I dont think

Depends on the island I guess. IMO, Oahu fucking sucks. I'd much rather be in the mainland. There's no track to hit up, and there's only one road worth driving on (and two others that are OK but not worth driving to if you're not close to them). And yeah, the drive around the island is kind of nice... save for the traffic clusterfuck. Not much of a fan of the autocross scene here either, only because the courses are too small and there are too many people - so an hour of standing around in the sun yields just two minutes total of seat time... nah.

I've often found it cheaper to say I keep the car on the road at home.

Insurance companies are pretty smart, if you store the car on your driveway then whoever wants to steal that car knows for a fact the keys for it are in the house.

As for garages they assume that if you have a house fire your garage, in turn your car, will burn down too. Pretty shitty this one though, garages have to built firesafe because you'll be storing a box full of petrol in there....

But yeah, give this a go on some quotes, see if it helps you guys any.

I have a question.

I'm spending the summer in the US. I'm a 28yo EU citizen.
I'm planning to buy an older car while I'm over there, then bring it home with me.
Most of my time will be split between NYC, and California.

What figures am I looking at regarding insurance and road tax?
Is there a particular state where insurance and tax is cheaper and I don't have to deal with smog or whatever?

Unless you're bringing a lot of money over, the only classic car that you can get for cheap won't make that drive, they aren't dirt cheap like many Europeans think.

If you're only gonna be here for a summer, idk if any place will accept you, but when I had a 67 vw, I could get classic full coverage for $300 a year, and I was 21 then.

Nowhere most likely. I'm just traveling for the summer.

>You do realize it's a several days drive from NYC to call?
I'll take it slow. I'm not in much of a hurry.
If I don't buy a car in NY, I'll take the bus or whatever.

>Unless you're bringing a lot of money over, the only classic car that you can get for cheap won't make that drive, they aren't dirt cheap like many Europeans think.

I'm thinking somewhere around $6,000. I've seen some 6cyl Mustangs around that number. But I'd go up to $30,000 and for the right one, even more. All that matters is that it starts and drives well, and matching numbers.
I can do the bodywork and upholstery myself when I get home.

I'm planning to re-sell the car once I get home so its likely going to be a safe bet like a 50's pickup, SL Mercedes or an early Mustang. Maybe even a Porsche 912 or E-Type.

That's just what insurance tends to cost with ICBC, and it's a government monopoly so there's no other choices.

You also can't insure multiple cars under an umbrella, each one has to be seperately insured. The end result is that if you have 4 or 5 cars, you either only keep insurance on one or two at a time, or you're probably spending 7-8k a year on insurance.

no, everyone over the age of i think 28 pay less, some people (18-35) have their insurance on their sportcars written on a 65 year old lady because the insurance is so cheap for them

Guess it helps never having a car accident.
>>
>>14830930
Sounds like you're getting ripped off.

I'm the same age, in FL (in the city, too), and pay less for both an RX-7 and CX-5 combined.

Maybe Mustangs get totaled more or something, idk, but that's a huge difference.
>>
>>14831057

I forgot my full coverage but I have $300k property and $100k personal which jacked up the price. I might reduce those next period.
>>
>>14831078
Yeah I mean, what are the chances you'll do 300k of property damage?

If you do, may as well file bankruptcy and insurance was probably never going to save you anyway.

I live with my parents and am on their plan so I pay nothing. The family plan we have is super cheap because we are all good drivers who never are at fault in an accident or get tickets. The plan is liability only. We drive shitboxes mostly so if we do get in an accident that we are at fault on, the repairs aren't that expensive.
