Can I tow 1300 pounds behind my Jeep Cherokee without a transmission cooler?

I'm only going to be on the road for two days, and I'm not sure whether I need one.
>>
>>14719724
should be fine. I towed ~2000lbs behind my grand with 600 miles with no issues.
>>
>>14719724
Absolutely
>>
>>14719744

OP here.

I should have mentioned that my Jeep is a '98 with the 4.0L engine and 2WD only.

I'll be going about 900 miles, and someone said I absolutely need a transmission cooler.

I don't have a towing package or anything -- just an aftermarket hitch.

What year is your Grand Cherokee?

Thanks for the feedback.

If any other folks with towing experience want to chime in, feel free.
>>
Dude i'm pretty sure the towing capacity for your truck is like 3 times that. Youll be fine
>>
>>14719724
Yes, without the tow package you're rated to like 3000 pounds. With it's 5000 but I'd be afraid to tow that much with how shitty Cherokee brakes are even if the trailer had its own.
>>
>>14719775
You can do it, just leave it in 3rd and don't use overdrive.
Using overdrive is what would create the heat you need a transmission cooler for, sub 1:1 heat ratios make lots of heat
>>
>>14719850

Thanks for the feedback. I read the manual a few times, and it said I needed transmission cooling for loads over 5,000 pounds, but I wasn't sure about anything under that. The wording is somewhat ambiguous.

>>14719863

My transmission is automatic, so I'm guessing that by "3rd" you mean "overdrive."
>>
>>14719890
>so I'm guessing that by "3rd" you mean "overdrive."
No he doesn't you fucking tard, he means 3rd. As in the section that says "3" not "D"
>>
>>14719953

>No he doesn't you fucking tard

Damn, bro.

You sound like the Comic Book Guy of the auto tech world.

Untwist your panties.
>>
>>14719993
>get explicitly told to not use overdrive and to use third gear only
>lol by third you mean overdrive right?

Your original question was fair and legitimate, that one is you being a retard with no comprehension.

Not him, but I agree, you are retarded as fuck.

...and apparently a sensative little snowflake as well.

stock radiator and cooler should be more then enough.

keep an eye on the temp gauge if it goes over regular operating temp start slowing down or put a cooler on

Manual transmissions don't have overdrives anon. Why would you think 3rd meant OD?

>>14719993
>>14720013
Stop that. You said something stupid and got called out on it. At least he still answered your question as well, that's better than you normally get on 4chan when you say something that dumb.
>>
>>14719775
Cherokee or Grand Cherokee?
They are very different.
You should be fine if it's on flat land, but if you're in the mountains, you do NEED a cooler.
>>
>>14720042

>Why would you think 3rd meant OD?

I'm pretty slow.

Please be more understanding.

>that's better than you normally get on 4chan when you say something that dumb.

It's nice to know that you aim low.
>>

in what world?
>>
>>14720042
>Manual transmissions don't have overdrives
Yeah, the highest gear is always 1:1, right?
>>
>>14720045

It's a regular Cherokee, not a Grand.

Swing and a miss.
>>
>>14720055
Then you're rated for ~3500 lbs, IIRC.
You should be fine, but it wouldn't hurt to have a cooler.
What rear axle? If you've got a d35, I'd take it easy with that much load, but I've always had 8.25's, so take that worth a grain of salt.
>>
>>14720051
>>14720050
Well then. The way it was always explained to me was that OD was some fancy Automatic only black magic and not a normal gear like 5th or 6th in a manual.
>>
>>14720071
No. Please attempt to understand the subjects you're talking about before you try to tell others they're wrong.
>>
>>14720082
Yes. Please attempt to stop being a faggot.
>>
>>14720082
I'm sorry anon.
>>
>>14720066

>What rear axle?

I'm not sure.

When you say "take it easy," what do you mean?

I won't be going through the mountains or anything.
>>
>>14720050
>>14720051
To be fair, they're not normally called overdrives in a manual transmission, just the next gear up.
>>
>>14720091
Do you have ABS?
Yes: dana 35 - weaker
No: Chry 8.25 - stronger

By take it easy, I just mean don't drive like a jackass when you're towing that much. i.e., fast takeoffs, slamming on the brakes.. just general towing etiquette, really.

This may help if you can take a gaze under the jeep
>>
>>14720109

I don't have anti-lock brakes.

Thanks for the tip.

I'm not a fast driver, either.
>>
>>14720129
Sure, glad to help.
>>
> towing with an automatic
hahaha hahaha
>>

Why are you laughing?
