How important is it to strictly follow the manufacturers recommend fuel octane
My car is supposed to run 89 but sometimes I put 91 or 87 is this bad
>>
>>14696367

No.

/thread
>>
I put 87 in my 335i

Doesn't matter

Do fuel injector cleaners really fucking matter?
>>
>>14696394
they seem to make my shit run better when I start having carburetor issues but it could also be entirely placebo
>>
>>14696406
kek
>>
>>14696367
If you're running factory maps, you won't have any permanent issues. Your car will just perform like a vegetarian athlete.

Don't be cheap, follow recommendations.
>>
>>14696423
>vegetarian athlete

kek
>>
>>14696367
Don't be a cheap bastard and put in at least 89
>>
>>14696367
If you have an older car put the proper one in, I can tell you you'll have carbon build up and you have a choice between being cheap or getting knock.
>>
>>14696367
you can always go HIGHER.

NEVER go lower than recommended.

What is Octane Rating? What is Knocking?
What is Pre Det?
>>
>>14696391
>I put 87 in my 335i
Fucked idiot. With 87 very good if you have 1/2 of maximum power. You have to use 98 for maximum power.

>Do fuel injector cleaners really fucking matter?
If you add it every 10000 km.
>>
>>14697472
Get out of here with your commie octane ratings.
>>
>>14697472
98 is Australian..

87 is equivalent MON to RON
>>
>>14696934
Lower than required* Recommended doesn't mean shit.
>>
I put 93 in all my vehicles.

More expensive means more better. Always. You'are're welcome.
>>
Use low octane for economy cars. High octane for high compression/FI engines. 89 is just a retarded pointless compromise. I don't know why manufacturers do it.

>87

Woah, in what country do octane ratings go that low? I'm guessing the US?

Here in Aus I tend to run 98 in all my vehicles, Forester GT and Subaru's in general do not agree with shitty fuel, my older bikes would run on just about anything, but i've found when pulling them down for rebuilds shit tends to be cleaner if I just run 98.

>>14696394

This shit can work fucking miracles, especially in older vehicles that have been sitting for a while.
>>
my xc90 gets much better fuel economy when it's running on 93 and with the better gas mileage it's cheaper to run it on 93 than 87...Wtf how

One is RON, MON, and another is AKI you fucking retard.

>>

>>14698081

Neat, didn't know that.
>>
>>14696367
You should try to put in your recommended octane rating or higher. Newer cars can adjust, older ones not so much.
>>
>>14696367

That's petro can in Canada, I only use that 94 octane the yellow one, anyone else use it ?

Pic related the pump shown in OPs pic got to love the ultra 94 octane
>>
>>14697546
Yes, required by your engines particular Kompression.

However, hopefully your car manufacturer actually die their work properly and the recommended is the required.

In any case, you are correct, never go lower than your engine requires. How would the average Person know what their engine required? The manufacturer recommends it.
>>
Putting 91 in a low compression engine(87) won't do anything but waste fuel. Higher compression fuels won't be entirely used when compressed in a lower compression car.

On the flip side, putting 87 in a high compression car can limit how well your car runs. Your ECU will pull timing to adjust for the lower octane fuel, it will run, but not at full chat.
>>
>>14696367
In modern cars, the ECU uses knock sensors to retard timing if the fuel is bad/lower octane than it's supposed to be. This means it won't cause any damage, but your mileage might be worse and you might get worse performance.

It's best to put in what the manufacturer recommends/requires. Generally, putting in a higher octane rating won't affect anything (and won't make your car perform better either).

Cars with high compression or turbos/superchargers will usually recommend or require premium gas.

>>14696391
Your gas mileage and performance would be better with premium.
>>
>>14698270
Yeah I use it in my IS350. Used to exclusively use Shell 91 (I liked their detergents), but stopped after I started getting a sulfur smell under WOT.
>>
>>14698330

In the last month it was less then 1$ a litre was decent for awhile
>>
>>14698072
Because it was made to you dunce.

Higher octane = more boom
More boom = more go
More go = better value
>>
>>14696391
>I put 87 in my 335i
Idiot. 91 minimum in my 335. Probably why mine is way better than yours.
>>
>>14698476
Well I live in Kitchener, which is about an hour away from Toronto. 87 has been around $0.88/L for the past month or so. 94 hovers between $1-1.10. Still a really good price compared to a few years ago.
>>
>>14698498

lol shitpost/ 10
>>
>>14696394
Think of it like this. A quart of cleaner is like 8-10$, a gallon of gas is like 2.25$ I'd rather pay 10$ on gas instead of a cleaner
>>
my moms bf blew two Subaru wrx engines putting 87 in a 91 required car.

don't fucking do it.

>wanting worse performance for stoplight races anyways.
it's like you don't even belong on /o/
