What's your opinion on the Honda civics?
Do you like them, hate them why?
>>
i think it's an excellent car for a woman to drive.
>>
>>14682729
I love Civics. Civics are great. However I avoid recommending models favored by the Hondatards that are cancer, so I refuse to recommend an EF hatch, an EG, or EK Civic.
>>
>>14682729

Here it's one of two people who drive civics:

Beaners who rice them out then sell them and buy another civic to rice out, repeat.

And people who want a good gas mileage cheap shitbox.
>>
>>14682749
This for me as well.

I daily an 8th gen EX-L sedan.

It's okay. I appreciate the reliability and good mileage, but it's a terribly boring car to drive. Plan on hanging onto it for a bit longer until I start living closer to work.
>>
>>14682777
>drives EX-L
>complains it's boring
The Si exists for people like you.
>>
>>14682729
honest reply from a man in the professional auto repair trade for a bit now.

hondas are over rated, and over priced. Yeah sure, the cars are OK.

But really, getting yourself a little corolla or toy sedan of some kind is much more reliable and in my personal opinion, designed better.

if you're in a honda and your timing belt snaps on the highway - lol engine swap or new car time.

in your little toyota? pull to side of road, get it back home, spend 3 hrs with a jack stand, floor jack, basic wrenches and a crank puller tool and you slap a new $13 timing belt back on there and you're all set. plus, imo the location of the fasteners under the hood are pleasingly spaced (not the latest ones tho x\) and no weird shit like honda brake calipers or what not.
>>
>>14682789
This is a fine piece of counter Honda culture. I want to know more.

Save me before I buy an accord or Acura TL.
>>
>>14682749
>>14682759
But those are the best ones

Anything 2006+ looks like cancer
>>
>>14682786
I ended up with the car more because it was convenient than anything else.

I used to daily my Prelude, but the 100 miles a day and winter weather were starting to take a toll on the car. The Civic was bought new by my grandpa, who passed away. My grandma didn't need two cars, so she sold it to me at a really good price. Now I'm hanging onto it until I move closer to work (down to 20 miles a day), then I'll get something more fun to daily. I might keep the Civic anyway though, because it's the only practical car I own.
>>
>>14682831
Those are also the same cars where if you try to get into the enthusiast scene, you wind up surrounded by Hondatards who believe Vtec is a gift from god.
I recommedn 7th gen models often.
>but much front struts. The RSX was based on that model Civic and did well enough. The problem is the D17 engine, which you can swap out for a K-series with relative ease using OEM parts
>>
>>14682821
Hondas are perfectly reliable, some models are just riced taxed.

Avoid auto trannies on 6-7th gen V6 accords
>>
Only good part about them is the gearbox and the CRX
Otherwise you can always find a much more fun, more reliable, or easier to work on car for less. Only reason they're popular in car culture is because some guy choosing the cars in Fast and Furious decide to cheap out on one of them
>>
I daily a 91 DX hatch. Just hit 220k miles and starting to hear some rattling and squeaking in the transmission.

I get people rolling down their windows and asking me if Im selling. But no, my family's had this car since 2006 and I will just keep putting money and parts into it because that's how its gonna be.
>>
>>14682729
here in NZ they are almost universally frowned upon, personally, i think they are great
>>
>>14682729
I 80s and 90s Honda in general
>>
>>14682871
7th gen civics have shit suspension, RSXs do as well. Actually do some research next time.
>>
Finding the cure for cancer is nothing compared to finding a clean, unmolested Civic from the Initial D/NFSU2 era.
>>
Great cheap car to learn on till you get off your P's, I wouldn't keep it after though.
>>
>>14683968
yeah they definitely dont get respect here.

its a shame they are all thrashed too, would love to own a decent civic as a runabout car.

I test drove pic related a few months ago. Stock, 5-speed, 90k miles. I thought I loved Civics. Now I'm not so sure.

> 1. high prices
because muh honda resale value and muh honda fanboys

> 2. high insurance rates
(I'm 25 with a clean record btw) because muh mexican thieves

> 3. disappointing driving experience
I anticipated the D16's gutlessness, but the sloppy shifter, mushy brakes, and soft, slow, and numb steering were a huge disappointment.

So an EM1 fixes all that, right? No. It exacerbates 1 and 2, while taking away the only two benefits of the hatch: efficiency and practicality. And they take premium fuel. For 160 hp.

As a DD, Civics don't make sense on paper. From a performance standpoint, they're even worse. You have to swap engine$ and other part$ to get performance of any kind, on top of the price of a clean, rust-free example. At this point you're $10k into a compact economy car that just might be in the 14s, still costs a small fortune to insure, and has the attention of every beaner gang member in town.

What's the point?
>>
It's true that basemodel civics are eco cars and they're driven by people who think they're driving a Type R but that just goes to ruin the reputation of the Type R. In actuality the b16 is a great engine and Type R model is a legitimate sports car.

Got one of the edgy euro 8th gen civics, 1.8 i-vtec SE

I like it, looks cool as fuck (in my opinion at least, only in black though), and being 19 It's probably the most fun car I can get insured on

Only got it 2 weeks ago, but It feels incredibly modern for a 10 year old car, my normie friends thought it was brand new
>>
>>14685007
this is what i meant in my earlier post :D Hondas in general are "OK" in my book, but having worked on shit tons of hondas and toyotas i tell family and freinds to just get a corolla or an avalon. corollas can have some nice sharp braking if you stay on top of cleaning and adjusting the drums - if rear discs then even better. Parts are a little bit cheaper and they generally dont have every asshat on CL asking way too much JUST BECAUSE it's a "honda"
>>
>>14682729
i'd only have mk1 civic or a crx
mk3 is ok ek9 is pushing it
anything after that is just no
>>
>>14682729
They're nice little cars for building on a budget and, in some cases, don't look all that bad.
However, there is a stigma around them that makes them loose their appeal really quick. All the standing, rice exhaust, and "VTACH JUST KIiICKED IIIIInNN, YO", bullshit is retarded.
>>
>>14682789
what about the Corolla e90 ?
I'm looking for something ubiquitous that I can grenade with a turbo charger
then just buy another engine second hand and bolt the old custom manifolds on

They make do. If would've been much better had the struts been angled instead of vertical. They fixed that on 2006+ cars though.

Saying the 2001-2005 Civics are shit though because of the struts is hondatard-tier retarded. Everyone uses struts. Sorry your favorite boy racer project gave up the double wishbones to join the cool kids

Top kek. I can get a decent used gen 7/8/9 honda for well under 12k at under 50k mi i cant say the same for toyocucks in my area the cheapest i can get decent is a 6k mr2 while all corollas, 50k-100k mi, for around 9k to 13k and up depending on year. 6k baseline on 90s ones even on Craigslist. Only people in my area of nc that drive toyotas are retired, rich, or really poor and likely bought out of state.

I would take the slight chance of a timing belt breaking on a honda over the archaic electrical systems that toyota continues to cling on to. It may be reliable but its also hard to troubleshoot in this day and age.

Plus, doing a headgasket on a honda civic? 2 hour job maximum, ive done a head gasket on a civic in 45 minutes flat before.

Bullshit the fastener locations are better, you try getting behind the intake manifold one on a corrolla or camry and then try a d16 honda its so much easier. Oh and enjoy your 3 speed trans on the corrolla.

I'd say it's a rear lowering spring of shit quality for an early 90's Civic.

High compression engines (i.e any naturally aspirated engine with decent power) pretty much have to be interference engines.
