What do you suggest /o/
>>
>>14672160
something safe and easy that you can grow into, nothing too crazy. for this I usually recommend a suzuki hayabusa. Preferably turbocharged if you are a little bigger (over 190 lbs).
>>
>>14672163
What year? How much do you think I would have to spend?

As new as possible that you can afford. if you are worried about stability then I also suggest one with an extended swingarm and tribal decals.
>>
get some heavy bike like hayabusa or zx-12r as light bikes are not stable at high speeds. And dont listen to fags saying 600cc sport bike is max for 1st bike cuz you sell it and get 1000cc or more bike in next season if you buy one.
>>
>>14672203
I was also very interested in a light frame bike, I do see my self going 70 mph max could that a problem?

something like this

Get something that doesn't hurt the wallet and your spirit too much if you drop it., 'cause you probably will.
Suzuki GS500, Honda CB500, the list could go on.
Fairly quick, quite easy to maintain and affordable. Flog it for a year or two and get your dreambike, mate.

>good idea for a first bike

Pick one.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to have a fast bike as your first.

You're learning on it. You don't NEED 120+hp, you don't NEED ridiculous brakes. Learn how to use the power and the brakes properly on a bike that's appropriate for your skill level before you go turning things up to 11.

You can always upgrade later. Unless you're financing (which you shouldn't be, just saiyan), you're not bound to one bike for the rest of your life. There will always be a bike out there you want that you don't own yet, so don't try and convince yourself you need to "grow into" a bike because that's bullshit.
>>
Don't get a Hayabusa or older 1000, you'll outgrow the power really fast. I recommend a zx14 or one of the new 200hp litrebikes. Theres no way to learn throttle control or hard braking with less than 200 horsepower.

If you dont have 15k, maybe get an older gsxr1000, but save the money and skip anything with ABS or traction control cos real riders don't need that anyway.
>>
>>14672160

I got my license last year and my first bike was a 2008 Kawasiki Ninja (250 cc) that I bought from a friend for $600. It was a good starter bike - I recommend it. I especially liked how light it was and it's good turning radius.
>>
a time machine so you get your first bike at age 4 like a real rider
>>
>>14672840

2000 Ninja, not 2008.

I just picked up my first bike in November, picked up a 2006 Suzuki Katana 600 and I love it.
>>
FZ09 is cool if you like dat naked look
>>
I can't believe some of the shit im reading here, do not get a 600 for your first bike. Get a 250 maybe 400 at the very most, im not saying jumping straight onto a 600 is a death sentence, im saying you will learn far more and become a far more competent rider starting with a small bike and learning how to conserve momentum through the bends than someone who buys a 600 flies down the straights and then slows to a walking pace everytime they get to a corner knowing they can just accelerate straight back up to speed afterwards.
>>
>>14672967
Not the best training, since no clutch and backwards gears (the Cub has backwards gears everywhere in the world?)
>>
>>14673811
Also depends on the bike, my Katana is not super jumpy (I think 12.5ish quarter?) But a CBR600RR probably wouldn't be a good first bike.
>>
People have been saying the Scout 60 is a good starter bike
>>
>>14672160

Suzuki GS500F, it's cheap to insure, gets great mileage, and tons of fun.

Most people will tell you to get something like a Honda CB500, but those are newer, and more expensive.

Can a sumo (preferably) or dual sport be had for under $3000? There's a 2009 KLX250SF on CL near me listed at that, 400 miles. On the occasion that I find a WR250 or DRZ400 on CL it's ~$7,000.

Something like a GS500 or 600-800cc cruiser would be cool but I get hard at the thought of the fun I could have on a dual sport.
>>
>>14673940
I bought my KLX300 for $900

Pretty sure the WR250R and DRZ don't even cost that much new

There are a few bikes I wouldn't recommend to beginners. FZ 09 is so incredibly easy to wheelie. At least with other sports bikes you sort of need to thrash the throttle to lift the wheel, or clutch pop with 600ccs. The fz09 is the sort of bike that will lift up from accelerating a little too hard during an overtake.

Would definitely recommend as a second bike, because they're fun as fuck.
>>
>>14673940
DRZ400 or WR250 might be intimidating first bikes since they're so tall.

That's what I was thinking as I'm 5'10. DR350, XT350 or KLX250 sounds a bit better but it's hard to find anything older reasonably priced near me (MA area). $2000 firm for a '91 DR350 w/ 60miles on rebuilt engine. lelno.
>>
>>14672160
Anything with a well known name. The same venerable GS500, CBxxx, Bandit, Ninja etc. It'll be easier to sell, when you figure what you really want.

Get another credit card.

You're gonna drop that thing.

Bikes are huge money dump. Get the one you like most that you can afford to maintain.
>>
>>14672230
Definitely gonna want 1000cc bike for that, a 600 and lower is just gonna be uncomfortable at 70mph+

preferably an H2R or a Hayabusa
>>
>>14672169
dont listen to that cuckold btw, get a 600cc like every other human thats ever existed and ever will exist until motorcycles become extinct, or a sweet dirt bike dual sport if you like fugging around in the dirt as well

OP just but a Yamaha R1s it will last you forever
>>
>>14672160
I would recommend the Y2K, but they are pretty hard to find. If you can manage to find one, it will be the ultimate learning machine. Else, go for either the Ducati Panigale 1299/ Suzuki Hayabusa/ Kawasaki Ninja ZX14r. After about two years of experience on any of those, sell it and upgrade to a Honda Cub.
>>
>>14672970
My dad had some 650cc Kawasaki dirt bike on his farm. I never got a chance to ride it because I was too young/small.
>>
>>14672160

You need to buy a 300cc or smaller motorcycle, a full Aerostitch riding suit, the best helmet you can afford, riding boots and gloves, and a hi-viz vest (All the gear all the time).

There's no reason to exceed the speed limit or lean more than 15 degrees on a motorcycle.
