Shamefully copied from legendary VINbro's threads
>I am able to run VINs and plates. For plates, the plate and state are needed. Plates do work most of the time, but VINs are more reliable.
>Please remove hyphens (dashes) from VINs/plates - unless they happen to be part of a vanity plate. This makes copying and pasting easier.
>I can only run cars in/originally in the USA/Canada. If they've been exported from the USA/Canada, a report with their time here will be available. Not yet sure about imported cars.
>Cars need to be of the 1981 model year or newer. That's when standardized VINs began. Anything older simply cannot be run for a report.
>There are never I(i), O(o), nor Q(q) in VINs. This is to avoid confusion with 1 and 0. So if you are unsure, it is always 1 or 0 (not the case for classic cars, but they cannot be run anyway).
>VINs must be 17 characters exactly. No more, no less.
>If you want the PDF-file you can open the page source (F12) and search "amazonaws", copy the whole link and put it in your browser. This should allow you to download the PDF. If its not working send me an email at [email protected]. Please leave a reply in the thread saying that you've done so, as I might forget to check the mailbox from time to time

They are available, yeah. I do believe they are actually what we have in spare for out Venture TF's, and is now sitting on that very snowmobile

The belt was basically just beat to shit, with the fibreglass-rods showing all over, several small rips and maybe a 1/4th of the teeth all missing, with every other being more than 50% worn

The Ventures are OK for our daily use, but fuck me if they aren't shit when we've had a decent snowfall and someone is trying to get up the steeper parts of the mountain... they really aren't made for that terrain.

There is a damned good reason why we use Lynx 600 ACE's for snowmaking and the areas that aren't yet ready instead of Ventures, and most likely a few of the Ventures will be replaced with some more capable sleds for the ski patrol who work in the more steeper areas

Summit would be slightly too overkill for the conditions we normally run. Something like a Renegade 800 E-Tec would be the most suited.

Probably going to consider a Summit 800 myself in a few years to use with the Red Cross for search and rescue, with 154's

Thanks Benz. Fug, it looks like this car was last registered on November 2013. In Massachusetts, Registrations must be renewed every 2 years. So the car needed to be registered on November 2015, but this isn't listed in the Vehicle history.

wat do? Should I just ask the guy if it's registered? Maybe he hasn't registered it because he wants to sell it and the person that buys it should register it?

>>
>>14224977
So there is some kind of shady story behind it after all. I wonder why he's saying that the title is clean, but your report says it's a salvage now. Some insurance crap maybe?
>>
JA3AH86D05U013724
>>
>>14225000
Could be that he says he brought it from Germany to be able to claim not knowing that he bought something that had been in a big crash or similar, being completely ignorant of VIN-checks and so on.

Salvage = being declared a total loss or similar by the insurance. This means that the damage caused to the car was deemed not worthwhile to repair, aka the car would still be worth less than the current value of it crashed + the sum of the repairs. They can be repaired at your own cost and quite often they are sold at auctions for people who want to buy a crashed car, fix it up themselves and perhaps save some money. Problem is that there is a lot of shoddy workmanship which means that you run the risk of buying something that is not put back into proper shape, especially if there has been frame/unibody damage.

Buddy of mine bought a car like that here in Norway; 2000 E-Class with, and I quote him, "sick low kilometres, pristine leather interior, 2.8 i6 and very little rust" for a suspiciously low amount. What got my attention was how there was a very visible edge on the paint running along the doorframes of the right side. Upon removing the carpet and interior trim you could easily see where there had been quite fucking huge damage to the right side, and it had apparently just been fixed by cutting out the crumpled metal, bending the pillar out again and rewelding some shitty steel plates right onto it.

A year later; all bushings in the front suspension had to be replaced, heating-wire for the rear window was disocered to only be working on 3 threads, rust started to pop out beneath the paint, one suspension mount for the left rear completely sheared off and finally the engine performed seppuku after my buddy decided to do his own oil change, putting outdated cheap 20w40 oil into the engine without replacing the filter and then running the engine hard in an arctic climate...

Moral of the story; dont buy salvages, and dont buy cars from my friend

>This means that the damage caused to the car was deemed not worthwhile to repair, aka the car would still be worth less than the current value of it crashed + the sum of the repairs.
But how can this happen if the history says there are no reports of the accidents, or flood damage or anything like that? Or not every major accident that will go trough insurance can land into accident database?
>>
>>14225700

It was last seen at an auction. So here's what likely happened.

The car got into an accident (or otherwise damaged) but was not reported. So there is no history of the damage. Unreported accidents aren't that uncommon.
For whatever reason(s), the owner decided to sell it at auction. When cars end up at auction, they do an inspection beforehand. They must have seen the damage (and how bad it was) and branded it with a salvage title after (assumingly) have repaired it.

And so now you have a car with no accident history, and therefore no "Total Loss" record, but a salvage title.

Or something like that.

I was in this car when it was wrecked in October. Insurance reports to both drivers companies and repaired at a shop. No police report was taken.

It's usually not long. Not all things are reported to AutoCheck and Carfax. Sometimes a record will be on one and not the other, or neither. Most are, but not all.

If it hasn't shown up yet, it likely won't. You'd have to check with Carfax to see if it is on a VHR record at all.

20 is low but it's not only highly relative but arbitrary and not without flaws.

You'll be given a range; a typical spread for your car. The older the car, the lower the range will be. So look at your score in relation to the range.

Bad title, high ownership count, and age are the biggest factors to lower your score, if I recall. Some things have far too little impact. Accidents, for example, have little or no effect. Same with mileage.

It's a neat at-a-glance tool but use it as just an extra tool, not a final decision maker. The contents of the report are far more important.

ACCIDENT OR VEHICLE DAMAGE REPORTED:RIGHT REAR SIDE
clean title tho, how is this possible? is this a big deal?
>>
>>14233765

A car can be in a hundred accidents and have a clean title. If an accident is small and/or doesn't have a high repair bill, there is no reason to brand it with a bad title.

Also, a vehicle can have a rolled back odometer but have no accidents and it will not have a clean title. Accidents and title status may or may not be connected.

As for is it a big deal. It depends on the accident. It was 8 years ago and the extent of the damage is not noted. You'll have to look at the area and see if there are affected parts.

You could also try calling the local police station where it happened and give the report # and say you are interested in buying it and would any info you're allowed to have. I've recommended it in the past but never heard back on whether or not it works. Seems worth a try to me.

>>
>>14234262

They both show most negatives, such as accidents, bad titles, odo rollbacks, etc...but Carfax tends to have considerably more records regarding maintenance and such. But the prices and product packages that are offered are fucking atrocious. AutoCheck has gotten worse, going from a 30 to a 21 day subscription, but it's still an okay price and can run plates and VINs. Carfax has no sub option that allows for VIN running. Only single and 5 report purchases allow that. The unlimited sub only allows US plates. And it costs more. Total bullshit.
Considering that both show most bad things (one may be missing a record that the other has, or both may be missing one, but they usually both have all), which is what most people are concerned with, AutoCheck is better, IMO.

If you are very serious about a vehicle, it's not a bad idea to get a Carfax for it once you've gotten an AutoCheck from here, however.

Shame I don't drink alcohol...
Can't find anything on this VIN - are you sure its correct, 1981 or newer and also located in the US/Canda?

Should be a Toyota Rav4:

First letter might be a U instead of a J. I think it's a J, though.

2007 Mazda 3, 79,000 miles, Louisville Kentucky. They're asking $3800 for it. Seems suspiciously cheap

something is funky with this 2015 CR-V, 638 miles and already has a salvage title. I'd love to know why.

Sounds smart. A basic, reliable car for regular use until you get that nice one you really want. Muh smarter than me going a year with nothing lol

Got your eye on anything specific?
