Fuck me /o/, need to have a car inspected today but my mechanic is in another state. The car i'm looking it will have RWC provided, and I haven't visually noticed any leaks (didn't bother looking under the car yet, as I thought he'd be around). Should I risk it or try and find somebody who won't fuck me -- I want to do a compression test to check for internal leaks.

Blew up the fuse connected to my ciggy lighter in the mx5 the other day, since replacing the fuse i've got a random electrical drain which kills the battery after a few days, any ideas?

earth problems

sounds like your loom has slightly melted and wires shorting out too

have fun i had a old massey tractor that would drain any battery if left connected for more than 2 days to the point of not being usable
>>
>>14213448
Earth problems i already thought i had, have a tach that likes to bounce around the place every now and again, but i couldn't seem to find the bad earth. Haven't noticed any melted cables yet either.

Currently just disconnecting the battery when i park it.
>>
>>14213505

you can get a battery terminal add-on, a screw-type thing which lets you easily disconnect the battery

>>
>>14213711
you probably could wire up a switch to cut the battery. you could hide it under the dash somewhere too so nobody can start the car but you.
>>
>>14213756
Yeah that's kinda what i was thinking, only problems being the radio resets every time the battery is disconnected.

regardless i'd like to fix it, but i'm not really sure what i'm doing, i do have a multimeter though so i think i need to look up a guide on tracking down electrical issues.
>>
>>14213777
with the switch, look up a guide, don't guess anything
with the grounds just fine the ones in the engine bay, with a disconnected battery unbolt the grounds, go crazy with a wire brush and put the ground cable back
someone with more experience (skyrine?) might be able to help you more though
>>
>>14213794
i haven't taken any of the grounds off to clean yet, which i will do, but they're all tight and clean as far as i can see. Also, the jumping tach issue tended only to happen after the car sat outside in the rain for a while...
>>
>>14213815
sounds like you also have a water leak at the back of the dashboard or near the ecu in the kick panel?
>>
>>14213842
Not sure if a leak near the ECU would effect the Tacho, the tacho runs directly off the coils and the car isn't misfiring, just jumping up 1k then down 1k

>>14214292
and yet when studies on speed cameras and speed related accidents are done and presented, showing that speed cameras are beyond useless and in some cases actually cause accidents because of split attention, they all plug their ears and sing "la lala"

honestly i dont care. the only speed cameras i encounter are in places i'd never speed, and places no one else speeds and has never sped.

do red light cameras actually have any effect on the number of accidents?

I read somewhere (from a probably untrustworthy source), that on average, they increase the amount of incidents by way of constant rear-enders resulting from people mashing on the brakes

the way I see it, if you want to run a red light, you can, provided you come to a full stop before taking off again

that and the fact that people who would run a red light at full speed wouldn't have a single thought in their mind about getting a fine for it

>>14214529

Isn't this only true for bikes and in one or two states?
>>
>>14214529
>do red light cameras actually have any effect on the number of accidents?
pretty sure they would cause accidents people braking to avoid fines and having rear enders
>>
>>14214529
honestly they probably cause more rear ends than they do to stop crashes. i've seen tonnes of people have to slam on the brakes when it goes from green to a split second yellow then red., especially in the city (i swear i've seen a few lights skip the yellow entirely).
>>
>>14212243
fuck you soup ninja use the right image ffs
>>
>>14214532
I'm quite certain it applies in victoria, as the camera senses your speed just before it takes the photos, as they need a photo of you before and after you cross the line, both on a red light

if you stop just before the line, the camera can't anticipate you driving through it

found this out after I was rear-ended while stationary at a camera intersection, and we both drove through it on a red
>>
>>14214532
>drone and ambient music
thats the laziest music ever. i made 40 minute ambient and drone albums in singe days and people praised that shit.

i recorded a fart and toilet flushing and stretched it out and people love it.

Ah, so it's not a legal thing it's abusing the camera lol. There was a guy at my work who used to do something similar on his 5-6am trip in.

I think in NSW motorcycles can legally do it if they stop first since a lot of the sensors there can't do bikes.

>>14214568
I don't mean that sort of one note six hour drone stuff where it takes less time to make than the music itself. I'm heavily influenced by bands like The Angelic Process and Nadja. Both of these clips are just noodling, but yeah.

Start with the basics, get a multimeter, disconnect the battery negative terminal and setting the meter on AMPS stick it between the negative cable and the negative battery post.

WAIT 60 seconds for all the CAN bus and shit to die, if its over 25 milliamps something is going on.

THEN via wizardy pull fuses one by one and see what happens to the milliamps. When it drops to nothing then BAM thats probable your issue.

Bend the tab, if there isn't a leak and it doesn't start over heating forget about it (obviously check on it every ride for a week of so).

You wont bend the radiator back at all, and even if you somehow could it would greatly increase the chance of shearing the end tank from the center assembly.

looks alright atm. Mines a 265 and has a huge exhaust leak, the stock headers iirc warped very easily. Mine was 2000 bucks, 210,000 km and came with a parts car

A 360 conversion would suit it, yours or maybe a yank big block. Somehing needs to be done with it, unless you're focussing your time on that VF/VG
>>
>>14216236
big blocks in any Aussie valiant are a cunt, take it from me. Literally everything firewall-forward has to be custom, costs a fuck load of money.
Even in the VF/VG Coupes that did come with factory big blocks are a pain, because we're RHD you have to get custom headers made, as well as mounts and a few other things, sadly they don't just slot right in thanks to our fucking steering boxes being on the wrong side.

The CM is going to get the 800hp Turbo 265 out of my Charger, the Charger is probably going to get a big block although I might take it back to bare-metal before anything at this point as the body and paint is showing its age. Coupe will be fiinished soon, Charger hopefully by end of the year if I don't pick up a yank-charger before then....

As for the CM, yeah, the stock headers for them are fucking terrible, do this for instant livability increase;
Remove ELB, put on after market ignition
Pacemakers
External oil pump
Match-port and headwork

265's are amazing engines and love any basic work done to them.

Anyone know why my remote central locking would stop working?
It's not the key fob because I have 2 and they both dont work.
It worked fine on the way to and from work but stopped when I got home to lock it.
I have to lock it from the inside now but the central locking still works.
>>

>>
>>14216590
Thanks, will do
>>
>>14216597
also try disconnecting battery, waiting 30 sec, reconnecting battery

then just replace the keyfob batteries anyway just in case
>>
>>14216602
This. Disconnecting the battery will reset it. It could also be that the keyfob is no longer matching up with the system so if the battery disconnect fails, try this

>close all doors
>put key in ignition
>turn key to ignition 1/accessories
>hold unlock button
>all doors should lock and unlock or something similar
>remote will be reprogrammed to system

It's a trick I learned when my system fucked up.
>>
>>14216613
>>14216602
Ok thanks guys, I just tried the ignition one but it didn't work, I'll try the battery tomorrow and see how that goes
>>
>>14216642
Also try holding the lock button instead. Alarms are fiddly and different from each other, so it's just a guessing game without knowing what the car is or the alarm system.
>>
>>14216644
Yeah I tried both
it's a
ford exploder
no idea if the alarm system is stock or after market though
>>
>>14216656
If it's a 2000s one I'd guess it's stock. Tried the Ford forums? The last step is to go to an auto electrician which will run you about $80 per hour. My guy had it fixed in 15 minutes though so you might be lucky.
>>

What do you guys think would be a reasonable selling price for my 2010 Isuzu D-max?
Moved into town recently and i do not need it anymore.
Has a couple dents but everything else about it is in good condition, full service every 10,000km and it has never had a single problem other than a flat battery which was my fault, has 64,000km on the clock.
>>
>>14216724

>>
>>14216752
If it's a 4x4, looks as though similar year/milage variants are asking near on $30k, although because of the body condition, you may be able to make a quick sale at ~$25k
>>
>>14216762
yeah it is a 4x4, competes with the Hilux, Triton, Amarok etc, would the body condition really drop the price that much? its a bloody farm ute.
>>
>>14216766
Thats for a quick sale, $29000, 28.5 would be fine
>>
>>14216767
fair enough, thats honestly a bit more than i thought it would be worth by now, i could buy a fairly neat car for that price, heck i could buy a nice car and a shit box so i don't have to drive the nice car as a dd.

regarding servicing.
manufacturer reccomends servicing every 6 months if i drive arduously,i drive ~500km a week mostly on roads <60km/hr, stop start in traffic.
if i were to service it every 10,000km that would mean a service of 2.6 times a year or maybe 2 because there are weeks where i dont drive as much.
im 100% reliant on my car for work.
is it neccessary that i service it every 10k km to keep everything smooth?
thanks

She's got another 100k before the head gaskets blow up. Just make sure she's good on the tranny if its manual and you're suite.

Also, subaru upper engine cleaner, go grab a bottle from your nearest scooby-doo dealership if the car hasn't been serviced at a subaru shop recently.

previous owner had a head gasket blow.
replaced radiator etc, didnt drive it, had it towed.
Is it too much to replace all head gaskets?

It's a manual but she doesnt have her license and is learning on it, good luck. the clutch on it is weird as hell, maybe 4x harder to depress than the brake pedal. It's not a car id want to learn manual on.

from papers i cant figure out if timing belt has been changed, last subaru service was done at 100,000 , since then its been done at kmarts etc.

I was talking to a mechanic and he said for timing belt at any decent mechanic theyd stamp when its changed. no stamp since then but heaps of receipts for services since. ill probably make her get the timing belt inspected to make sure it isnt the same one from 150,000 ago. I think subaru says change timing belts at 105,000?
upper engine cleaner what's the reasoning for that?

well it depends on what area you live in, if you never see cops then yeah it'd be a great idea just don't go driving around at night in areas close to the city, since you'll probably get pulled over and defected maybe depending on if you buy a drift spec looking one.
if you get one its probably one of the most enjoyable cars to hoon about in on your p's and chances are you won't be disapointed with the revvy engines that'll be a lot of fun for you if all you've driven is corollas, falcodores etc
