Hey guys,
What do you think of these in terms of first car choices

1999 Honda Prelude $2700
Mazda RX7 FC 1987 $ 3300
1984 Porsche 944 $2000
Toyota MR2 AW11 1986 $2000

I am a passionate man of limited skill and dangerous enthusiasm
I don’t have a daddy. I never had a daaddy

I have no tools or knowledge of automotive engineering.

I am 29 years old, I have lived in the same apartment by myself for nearly 11 years now living off weekly allowance with books, manga, anime, vidya, music, film, and car magazines
always loved cars but never was able to drive one hahahaha
the most i have is the karting ive done at the local track for 10 years
i've been saving up allowance through fasting and abstaining from other purchases
i want to buy a car so i can go out into the world
anyway
i hope you guys will offer me your expertise

FC , but try to get a turbo familia
>>
>>14118295
At those prices and your automotive expertise this troll post is 0/10

If for some ungodly reason this is real then just get an accord or civic.
>>
>>14118295

>first car
>RX7
>944

Go Prelude or the as11. The aw11 is a shit to work on (because mid engine) is reliable but is getting old now. Prelude is a bit boring but bullet proof. It is your only realistic option.
>>
>>14118295
Of the four listed, the Prelude is the only good first car
>>
>>14118305
what

anyway i also found a 1982 Porsche 924 for $1500 in decent condition but needs a new fuel pump
also a 1986 Porsche 944 for $3300 in good running condition and nice and clean

i liked porsche when i was a kid
>>14118308
no turbos sadly
>>14118315
what? whats wrong

i just would like some help fulfilling my dream
>>
>>14118330
Yeah get the 944.
>>
Go for the Honda Prelude. Way more availability in parts in comparison to the 944 and the mr2. Second choice would be rx7, but keep in mind you are going to be replacing your apex seals every 60k miles. If this is truly your first car, my advice would be not to worry about driving fast, focus on driving smart.

i dont really like the prelude that much to be honest
is it really my best bet

Then get a Porsche. You want to fulfill your dream, right?
>>
>>14118361
People will try to tell you what you should buy, when it's obvious you know what you want. If you listen to people, you'll end up with a Miata. Follow your dreams man
>>
>>14118363
but its a PORSCHE
and theyre so cheap?
im scared itll just be a junker
i dont know a lot
and it would take me a long time to get parts or to even buy tools to fix it if anything breaks
and im suspicious that theyre so cheap
its weird
the mr2 is cool because it reminds me of the old super cars
and people say its reliable like a corolla
>>
>>14118295

Get the prelude. Performs well, lots of cheap parts available, good community of enthusiasts, looks great, etc. Itll be the least disappointing.
>>
>Those prices
You're going to buy a hunk of rust

Fucking knew it, this is toyotaspam.

You posted this thread with a badly bullshit premise, naming cool sports cars and a couple of FF POS JUST to invite toyota or tonda suggestions, praise for those cars and insulting of the others.

You couldn't get much insulting on the others your alleged "dream car", so you had to start the bashing yourself. Worse yet, you mentioned only toyota in your prev post and went ahead and introduced 'corolla' thus clearly exposing yourself and your intent.

fuck off spam artist fuck off
>>
>>14118388
Prelude will almost certainly be the most disappointing of the cars listed. Follow ur dreams OP.

this one is the $2000 one
less pretty
and less good on the interior
>>
It all depends on your current financial situation, willingness to learn, and access to tools/equipment.

Since what you listed as your first cars are more than a decade old you pretty much need to buy tools and manuals.

>1999 Honda Prelude $2700
5th gen prelude would be a good first car to monkey with, I'd say go and find a 3rd gen though because they look better. Also keep an eye out for preludes with All Wheel Steering (4WS), it was an available option for the 3rd and 4th gens.

>Mazda RX7 FC 1987 $ 3300
Don't get an RX-7 unless you really love them, they require consistent preventative maintenance and can easily turn around and screw you. Rotary engines suck gas and inherently burn oil like crazy, 18-24 mpg average and oil fills every 3000 miles. However they are easy to work on and maintain in themselves, so if you are willing to sacrifice your soul to the dorito god I'd say do it but at your own risk.

>1984 Porsche 944 $2000
Stay FAR away from any 944 if you like your wallet, they are difficult to work on and parts are lolexpensive because its a Porsche. They have numerous known issues and shops charge a lot for work. The N/A's aren't fast at all and the turbocharged models are significantly more expensive and rare to find. If you really want one make sure to buy an absolutely top condition that has been taken care of. The reason these things are so cheap is because they always break down and people just want to offload them because they just sit in the driveway broken.

>Toyota MR2 AW11 1986 $2000
MR2's are alright, but they have a lot of weird quirks about them that can be problematic if unaccounted for. They notorious rust like crazy and somewhat difficult to work on with the mid-mounted engine. Trolls here are going to spam lolsnapoversteer but in reality they are pretty well controlled and won't unless you are a really bad driver or have worn tires. Otherwise space is limited so if you wanna carry anything it ain't gonna be easy.
>>
>>14118459

but alot of these are running and even can be driven as an only car
>>
>>14118459
>co-toyotaspammer replying exactly as the opspammer intended- with all the memes.
Bonus laugh, he tries to downplay his partiality to the toyota but blows it all open with this one line
>spam lolsnapoversteer but in reality they are pretty well controlled and won't unless you are a really bad driver or have worn tires
>>
>>14118466
That helps a lot, as long as you can afford to maintain any of those get whatever you want. I'm just warning you on known issues with some of those cars.

>>14118471
I don't know why you think I'm a shill, snap oversteer an overblown issue that doesn't happen except in extreme circumstances.
>>
>>14118495
i guess im just worried
are 944s really that unreliable and hard to fix? how expensive are they to maintain?
>>
>>14118295
Minus the prelude, those are good second cars.
Your first car should be boring and easy to fix, so that you can get the basics down before you jump in to something that WILL need major upkeep on the regular.

Prelude!
>>
>>14118504
How many do you see on the road?
Yes, they're unreliable.
Just like the AW11 and FC
>>
>>14118524
Are you fucking stupid? The AW11 is reliable as hell.
>>
>>14118375
The 944 had a shitty wiring harness on all pre-87 models. The porsche i-4 is more intricate than most and the transmission is few-of-a-kind because it's in the ass of the car and drives the rear wheels through some demonic transaxle setup.

I thought about buying a 944. They're brilliant and fun cars, quieter on the inside than a modern luxury sedan. The owner was a older porsche fanatic and had all of the car's records. But when he showed me how he paid 2 grand for a timing belt job and how expensive oem parts were, I had to walk away.

It's really AW11 vs Prelude. I've heard you have to drop the engine on the aw11 for most jobs, but you could also convert the rear trunk into more engine bay if you wanted.
>>
>>14118504
944's are unpredictable at best, it really depends on the previous owner and whether its been maintain routinely. The engine is renowned for being stereotypically german and difficult to work on, Timing belts are expensive/difficult to replace, ECU is known to randomly shutdown or break, and thousands of fancy 80's electronics that are bound to fail.

how does the prelude family handle
i do want something fun
i dont know
i just want something thats fun to drive
like karting
driving should be fun!
>>
>>14118580
Have you looked at Honda CR-X's? They're good handling, lightweight, and small.
>>
>>14118580
i have an 88 prelude and i love it
99 would be faster, but it weighs a lot more, and personally i don't know how it handles
third gen (88-91) preludes have ridiculous handling though
4ws models weigh more but have 4ws
remember tho, old cars might be like:
>well, what's wrong today, prelude?
>>
>>14118607
all the crxs near me have either been wrecked, left to rot, or just completely abused
>>14118617

the b20awhatever engine is awful

This. Fwd is more versatile for conditions than rwd always. Regardless of what shitpoters say dravtrain should only be looked at if your only using it for one specific reason. Look at the overall quality of the car if your looking to daily drive and have fun.
