Would a carb sync issue cause an engine to die when a little bit of throttle (about 1/8th) is applied? I'm kinda new to multi carbureted engines, and would like an answer before i splurge on a sync tool.

Thanks in advance,

Is $3500 for a 2009 SFV650 Gladius with 1300 miles a good or bad deal? It has been dropped once he said so minor scrapes. This is in central california.

It would be my second bike, so I think I'd be good enough to ride it, however, I have about 6,000 saved up, is it a bad investment? Or will it be reliable enough to make up for the 3500?

Also any advice on what to look for when buying would be appreciated!
>>
>>14059114
You need to spray carb cleaner through the passages that the jets screw into. Use piano wire to clean the jets.
>>
>>14059140
its basically an ugly sv650

3500 is an ok price for one with low miles

>>
>>14059140

What are you looking for in a motorcycle? The SFV650 Gladius doesn't particularly excel at anything, but is basically a SV650. So yeah. It's a fair price.
>>
>>14059114
>>14059118
Might cleaning process was

>complete dissasembly
>dunk in cleaner for a half an hour
>rinse
>blast all passages with carb cleaner
>rinse entire body and passages with laquer thinner out of a squeeze bottle
>blow out all passages with air compressor.

Jets and small parts get the same treatment in a dunk basket. If you cant see clearly through a jet, either replace it or very carefully floss it with lightweight fishing line.
>>
>>14059118
Shot compressed air through all the holes I could find after I finished dunking them, and when I replaced jets. Slipped my mind to mention that though, thanks.

>>14059127
O rings were a little rotted looking, and I did a rebuild because the float bowls were leaking and the rubber diaphragms were brittle/perforated (most I spent on the bike right there lol)
>>
>>14059178

>>
>>14059216
taking off plastics is going to make it look like ghetto trash, you might be able to get a better looking headlight though
>>
>>14059214

Complete rebuild due to some of the rubber being rotted, didn't fill like taking the chance with any of them. Fuel/air screws turned to their original position, previously took pictures for orientation and wrote the turns down for each one. Cables are routed properly and adjusted, the only one I'm not sure about is the sync cable between them. It was returned to its original position though

it's probably a lot easier on a boxer twin like that, but most likely not gonna work on a 4 cylinder. plus the exhaust pulses won't be evenly timed if you're on a v-twin. also synchronizing and mixture adjustments are two different things.

Do not use water. Too thin and will get sucked out in no time with any small variance. I used 80w and it worked well. Even if you have a 4 cyl make a 2 tube synch tool. Sync 1 and 2 then 3 and 4 then sync the two sides together. Do this a couple times to get a good sync

a new engine would be pretty sweet even though the current one only has about 20k on it

Question from a previous thread that was never answered; how do I know if I'm pushing my bike too hard on the highway? I only have a speedometer, and it's about 3/4 the way to pinned at about 120km/h.

It doesn't matter what bike you ride, they'll swear they didn't see you or anything.
I had one try to run after knocking me over on 45, luckily I had my gear and armor on and traffic was pretty much at a stand still so I could get back on and get up to him. Wear your gear, especially on a Houston highway

Good, I learned the hard way to put gear on everytime, even if it's just to a Gringos a few streets away.
They aren't the most practical things to wear, but if you're relatively fit you get some looks coming your way...
Back on topic the riding jeans aren't too bad, not as good as leather but miles better than a pair of 501s.
Alternatively get tight leather and wear baggy jeans over them, you'll be protected without the pants showing

Yeah, don't wear those to work in. A pair of dainese boots got wore out in the plants because I didn't feel like bringing a different pair of work boots, that hit my wallet way harder than just buying a seperate pair of work boots and keeping them in my locker. Anyway stay safe and keep riding.
Thanks everybody else for suggestions to my issue. I'll twerk the air/fuel screws, build/buy a carb sync tool and fix that, and if necessary recelan the carbs.

The first day I kind of expected to splat. I figured that from riding my bike as a kid in soft sand. The rocks I did not expect the difficulty to ramp up so quickly. The mud was hilarious the first time. After that, I was no longer amused since I had an hour ride back after we finally extracted ourselves from that mess. Plus, I get mad at myself for lack-of-skill/failure. Always been that way and it sucks.

Also Jesus nz Bros your bikes are fucking expensive. All the Vstrom 1000s are like 6000 kiwi bucks and the SV650s are all 3500. I can pick those up for almost 2 grand less in burger bucks. Its cheaper just to rent the bikes from a rental place than outright buying them.

im not even posting with that name anymore lol, i havent been for a while im just letting whoever it is have their fun.

Anyone have an idea on what to do here?
The lock pin is a little prick of a thing so i just went with force idea but i can not get the screw to turn any further from here :/
Soldering iron wont work on the lock tight i cant get the grips off without taking the caps off first and they will melt before i get the lock tight burnt to be brittle.

Maybe make up something to grab around it and yank it out? or could that hurt something?
Otherwise i am giving up and screwing it back in.

Not bad man. Enjoy the weather and your ability to ride year round when you can.
>>
>>14060089
Remove that thing and use vise grips or soak it on acetone.

Yeah I've stopped riding to work because it's below freezing pretty much every day. Not as bad as you northerners but I try to not ride if I don't have to and there's a chance of ice on the road. Only a couple months from riding again m8!

Should I be alright to just pull that little ring out with a pair of pliers from that point?
It almost feels like I am going to break it when i pull on it but I am guessing it is designed to be pulled out just with pliers and i am just being paranoid about it.

i am a big fan of that white/red/blue livery
the headlights make it look like a weird northern european robot from futurama
ugly ass turn signals
the swingarm looks weird
loose wiring/brake lines on front fender is ugly
i4 so it has a nice engine sound but p common

8.5/10
needs rear fender delete, frame sliders, and aftermarket exhaust to get to 9

Naw, we have a pretty good riding season. Summer is short in Anchorage, but we have four glorious months of 75-degree weather, almost no rain, doesn't get dark at all most of the summer, meaning you're out at 1:00 A.M. in August, and you don't need to worry about night riding.
