the vert looks like it's in much better condition, the hatch definitely has some kind of frame damage, the body panels don't sit evenly at all. If you care about the looks of the car or you're just going to daily it I'd go with the vert. If you're looking to make it a missile go with the hatch.
Also don't be afraid to ask the person to take a look at the car. You can always lowball them and chances are they will take it

TO THE ANON ASKING IF A 240 WAS A BAD CHOICE FOR A FIRST CAR! No, it's actually a great idea. The car will NOT be perfect and will force you into learning how to maintain and fix small things in the car. Its a great learning experience. They also are not fast so you won't kill yourself, and rwd and lightweight will teach you some car control of you decide to get fully hectic uleh. Insurance will be decently cheap depending on your record and if you don't drive like an ass. And if you want to upgrade after some time there is a huge aftermarket and mostly everything is relatively easy to do. Hope that provides some insight!

How tough would you guys say a 190k miles KA24DE is? Mines smoking like a bitch out of the exhaust(blue and white smoke) but my head gasket is good I guess, I assume I would know. ALSO check your coolant. Drain it an re use it you have to buy check to see if there is oil in there. If you have oil in your coolant, it's a head gasket. Not good but not gonna kill you. If you have coolant in the oil, that not good at all.

When I went to 225's i needed to roll my fenders & still had rubbing issues when I was lower, then when I lifted & went 245's my tires were poking out 2 inches without even having spacers & if my suspension traveled it would have murderd them, so I went overfender widebody so I can have wiggle room to work with.
Also when I get my type x bumper & attach my kouki wing I'm gonna have it shaved & fitted to look flush with the body then repaint so it looks like a regular 240, just wider

These 270s give awesome power. It wasnt the cams fault that I lunched a rocker trying to straighten my 35 lbs boost tune.
The chipping comes from rockers floating or coming off the lifters. You likely had an over rev once, and the hlas didnt keep up. Also, harsh misfires (like blowing spark out) cause the rockers to flutter and chatter against the cams.
Mine just came apart and gave me a big FU.

No problem friend. Just be cautious. Don't jump in head first and buy someone's hacked up project. Have some comon sense and do some research. Of you go to get a car make sure to test all the gears, take it on the highway, let it run for a while, let it idle for 20 mins or so and see if it means anything, play with everything in the interior and see if all lights work, check for rust and check panel gaps to make sure it hasn't been crashed. Maybe even get it inspected by a local shop for 70$.

Where'd you get the rb20 idea from? They're not bad engines, they fit pretty neatly in s13's. A turbo rb20 would obviously make more power than the n/a ka24 but is it worth the rebuild to turbo ka's when you can just stuff boost into an rb20 and be happy? I don't really know much about the ka's but I've spent alot of time fucking about with the rb20.
Haven't been out in my car this weekend much unfortunately, frustrating having it just sit there doing nothing. Might have to take it for a quick drive after work tommorow I reckon.

ECU has pretty much nothing to do with A/C and the like. It's the engine management. I have an RB20 in my S13 and I like it a lot. Not fast, not slow. Very reliable.
That being said the swap itself is pretty easy but it'd do you good to beat out the trans tunnel a little bit. I didn't do that and I had a hard time with the trans.

Trans is the same for the KA and SR, bell housings different. Can't say the same for the CA because I haven't messed with them but it probably is.

CAs and SRs use the same transmission, but with slightly different ratios. You just have to swap the bellhousing to suit.
I say stick with the CA - they're fantastic little engines that are piss easy to work on and are reliable as hell so long as they're properly looked after (which any good owner should be doing anyway).
Plus, they sound so much better than those tractor SRs.

No, most honda's apart from the S2K and the NSK are not sports cars
Some are hot hatches, that is to say a sportier version of a typical passenger vehicle, but not a dedicated sports car in and of itself.
S-Chassis are designed to be sports cars from the ground up, they don't share a platform with your grandma's civic. There is less inherent compromise built into the car.

Looking back all the way until the 60s, the s-chassis has always been a 2 door "sporty" model
and, discussing S13 and newer, they were indeed designed for performance. Multilink IRS, a decent weight distribution at the cost of interior space, there aren't things you stick in a passenger car unless you have a different objective.

I don't know a lot about 240sx's, got out of my 300zx TT a few months ago and looking for something that will be simpler to work on and more reliable. I found this 240sx that seem to be decent I don't really know what a fair price is it seems like most of them have crazy asking prices or rice quality. the 89s and 90s have a 140hp single-cam engine and 91+ have a 155hp dual-cam.
I'd wait for a dual-cam if possible but that one does look like it's in pretty good condition other than the paint, so it might be worth checking out.

I actually got into the s chassis back in 2001 because I had wrecked my 2nd gen Prelude. While I loved that car, the suspension and tires were rather unforgiving once it went into a slide.
Then I got into the whole drifting thing before it turned into the monstrosity that it is now.
Since then, I have just went with having a big hp# rwd street machine in a light rwd chassis. I find the s chassis is great for that.

Putting it on is simply fenders lights and bunpers and hood. All bolts onto factory s14 places. Getting all the parts is a bit pricey though. Look on Facebook groups and local dealers.
