I bought myself a fishing pole for Christmas. You did much better than me.

And idk why people in here are hating on GTI's so much. I mean VAG is a shit of course. But the GTI is the hatch that all others are compared to. It's the M3 of that segment. It may not be the best at everything, but they are fun cars.
>>
>>13986277
I'd be spending maybe $10k more for a Mustang or Camaro with the options I want.

What this guys said. A 2015 Golf R is only a few thousand bucks more than a fully loaded performance package GTi. And don't listen to half of these guys OP, they don't know what they're talking about. The ST drives like shit and don't fall for the VAGXD shills with their ford bait. I would however, consider an older STi over it or even an EVO X with tons of upgrades if possible.
>>
>>13986393
Goddamn, goddamn. I'd personally buy something else for that price, but still a nice choice!
>>
>>13986409
Ah, but I forgot you said Canadian dollars. That makes a difference I suppose.

Assuming the car doesn't try to kill you.

>>13986296
Its not a car known for long term reliability. And just like the M3 there's better cars in its segment.

>>13986407
>Drives like shit
>I know better than Randy Pobst and literally every automotive journalist in the world

Literally no one has ever said it drives like shit. Hell, someone at Jalopnik actually put 75k miles on his in 3 years. Matt Farah compares his Fiesta ST to a Integra Type R in how it drives/feels.

>good enough journos have actually bought the cars with their own money

http://jpdaugherty.kinja.com/focus-st-75k-mile-owner-review-1743617015
>>
>>13986417

Yeah I paid full cash for it. Considering the exchange rate, the R is a bargain in Canada.

I would definitely buy something crazier if I wasn't limited to AWD. I love it so far.
>>
>>13986074
40k for 220hp turbo 2.0

could literally get an STi
>>
>>13986451
This.
Get a Mustang or Focus ST.
>>
>>13986451
I never claimed that VW's topped reliability lists, but don't pretend like Fords are bulletproof. My sister's Fiesta is a nightmare.
>>
>>13986493
$40k? You must not live in the States.

WRX/STi hasn't looked good since Hawkeye gen. Current ones are soooo fucking ugly.
>>
>>13986511
you're a bug-eye
>>
>>13986494
Again...

I don't like how the Focus looks, and a Mustang of my liking would be roughly $10k more.
>>
>>13986305

this desu senpai

>GTI w/ PP and DSG etc fully optioned

$40605 CAD for 220 HP and FWD

>Golf R with Tech package (fully optioned)

$43410 CAD for 300 HP and AWD

GTI is for keks.
>>
>>13986549
Wow, I can't believe it is that close. Is the R missing anything the GTI would have at that price?
>>
>>13986565

No, nothing.

I am not ever sure if the GTI has DCC which the R does have.
>>

>>
>>13986565
I don't know what's going on in Canada, but here in the States...

>4-door GTI w/ PP starts at $27,090
>Golf R starts at $35,650

I wouldn't call $8,560 a small difference.

$41,110 USD

Still pretty good but not as good as us canucks.

For that price, the Focus ST has an open diff?

Even a Civic Si comes with a LSD
>>
>>13986629
That's assuming GTI owner would want full options and DSG. Not a very realistic comparison.
>>
>>13986642
The Civic Si drives like shit compared to any of its competitors. The LSD is its only redeeming value.

And frankly with the amount of discounts Ford gives on them you could always later on get a Quaife installed and still come out cheaper than the GTI PP by a few grand.

>>13986074
I went with a 2016 wax over the GTF. Hard choice since my last car was an mk4 GTF. Loved it. Overall, the wax felt and performed better for me. Interior on the gti is in a different league altogether. Way better. The awd was best for where I live though. I do miss the gti though. The golf r was 10k more than my wax, I did consider it though.
>>
>>13988544

>Still more reputable than a bunch of queers on /o/ with 20 year old Miatas

Should be worth something. Its not like its a press car he drove for free.

Why not the Seat Cupra?
>>
I had a 2014 Leon cupra 280 for half a year. Car was an absolute beast and the LSD worked wonders.
It was expensive to insure and run though with 14l/100 km consumption
Traded it in for a 2011 gti that was 10 grand cheaper. Running similar power figures with remus exhaust, apr carbonio intake and apr tune. Eibach springs for some lower. Even as an older model the build quality of the gti is superior to the leon
Torque steer is real tho
If you can afford the gti I can highly recommend it based on my experience with the leon cupra

>>
>>13990878
It's a Spanish-built Golf GTI with a slightly detuned R engine instead, as well as somewhat nicer looks.
Only sold in Europe as far as I know.

Good job, op. This is probably the best time to buy a Volkswagen. They are doing crazy discounts due to the whole emission fiasco.

I would also buy some stocks too since they will rebound within a year or two.
