Afternoon, how is everyone today?
Hey, I'm about to buy a 1985 Ninja 600 (gpz600r or whatever, pic related) for $700
I'm getting it for a steal, considering the title is clean and it'll run with some work (plus it looks like whoever had it at least wanted to do serious stuff with it), but there are a few problems, and from what my mid-level mechanical knowledge is telling me, they might not be so hard to fix, and they are as follows:
To start, the bike won't idle without throttle, and even then, it smokes like a lawn-mower. The idle adjustment knob/screw is screwed all of the way in, and unscrewing it obv doesn't help at all. I have a feeling that the air pods installed are either clogged or the pods+yoshimura were overcompensated for in the jets and the bike is running stupid rich. I didn't get to pull the plugs yet, but I have a feeling it's either that or a carb choke/throttle cable position problem.
The clutch doesn't seem to completely disengage when you pull in the lever, and when the bike is in gear and you try to start it, you can feel it blip forward like the clutch is partially engaged. I have a feeling best case scenario the clutch cable needs to be adjusted on the top or bottom, and worst case scenario the guy has some drag clutch installed or something, idk.
That's it for the major problems that keep me from riding it home. I'll post a few pics that the owner sent me. It has a weld on the midpipe to fit the yoshi, and there are 4 uni-pods over the carb holes. The idle adjustment screws on the carbs have been breached, so that's a good sign someone tried to do some kind of modification, right? The front brake lines have been replaced with SS lines, as well as the radiator lines, for what it's worth as well.
It sounds awesome when it runs and is a quick revver, like a 4 cyl 600 would be, even for a carbed 4 stroke. It's quick to return from a high rev and doesn't hang or anything, so yea.

What is the best bike for $1000-1500? I was thinking about a Honda magna v45 750 they are good looking and fast and seem reliable. I'm looking at both cruisers or crotch rockets but I feel crotch rockets in that price range Will be beat to shit. I would buy something good but I got a $120/m car payment and other expenses and only make $8.50hr
