Each one got to drive a £75,000 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet for one hour, followed by an hour in a 16-year-old Toyota Camry, a family car. Tests on saliva samples showed a significant increase in testosterone while drivers were cruising around in the Porsche. But there was either no effect, or even a slight decline, when they got behind the wheel of the battered old Toyota. Researchers noted the most potent effect was when volunteers were driving through town, where there were plenty of potential female admirers.
But hormones even rose slightly when they were out on the open road, with no spectators, according to the study published in the journal Organisational Behaviour and Human Decision Processes.
