Is it a good DD? I've heard they're very reliable and fun to drive, also mpg is pretty decent. Im looking at one for about 3,900 with 134k miles. i sport, 2.3 4 cylinder.
>>
The 1st gen Mazda 6's are very reliable cars for the most part. Make sure you check the motor mounts are solid though, they tend to go around 150k
>>
>>13918931
Yeah they are good cars. Make sure to have timing chain guides inspected at that mileage though
>>
Yeah, im definitely doing a through check-up, but its good they're not really high balling on the price.
>>
>>13919004
Btw OP is it the hatch or just the regular sedan?
>>
>>13919024
Sedan
>>
Seconding the mount inspection. I've seen a case where the upper mount just below the battery failed spectacularly which caused the weight of the transmission to bear down on the mount just below it, which could have caused that one to eventually fail as well had we (muh auto shop) not gotten to it.

I love mine

It doesn't feel at all like a car that was designed 14 years ago.

Wagon is superior. All in all, the best car I've ever owned. Only problems I've had are a cracked intake hose causing O2 sensor problems, and some dodgy headlight wiring, but both were inexpensive fixes.

Great car, I had one as my first car all gray. Lasted me until 256k miles doing shitty maintainence. Then one day while I was driving to grab some milk in the morning the engine block cracked in half and spilled every thing. Just keep up on the maintenance. I only had to replace the motor mounts once. The engine is very beginner friendly and the mpgs are great. Lots of space I use to take it camping all the time. Mine was manual and I enjoyed it very much. I drive the speed6 version now.

Very good cars. Problems start at around 120kmiles on the clock. Owned a 1.8 litre diesel btw.
>>
>>13918931
Only the V6 GT and the speed6 are any good.

>>13921956
the 2.3 is fine dude

I own an 04 GT wagon.
It's 11 years old but it looks and feels half that number. I have no experience on the 2.3 cyl but I've read on forums that they're more reliable, also easier to work on.
I recently changed my sparks and I had to remove the upper manifold to get to the rear bank. Took me 4 hours!

>>13921939
I'm at 210k and no problems so far. I just replaced the air hose and sparks, aside from my oil changes (every 3mos) and coolant change.

>>13919399
I'm biased towards the GT wagon, I love the body colored grill and black leather.

My intake hose cracked, duct taped it.
I broke the pcv valve and did a real shitty job duct taping it back onto the air hose- got a CEL for lean mix something something so I electrical taped it well and purchased a $60 air hose on amazon and it worked well- no more CEL.
I hate the rust though so I tried fixing it.
Also, any experience on a non working seat heater?

Better off with a Corolla or Camry desu senpai they sell better and are just overall a more quality reliable car.

I had the chance to buy one of these with a V6 and a 5-speed. I passed it up for reasons I will never know.

Buddy, believe me I've tried, but the rice tax is ridiculous in my area.

What is the parts compatibility between the 6 and 3?
All I find for v6 wagons or wagons in general are autos.
My uncle has a parts 3 on his lot with a manual in it.
Worth the hassle to swap it? Or spend 3-5k on a 10+ year old car for the manual?

Excellent DD, I have a 2007 6i hatchback as my DD. Very fun to drive with excellent handling. Mine's only got 61k miles, but it's been reliable. Only issue I had was a coil pack failure, which was easy to diagnose and replace myself.

As others have said the styling has aged well. I prefer it, especially the interior, to most current new cars.

I'd definitely recommend it for a more enthusiast minded driver that wants or needs a midsize car.

>>13926953
Probably not much. The 3 never had a V6 so I doubt the transmissions would swap.
>>
I miss the fuck out of my 6.

Had to downgrade to an 01 camry after being totaled, consider suicide every day.

My mom handed down her '05 3.0l v6 model to me when I was in high school. Lasted right up to about 180 thousand miles and the transmission started shitting out. It's currently in my garage on jack stands while I swap in a new one. Which is a total bitch on this car.
Only other problems I've experienced:
>LED readout for the radio went out and I had that replaced
>Leaky back window, just needs a bead of silicon.
Not all of them will shit out on you like mine did, but according to the internet the transmissions are the weakest point.
>>
>>13928389
I should include it as a 6 speed auto
>>
>>13928389
Ive read alot of reviews and car reliability sites and didn't really find anything about tranny issues
>>
>>13928542
I guess it makes sense that I found a lot of reported tranny issues after I googled "Mazda 6 transmission problems". But I have also talked to a mazda tech at a dealership before and he told me that the most common things he replaces under the hood are bearings and transmissions.
>>
>>13928599
Aside from normal wear and more commonly blown parts (aka head gaskets on mazdaspeed proteges)
>>
Is getting the V6 worth the extra cost?
