I've missed all of /o/'s threads on this car, but JESUS CHRIST it looks sooooooo much better than the down syndrome styling on the new Miata

9.9 out of 10, will buy Abarth version when it comes to market

It would've been great if you could've swapped the Fiat front onto a Miata for a less angry look, but they didn't even shape the body panels to be interchangable.

Looks way better on the actual car.

Who cares? So did Mazda.

>Whether we’re allowed to take pictures of it now or later, Mazda’s newest crossover (presumably) gets a whole host of the automaker’s latest and greatest including its new 2.5-liter, turbocharged SKYACTIV four cylinder that makes 250 horsepower* and 310 pound-feet of torque.

>>
>>13898856

Exactly. The point isn't that it's better than the Mazda but rather that now we're seeing more roadsters expecially one by Crystler Company

Abarth should come sooner

2L Mazda engine is 155 hp / 148 Tork

Fiat 1.4 Turbo is 160 hp/ 184 Tork

Given the difference in weight, the acceleration and handling number will end up being the same

>>13898872
>>13898867
>>13898884
The Abarth was/is speculated to have more than 200hp
>>
>>13898893
I'd rather have an N/A though.
>>
>>13898914
I bet you never drove a proper turbo
>>
>>13898914
To each there own, I've gotten to thrash a 500 Abarth around on several occasions, and that little engine is fucking fantastic

Not to mention the fact the 1.4 turbo already has great aftermarket options in place
>>
>>13898923
Turbos are completely unnecessary unless you're forced to work your way around a limited displacement.
>>
>>13898947
>unless you're forced to work your way around a limited displacement
We're speaking about small-sized roadsters here, so yes, we're kind of forced to use turbos
>>
>>13898960
Then explain to me why there's a 2.0L N/A in the Miata.
>>
>>13898973

Yes miatas are good even without the turbo but there's something about the turbo that grabs a driver's attention. Making these cars have turbos gives us the chance to grab the attention of the world with roadsters again. We haven't had a proper roadster competition since the 60's and now here's our chance to see great cars that aren't little sport compacts like subies and evos or big muscle cars but a new breed of cars that has been lost
>>
>>13899043
Once again, tell me why the Fiat can't have a 2.0L engine.
>>
Also, it would be easier to add more power to already turbocharged engine, than try to squeeze some extra juice from NA one
>>
>>13899059
It could, Alfa just didn't want it to. T

he whole point was to differentiate the Fiat from the Miata. different styling,, different engine, different character. A turbo engine makes it stand apart from its stable mate. And it will be an absolute blast to drive, if not better than the 2L NA Mazda engine
>>
>>13899062
If you seriously think that adding power to an already turbocharged 1.4L is easier than slapping a turbo on a 2.0L engine, all rationality is lost on you.
>>
>>13899059
Because they produce this 1.4L for many and many years and it's been proven as a very good solution on many vehicles. Who would they invent a wheel and increase a final cost for the base model? There should be a special Abarth version for special snowflakes who want to overpay for a completely new engine
>>
>>13899074
All sources online point to the Abarth getting a reworked version of the 1.75L that's in the 4C, so even that won't be completely new
>>
>>13899073
>than slapping a turbo on a 2.0L engine
It's way more expensive and complicated than you think. Especially if we talk about engines that never had turbo versions
>>
>>13898856
Yes, they don't want the FIAT to detract from the MX5 sales.

As emission regulations are getting tougher to meet all the time, the next gen of MX5 will almost definitely have a tarbo.

>Hint: The performance data shown here represents maximum values achievable. The real performance output depends on the serial tolerances of the vehicle.
It literally shows the same gains for every single car model you select.
>>
>>13899281
Are you seriously doubt chip-tuning as a fact?
>>
>>13899204
No. Torque is useless by it's self. That extra torque will make it feel like it has a little more grunt, but it really won't. The Miata just needs to spin a little higher to match it, which it does.

Having a turbo does help for tuning though. Stock, the Miata should be a bit faster due to it's gearing and 100lb weight advantage.
>>
>>13898830
+1,

The miata looked like it had downs, I really dislike under-represented headlights, and Fiat came in to take that market
>>
>>13899345
I think they both look bad, the headlights kill them both for me. Not that the headlights are bad, but they don't match the rest of the body. The Fiat headlights should be on the Mazda and vice versa. Would give them both a much more cohesive look. Right now the Miata has angry headlights and a happy body, and vice versa for the Spider.
>>
>>13899204
Oh, that must be why you see priuses (114hp~ 340torque~) winning races all the time

Oh wait no you dont

>>
>>13899363
That's a fair enough observation, I personally dont mind the headlights on the fiat.

I dont think the miata headlights belong on any car
>>
I hate these tiny sized roadsters. Can someone make one big enough for a v8 right out of the factory?
>>
>>13899382
No because a roadster is a small small engine car and it doesn't need that extra v8 power to be quick because it's so light and small.
>>
>>13899382
F type.
>>
>>13899382
plenty of people have LS swapped Miatas
they are big enough to fit a real engine, Mazda just doesn't make V8s
>>
>>13898947

>confirmed for never owned or driven a turbo sports car

Just get back in your v6 impala and shut up
>>
>>13899305
No, but I doubt those particular bogus numbers. Also cars don't simply magically produce this much more power while retaining their emissions numbers and using less fuel, otherwise they'd come like it from the factory. Either you fuck up your emissions, which means failing inspections in most of Europe, or you put significant additional stress on your stock engine parts increasing wear and chance of failure, or you use more fuel, or a combination of all these.

>>
>>13898856
Those little turbos can make serious power. Hopefully you can interchange parts with the 4C to make a beast.
Plus you know this engine is under stressed, just turn up the boost a bit.

Now, how did fiat manage to pork this car up and by how many pounds?
>>
>>13899548
Same reason they post 1/4 mile times for Camrys and Corollas.
