They're at the point they almost always need some kind of work to make them a decent daily. Took me awhile to get mine to where I wanted. if you wanna pull the heritage card in your bait, the Schassis was originally a cheap starter sports car for the under 28 demographic in japan.
they have always been beater cars for the younger generations and were advertised as such in their "FR Pilot" campaigns to be affordable in the 90's even brand new.
No economy car advert is gonna tell you "drop a gear, then disapear."
Also for the KA24 in the USDM models, the whole reason for doing so was to make insurance for the targeted demographic of teen drivers not be expensive since having a turbo car in the 90's would have caused a spike in rates.
The KA24 was chosen as a compromise as the increased displacement gave more power & torque then NA SR's & CA's
So there's a reason why if you buy a 240 off it's original owner, they're most of the time only in their 30's & 40's

if you dont want more then 300hp, I always say KA-T is the way to go.
But if you want more, then go SR, since the stock bottom end can hold alot more power, & the SR aluminum block handles boost alot better then the iron block of a KA, just based off molecular structure of the different materials.
my end power goals are around 420whp on high boost, so I went SR.
also its been cheaper to get to 300hp on a swapped engine w/ stock internals, just uping the boost and having support mods, rather then rebuilding an NA KA to be turbo.
Only downside is I'm lacking in low end torque compared to a more expensive 300hp KA24-T build

my starter is separately wired off my ignition barrel since I rarely lock my doors, and it makes it so you cant hot wire it, unless you run a new lead to my starter to give it juice
have to hit a priming switch on the passanger side of the center console then use the button on my dash to start since the key is only used for turning on the accessories.
also incase of a bad parking in low income areas, I have spade connectors behind the glovebox from the passanger footwell that i can unplug to kill power & leave a simple thief clueless.
Plus when it's cold out I bring my wheel with me & throw it in my bag like a stancefag so the leather grips aren't freezing as fuck when I go to leave.

Read 100% of that, and loved all of it. I think bringing in your steering wheel to keep it warm temperature is brilliant. My leather wheel is fucking freezing when I first get in, and those things take forever to warm up. I'm genuinely jealous.
Car is finally tuned with the new turbo setup, made 240kw (~320hp) on 21psi. Nice and responsive which was what I was aiming for.. next step is probably going to be a new front bar, wheels rebarreled to a better offset and some new tyres.

Running reliably right now as my DD, fan clutch was sticking so I replaced. Only overheats at the lights once in a blue moon. Not sure whats causing that now but the remedy is still gas gas gas.

Over the weekend I installed my coils, suspension arms, and got an alignment. it handles so much better now that the tail end doesn't feel like it's gonna kick out when taking quick turns. Not to mention how much better it looks compared to the 4in wheel gap I had before.

I rebuilt the KA mls headgasket, arp hardware, added forged internals, stock balanced crank, 1000cc top feed injectors, walbro 255, precision 5031 mated to the jgs log manifold. The picture up a little with the turbo setup and black valve cover is the one in the car.

It was kinda both ya know? It was torn down so I figured while we were in there we'd just upgrade any way, I want a little bigger turbo to break 400whp. If I could break that in the next season or two I would be completely content with the power and start upgrading things to make it safer and handle better.
Albeit it has some suspension work, the interior outside of some cosmetic items is completely stock so that needs some attention.

I'm using an ACT stage 3 clutch, 6-Puck sprung. Which is barely enough lol, it's held no problems all year. I'm kinda reluctant to break 400+ because reliably I'll need a new clutch setup and trans otherwise it becomes a ticking time bomb.

Yeah the stock trans has done beautifully not a single hiccup this year. Had 2 local buddies make 500whp+ on them and barely hold and that's when the trans started to show it's weakness. One friend made 508whp no problem and beat the piss out if the car trans was fine (somehow lol). The other closer to 550whp and the idler gear was worn and tired after 2 seasons of driving (only 2 track events), this friend ended up going the RB25 trans route.
Forgot to add, the Stage 3 is actually very very daily-able pedal feel didn't get much stiffer, engagement is a tiny bit more aggressive but that's it. I really love the clutch.

Swapped out my passanger headlight bucket today, the one I had sagged and was always pointing towards the ground. I also found out my fan control crapped out on me so wired them to always on for the mean time. Damn pos control lasted less than four months.

We got the UK spec 200sx with the CA18 at first, then we only got the SR20 180sx after that changed.

You can get lowered seat rails but they generally mean buying aftermarket seats. I'm 6ft with bride low max's on low rails and I have plenty of room above my head.

Yeah headroom is the smaller problem, the biggest problems is fitting my legs behind and under the steering wheel, so i thought about moving the rails farther away than stock and removing the backseats in combination with a lower seath height.

I'm 6'4", I have about 1in of head room using s14 seats in my s13. Your head will rub but you'll fit.
I find my leg position is comfortable with the seat all the way back. I also have a 330mm deep corn nardi steering wheel which helps a great deal, my knees no longer touch or get in the way of the steering wheel. And yes the steering wheel is height adjustable.
Also as another anon said check the car for rust, mainly in the wheel wells and the "frame rails" of the car.
